I wasn't even wait listed lol. They don't give any preference to in-state students. I think my GRE really hurt me and killed my chances of getting in. They claim to be competitive obviously haha. Good luck when applying, get those hours and own the GRE.

I would call Duke and speak with Anita Aiken about the status of your application. If you call them, they are really good about returning calls and giving updates.

Tennis, looks like I will be joining you @Stonybrook!!!!! Just got my acceptance!! I'm crying right now that's how unbelievably happy I am 😀👍

Hey everyone, I've been using this resource for about a year now, and it's SOO helpful with things like questions I had about applying to schools, what people think about each program, and general PT topics. I'm finally posting b/c I've been accepted to one school so far, but I'm not sure about this limited time offer (14 days) since I'm still interviewing at other school and won't find out those results until end of march at the earliest. Does anyone know if these are set in stone?? Or is it like a nonrefundable deposit to save my seat, but I can still change my mind later?

TIA for any responses!!

I guess I should post some stats since I enjoy reading everyone else's!

When they take the deposit money from you it means you are guaranteed a spot in that program and you have two weeks to get back to them. If you decide to go to another school later, you lose that money and on top of that have to pay the deposit money for the school you now have decided to go to. It's how PT programs get their money by telling you you've been accepted at different times. The first school that accepted me I paid their deposit because I didn't know if I was going to get into any other PT program a 'safety' school if you will. Then I month later my #1 choice said I was accepted so I have to pay that deposit too. The money I put down for the 1st school is long gone.

I put 1000 down to hold a spot but my letter said 90% is refundable w/ a written request. I guess this is not typical.

You could also try asking for an extension. I did this with Northeastern because it was a "safety" and I was still waiting to hear back from 2 other schools. Luckily, they gave me about 3 extra weeks to submit my deposit and in that time I ended up being accepted to my first choice. So it doesn't hurt to ask, rather than potentially waste the money. However, if they don't offer you an extension, it's definitely better to be safe and just pay it.

I finally got an acceptance!!! 😀 So I can finally post in here:

Hi everyone!

I've never really posted on here before but I'm at the end of my application journey and decided to share info about the schools I applied to now that I've finally been accepted to Stony Brook. I hope this helps, especially for people waiting on some word from schools. I know Downstate only got back to me now and it was making it anxious. For anyone that applied there, I guess maybe they've got a round of interviews going on now. Anyway, can't wait to meet all the others who have been accepted to Stony Brook! 😀

Thanks for everyone's responses! Apparently, for Stony Brook you don't have to pay a deposit, or at least that's what I've heard so far. I have about a week and half left to accept, and I think I might just bite the bullet. I do think they have a good program and I really liked it there, it's just so different from undergrad when we got to decide after we got ALL responses back. It seems silly to decide on one school when I just had 2 other interviews this week!

Congrats neophyte! Is SBU stony brook??

Not related to Stony, how did you find your interview at Mercy?

I didn't realize it was going to be a group interview and I had never done one before. But there was just 3 of us with 2 faculty members. We answered 6 questions, changing up the order of who had to answer first. Then we had 5 min. to do a "group question". I think it was mainly to see how we could work with others. They were very welcoming though and I really like the people in my group so it wasn't too painful!

Cool, do you think you will attend if you get in?

I'm not really sure at this point what format would be best. I want to work so I can be making money but idk if a weekend program may be too weird. I also need to look at finances again to compare the schools

Well, you wouldn't know until March with Mercy and SB would need to know sooner, so I guess you will have to make a decision quickly. SB is a better program, but Mercy has its + as well. Interviewed with Mercy too, but not sure.
