FINAL UPDATE

I hope to serve as inspiration to all those with really low stats. I graduated from college in 2010 and I had waaaaayyy too much fun. My attitude back then was to just get by and pass all my classes with C's so I can graduate and go to grad school. I ended up taking 2 years off to gain experience and continue taking classes to raise my GPA. Since I started retaking pre-reqs and finishing up other courses I never got anything below a B (would've been a B+ plus the community colleges don't give out +/- grades lol). My advice to all those in a situation like mine is to keep taking classes and gain as many observation hours in as many different settings. You need to show the schools that you are actively working to become a better student than you were. Also, if waitlisted for an interview, update the admissions director of your progress frequently. Keep faith in yourself and don't give up! You can achieve anything as long as you are driven and keep a positive attitude. 🙂

Thank you!! I have actually been in contact with Karen Hutton-Lopez since 2010. She helped me determine which classes I should retake and which of my unique classes fulfilled their pre-req requirements. After being waitlisted for an interview I only emailed her once a few months after being waitlisted letting her know I'm still very interested in the program and what classes I was taking that semester and how many hours I have accrued in each setting. Hope this helps! Did you get a chance to interview at Western?

bC2 - No, I never heard back from them. They didn't even review my application. 🙁

Congratulation on Rockhurst and thanks I am on the wait list there and was just wondering.

I didn't get the interview 🙁. But my fault, I should've been more on top of it and emailed Karen showing more interest. I would've liked to have gone to Western as its closer to where I live now, but things got busy with admission stuff for USA that I overlooked reaching out to Western 🙁. Congratulations again! Glad you got your first choice! 👍

If i recieved a V: 148 and Q:148 A.W: 3.5 , would anyone recommend I retake? My GPA overall is about a 3.7 and prerequisite GPA is 3.75. Any responses are appreciated. Thank you!

Hahah you just gave me hope!!!!!!!!!!! I have similar stats and this forum can be so depressing, especially when you start looking at cost of the schools that are a little more open to lower GPAs. I'm applying next cycle and I really wanted to go to FGCU because my parents have a condo near there so I wouldn't have to worry about rent, either, on top of cheap tuition! I know FGCU doesn't really look at observation hours or letters of rec and they told me a high GRE could cushion a low GPA.... I got a 630Q and 490V first time around buttt looks like I'll be buying flashcards and a GRE prep book!

Hoosier you werent refering to my stats were you? My GRE is the new revised score.

Haha nope, sorry s402651, I should've been more specific. I was actually referring to fejin757's post. You're one of those lucky ducks with a solid GPA. Regarding your post though... I really suggest emailing each individual program and asking about GRE scores. I emailed a few about GPA stuff and what I could do to pad a mediocre GPA and some programs were really helpful and described the algorithm they use to determine qualified candidates. For example, here is a response from UNF's admissions assistant director...

"I can tell you that our algorithm currently focuses on upper-level (generally the last 60 hours) GPA, prereq GPA, and GRE score. As it stands with two versions of the GRE, we award 0 points for scores less than 1000 on the older version or 297 on the revised version (thought to be the score roughly equivalent to 1000). Those who are at, or above, the minimum GRE score are awarded 1000 points. We currently use weighted factors to multiple the two GPAs I noted to round out the algorithm. Those with less than the 3.00 required GPAs were denied admission this year."

Haha it actually really reminds me of sorority recruitment here... hope that helps give you an idea!

Thank You Hoosier24! that really helps me alot. Being that I am located in the midwest, there may be different standards. I will definately contact the schools and ask about how they weigh each score.

Hi, I found this thread as I was searching for pt info. I have recently decided that I want to attend PT school in fall of 2013. I was wondering if anyone could comment on my stats as I have sort of been out of the "game" for a bit and I am not sure where I stand amongst a pool of applicants. Any other additional information is welcomed as well!

Hi there fellow future PTs (hopefully for me)! I am going to be applying to schools in a couple of months and was hoping to get some advice. So far the schools I am looking at are CSUN, Chapman, Western University of Health Sciences, University of the Pacific, USC, and USA San Marcos. My stats are pretty weak and I've been stressing just thinking about my chances of getting into a school. If anyone can offer me advice about what I can do, such as what schools I should apply to etc. I would greatly appreciate it. I'm taking some pre reqs now (have about 5 left) and am trying to improve my gpa. I retook the GRE (revised) and ended up with about the same scores. I'm thinking about taking it again in a month or two.

Sincerely,

Guy that should of done better in undergrad 🙁

Maybe think about applying earlier and not as close to the deadlines. Some schools have rolling admissions which may help your case. Like end of August maybe?

I'm looking at some of schools you picked. Hey no worries! Keep your head up. Are those UR GPA in the ptcas system?

I have E-Submitted! Now the waiting game begins!

Applied to GVSU, CMU, and OU

Just added stats to signature. The GPA is my calculations. Can post PTCAS when they are calculated.

I have been out of undergrad for a few years and am leaving a career to enter the PT field, so I hope that helps.

Hi all,

I'm curious about what you guys think my chances are of getting into a program. I'm still taking my anatomy and physiology classes so I'm hoping those will bump my grade up to over a 3.0. But will that help? My post BS classes have been all As so far but I'm really worried that schools will just see the pre-req 2.9 and not even look at my application. Thank you all for sharing your experiences, its really been helpful 🙂

Hey all, just thought I would get in on this conversation. Applying to PT schools is stressful, and just all around complicated, so it helps to see where everyone else is in the process. I'm hoping to commission in the Navy after graduation to work with Marine Corps/Navy Active Duty and Veterans.

I think you've got a great shot. Even though the GPA isn't exactly what schools might be looking for, you have an incredible amount of volunteer hours (which shows how committed you are), and better than average GRE stats. In my opinion (from having scoured a ton of these forums for information), you have a pretty good shot. Do you interview well? My hope is that I'll have good enough stats to get an interview, because that's definitely my strongest point.

I don't know about the GREs because I took it before they switched to the new scoring system, but for Emory if you can land an interview, it's a good sign. At that point they know you have the grades and the GRE scores, but want to see what you're like in person. Emory's really big on having people that are social, work well with others, etc... and they pick people that fit the mold that they foster here. If you have any questions about Emory's program, you can PM me.
