Hey!! Congrats on your acceptance to St Augustine!!! I actually have similar GPA stats (overall 3.25, pre-req: 3.0). I was wondering if you could tell me when you applied and heard back? I'm in the application phase now, just waiting for those reference sheets the recommenders had to fill out.

Thank you SO much for your help, maybe I'll see you soon at school :p

Hey congrats on getting in! One question, I thought their minimum requirement to apply for the pre-reqs was a 3.5?

I believe it's actually a 3.0, but I know St. Augustine looks at general grade trend as well, which is what served me well. They also interview and look at the whole person instead of just grades, so it worked in my favor that I had some experience in the workforce for a while and had really decided upon what I wanted to do. Let me know if you have other questions. :)

After applying 3 times after my undergrad, I finally got accepted in my 2nd choice school. The 6 month waitlist period was arduous and I had so many doubts in my mind if I was even cut out for PT. I did not have the most competitive GPA or GRE scores and I really thought I would have to endure another year of re-applying. I'm so happy that all these years have paid off. I worked with amazing therapists who instilled in me as much knowledge as they could regarding PT. They have encouraged me and told me over and over that this is the field where I belong. I definitely would not have been a competitive candidate if I hadn't immersed myself in this field through different settings. I feel blessed to have gotten a position at one of the top 10 health systems in the nation and not only did I learn a tremendous amount, but I also realized how much I truly want this. For anyone who is still waitlisted or did not get in to any program, you just have to keep trying and persevere if you really want this. I had to tell myself anytime I was rejected that things happened for a reason, but I always thought this was just a way to cope. Now I feel more prepared than ever and that saying has much more meaning. Congrats to all who have gotten accepted to their respective schools and I can't wait to get started!

Activities: Volunteered in an ESL program for 1 academic year, varsity cheer-leading, teaching assistant for gen chem, lab assistant for gen/organic chem, member and alumni relations/vice-president of sorority, intramural flag football, Dance marathon (fundraiser for children's hospital), relay for life.

Am studying hard for GREs

Am applying to: UofM, GVSU, CMU, Wayne State, Oakland, Andrews, and trying to decide which out of state schools to apply to, given my stats.

Any advice?

-Also, should I put that I was involved within a sorority, because of the stigma associated with it. I had two large positions within that sorority but I'm not sure if mentioning I was in a sorority would hurt my chances of acceptance.

my 2 cents:

I would put it down. I also was in a sorority, with 2 key positions! I put it on my application and had no problem getting accepted to really strong programs.

In an interview, one school asked me how my sorority influenced my undergrad experience. I just talked about how it gave me a support system, an opportunity to do community service, leadership experience, and of course, the chance to unwind now and then. I mentioned my roles specifically and it gave great talking points about my interests and passions.

Not everyone loves sororities so I didn't make a BIG issue of it. But because my leadership positions were so significant, I refused to leave it off because of silly stigmas.

Hope that helps!

Hello benchmadebali,
You got interviewed from USA? If your interview was in July, what semester did you apply for: summer, fall or spring? Did you get accepted to USA also after the interview? I've heard from a few people: some people with gpa even 2.7, 2.8 and 2.9 got accepted.

What exactly do yall mean by upper div GPA, which level of classes would that take careof?

i am a junior/senior and really nervous because my fresh yr messed me up and my last semester totally did not make me happy, i will post my stats in a couple of days but i am just worried.

Just curious. Are people posting their Pre-req GPA based on all prerequisites or just the sciences?

I was wondering that also....but my core science gpa (Bio 1&2, A&P 1&2, Physics 1&2, Chem 1&2) is a 3.00. My pre-reqs range from 2.98 to 3.31 depending on the school.

Hi, I have been following this forum for some time and I finally decided to join. I just finished my undergraduate degree and I am applying to PT school. I hope some of you can help me out with my issue: I graduated high school in 2002 and went to University of Texas for undergrad. From 2002 - 2006, I completely messed around, took advantage of my parents trust, money and pretty much destroyed my opportunity at the university. I pulled out of Austin in my last semester and moved to Houston. Within the past four years, I know I have gotten back on the right track but I am worried about my GPA from Austin. Here are some of my numbers, I would love some advice on how to present my self to the schools I am applying to ( I am going early to introduce myself and explain my transcript).

2002-2006 : University of Texas GPA < 2.0 (Absolutely horrid)
2006-2009 : University of Houston at Clear Lake B.S. Fitness and Human Performance GPA 3.5
1000+ Inpatient Hours at Clear Lake Rehabilitation Hospital (currently employed)
250+ Outpatient hours at Clear Lake Rehab
300 + Geriatric Setting - Nifty after Fifty (currently employed)
GRE Math 680 Verbal 440 Analytical 3.5

Applying to: UTMB, Texas State, UT Health Science Center San Antonio, and TWU

Do I have any chance?

Well I just took my first GRE test and didn't do so well. I received a 650 on math but only a 370 on verbal. I plan on taking it again in September. Any advise on studying? And with a GPA of 3.45 and over 200 clinical hours both in patient and out patient what are my chances of getting into a PT school?

I haven't applied anywhere yet, because aforementioned, I figured this is what I wanted to do late. I haven't completed PTCAS yet but was wondering what's a good deadline to try and get it completed? Plus I am not definitely sure if some of these schools have supplemental information. Should I submit PTCAS before all the information is filled out? (LORs, Observation hours still in progress). My adviser here doesn't know squat and I'm afraid I'm going to miss deadlines or miss getting into schools. Any suggestions?!? Thanks! And good luck!

Last year, I submitted my PTCAS application asap (early sept I believe). I still had to finish the gre, observation hours, take some pre-req's, and still had to get some LOR's submitted. All of those things PTCAS allows you to submit even after you've done your original application. It's good to get it done with for several reasons: It takes forever to do b/c you fill in every single class manually (unless it has changed) and have the standard essay to write among other things, for rolling admissions, your app. will be on their desk at very least, and once you've submitted it, PTCAS will send out constant email updates on deadlines for every school on their list, which was a very helpful reminder. Also, for me it was good to get it out of the way before the fall semester was in full swing, because there is a lot of things to get done, including supplemental apps to schools (btw- PTCAS lists whether the schools want these and extra fees on their site). Besides needing more hours, you look like a really strong candidate. Keep it up, and best of luck to you!

Hey. You can double check on the PTCAS website, but I believe CSU LB, CSU F, and CSU N do not offer a DPT, only a Masters degree.

Irrelevant for those applying to Cal State MPT programs in the immediate future, but they likely will be transitioning to DPT degree offering programs. Just an FYI......

California PT Notes
An electronic memo produced by the California Physical Therapy Association
Mark your calendar for the 2010 CPTA Annual Conference October 1-2 in Oakland

AB 2382 California State Universities Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Professional Degree passed out of the California State Legislature with almost unanimous support. Last stop is the Governor's desk.

AB 2382 creates an exception to the Master Plan for Higher Education to allow California State Universities to confer the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) professional degree. The is needed to comply with a mandate from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), which requires that all U.S. physical therapist education programs be approved to offer the DPT degree by December of 2015. Failure to award the DPT will result in non-accreditation of the CSU physical therapist education programs.

You have way more hours than most programs require, and probably more than the average person who posts on this forum.
Your GPA and GRE's are very high.
There is no reason to doubt that you will get in to most if not all of the programs to which you apply.

I'm hoping the admissions committees will see my dedication as an older student! :xf: best of luck to everyone in the admissions process.

I'm in the same boat as you! I graduated in 2007 with a BS in Marketing. I've held a couple of jobs since then, but I always wanted to do PT, I just...didn't. I just started my first semester of pre-reqs at Marymount. I know someone in the DPT program at Marymount who majored in Dance in NY, owned a dance studio for a couple of years and then spent 4 years doing her pre-reqs at a community college. She's turning 30 at the end of the year and is in her second year of the program. She told me not to worry (she has people in her class who are in their 40s, as well)...as long as you are on the right path it doesn't matter that you are an "older" student!!! :)
