This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats! I'm nervously hoping I will get a call soon! May I ask what date WebAdvisor says that your application was complete? Did your status change before you got the call?

I just checked my WebAdvisor, and there was no change in status. I just received a call around 2:00 just to notify me about a acceptance package coming in the mail. I did receive an email on September 4th that my file was complete.

Good luck!

Thanks! I got into Dallas, which I had requested as my first choice.

Congratulations on being accepted at your first choice! You must be walking on air right now.

Some people on here have really high GPA at an institution I've never heard of before. Others have average or lower GPAs at from top ranked universities. Do you think it matters where you go to school? I know a lot of people take courses at community colleges to boost their GPA, which has never seemed fair to me. I've taken a science course at a community college and the difficulty was nothing compared to the courses I have taken at a top university.

From what I've read, it doesn't matter where you took what classes. But ya never know what conversations take place @ an admissions committee meeting. I would imagine that if they had applicant A and applicant B, all other things being equal, if applicant A finished their bachelors and all prerequisites at a major university in 4 years and applicant B took all their hard sciences at a community college and finished their degree in 6 years, the committee might choose applicant A because they consistently took 16+ credits. Just speculating though.

I've been in somewhat close contact with an admissions advisor at one of my prospective schools and in our most recent conversation she said to me outright , "we do look at where you took your prerequisites." I think it has to factor into the equation to some degree, at least for some schools

With that said, I think a 3.8 from a CC beats a 3.2 from a top university any day, but if a school was choosing between two applicants with equal GPAs, one who took their classes at a CC and another at a top university, it sounds like the latter might win. If you take your prereqs at a CC, a great way to dispel any doubts about your abilities is to kill the GRE. While I personally think the GRE is a crappy test, it's standardized and thus your score is safe from subjective opinion.

I've heard some schools' admissions committees will definately take it as a mental note. If a school as a legit science program, and someone is getting B+'s it will look a little differently than someone who Aces everything at the local community college.

Applying: Medical University of South Carolina 2013.
Observation: 450 student intern at PT clinic, 150 outpatient, 100 acute care. Plan to add another 400 by next July

I am applying next July.

My current prereq gpa is 3.9, but I'm going to be retaking a class in the spring to bring it up to a perfect 4.0.

My only major concern is that I have retaken several prereq classes at my community college. My prereq gpa when I graduated was 3.5. My mother was diagnosed with cancer while I was in school. I ended up putting school mostly on the back burner and got a few Bs. She passed away shortly after I graduated. I retook anatomy 2, Bio 2, and Phys 2 and got an A in all of them at the CC.

My fear is the CC classes and the low cumulative gpa.

So far I am just applying to one school because I want to keep in state tuition, but I will add some from the surrounding states soon (Georgia, NC, Tennessee)

Your GRE looks good from where I am standing. I think others would agree. Nice work.

Just wanted to send a quick note to anyone out there discouraged about rejections in past years or nervous about pending applications due to average academic stats. If this is what you want to do, stick with it! Took me more than 2 years, about 16 rejection letters, a hit to my pride in having to retake 2 full semesters each of Chem & Physics, getting my CSCS credentials, a LOT of low paid work and observation as a Rehab tech...and I'm part way through my first semester with a 4.0--and that's with a wife and daughter at home.

You can do it. Work your ***** off to make your application better. Pull yourself up, stop feeling sorry for yourself and make your resume irresistable to the PT admissions committees!

That is all.

Just wanted to offer some encouragement/a kick in the pants.

already completed it Sept 19th (for ED). It was my first exposure to a DPT interview format and I wish I had been told it was a closed portfolio interview(Aka faculty could not judge my knowledge based on GPA/GRE/Observation experience). I assumed it was more a character interview and was apparently far to vague with my statistics/facts. I was told I would most likely have another shot and hopefully will be interviewed by a more approachable selection of the faculty now knowing what they are looking for in an applicant.

Very comforting to hear that someone did well when they're backs against the wall. My only concern is that I did not know exactly what I wanted to do until it was too late. Hence, my grades were not so good during Undergrad. However, I am working on my Master's but applying to PT school whether or not I finish my MS degree. I was wondering if it is all worth the extra year of retaking science courses and what not to ultimately get in to PT school. This is something I've always wanted to do and I know my grades don't reflect that well, but action speaks louder than words.

Best of luck to everyone!

You're stats look awesome! What was the interview process for Belmont like? I'm always curious as to how each institution differs. I'm hoping for Duke or MUSC :xf:

Thanks! I'm sure yours are great as well. I am really hoping to hear (good news, hopefully) from Duke soon. It sounds like people started hearing about interviews around this time last year. Belmont's interview process was pretty standard: one on one with a faculty member, during which they asked about 5 questions. Then we toured facilities most of the time.
Best of luck to you! If you ever want to chat more about the process you can PM me!
