Be yourself, the faculty at Loma Linda University are absolutely incredible. They will ask you the general questions such as why pt, why LLU, what is the difference between pt and pta, they might throw in some critical thinking questions (at least they did for me), ect. Good luck to you!

@ashnicolee43 is one of the other two schools you are waiting to hear from your top choice?

And I have to say I'm kinda surprised that GRE score didn't hold you back. Midwestern must either not weight it as heavily or they really liked you in the interview. 🙂

USF was my top choice but after further research I'm not so sure anymore. I will fully decide after I hear from them in February. USF doesn't require the GRE so that won't affect me there.
And I know. I figured that would hurt me but I don't think they weigh them as heavily. I'm pretty sure that's why I got rejected for NSU. And yes, I think the interview helped as well.

Nice. Is the price of USF a lot less that Midwestern for you? I guess it depends if you are a Florida resident.

@knj27 It is less than Midwestern which is nice. However, after I researched further they did not have a good graduation rate for last year. I looked into it on SDN and it seems like they have their first year DPT students in with the med school students taking organic chemistry and such. Which is not only unnecessary but they were saying that it sets them a year behind DPT students at other schools. Also, many students aren't doing well and dropping out. I'll definitely do further research if it comes down to it and I get accepted to both programs.

You're right about their curriculum looking pretty weird for a DPT program. Especially medicinal biochemistry and GI, Renal and reproductive physiology during first year. While I think those would be really interesting classes, I can't say I have seen those in a PT school curriculum before.
http://health.usf.edu/medicine/dpt/education/~/media/8A377F6E73D3463693DA98D8884EE6BD.ashx

And it doesn't look like their NPTE pass rate (which I assume is overall not first-time) is that bad but there have definitely been a lot of dropouts as of late:
http://health.usf.edu/medicine/dpt/accreditation.htm

Realize though that whether or not you drop out is mostly on you not the school, and accreditation standards mean that every PT school teaches roughly the same things, it may just be arranged differently.

If FSU is just a bit cheaper than Midwestern then maybe I'd go to Midwestern. But if it is a lot cheaper (like if it's $40 or $50k cheaper or something) I think you'd be silly not to go there if you got in.

Just my unsolicited $0.02. 😀

If you're pre-req GPA is good (like >3.6) then I don't think you are going to have a hard time getting multiple acceptances if you applied to a lot of schools (how many did you apply to??). Your GRE is above average overall and your verbal is well above average, and your 3.3 undergrad GPA is not even close to the most abominable GPA that has gotten someone into PT school. And that 3.3 doesn't really matter. What is your actual cumulative GPA (every college class you have ever taken in your life). I imagine it's at least a 3.4 or 3.5 if you did well as a post-bacc, which is a totally acceptable GPA for many PT schools, especially considering your overall stats.

Did you apply to Nova Southeastern Fort Lauderdale?

Did you apply to Nova Southeastern Fort Lauderdale?

Nope, I didn't. After taking a look at their class format I decided it wasn't the way that I, personally, learn. Props to people who are that self-motivated!

And I've applied to ten schools so far and am looking at a few more before their February/March deadlines.

What is your pre-req GPA and your final cumulative GPA as calculated by PTCAS?

Like I said a few posts ago, as long as your cGPA has moved up a couple of ticks from that 3.3 and your pre-req GPA is >3.6, I seriously doubt you need to apply to more schools. Most people with your stats will get 2 or 3 acceptances applying to 10 schools, depending on how competitive the schools are of course.

my prereq GPA is a 3.6. my overall GPA with retakes is a 3.4.

it's less like i feel like i HAVE to apply to more schools and more like i'm stressing about tweaking my supplemental essays and allowing for a little more time shadowing.

i'm sure i'm not the only nontraditional applicant who is pulling gray hairs out daily and mentally screaming, AHHHHH I'M 30 AND I JUST WANT TO BE IN SCHOOL AND LEARNING AND NOT WORRYING ANYMORE!

I definitely hear ya but I really do think that if you have applied to 10 schools already you are going to get in somewhere. If you don't by some chance it would be because your app had some kind of red flag or something, not because you didn't apply to enough schools.

But if you don't mind spending the time and money to submit more apps then by all means do so...if it helps reduce your anxiety then I guess that's a good thing lol 🙂

Do you plan to defer your application to UNF since you have acceptances or no?

UPDATE - a couple more interviews!

University: University of Florida
Major: Industrial & Systems Engineering (graduated in 2007, this is a career change for me!)
PTCAS Overall GPA: 3.28
PTCAS Pre-Req GPA: 3.75
Post-bacc GPA: 4.0
GRE: 161 V / 162 Q / 5.0 AW

Extra-Curric: I'm non-trad, so I agree that there's not a ton of extra time with a full-time job, taking pre-reqs, and getting in observation hours. I'm on the board of a non-profit that works with orphanages in Haiti, and I've also done some occasional volunteering with Special Olympics

Volunteer: Right now, I have about 60 Outpatient, and about 10 Inpatient. That should continue to grow, and I'm hoping to have at least 100 by the time I apply, and even more after that.

My GPA is on the lower side, but all of my lower grades were in specialized engineering classes (helloooo Thermodynamics!) so hopefully they won't have as much of an impact on my chances of getting into PT schools.

Applying: Nova Southeastern, Miami, Maryland, GWU, Marymount, and Arcadia. Hopefully that casts a wide enough net and I'll get into one of them!

Interview: Maryland Baltimore (11/5) Marymount (1/24) George Washington (1/16)

Acceptance: Maryland Baltimore (!!!!!)

Still waiting to hear back from a couple others before making my final decision, but I am THRILLED to have been accepted at UMB!

University: UW-Milwaukee

Volunteer: 400 hours-Outpatient clinic, 24 hours-In patient clinic, Observed Dry-Needling, Graston Technique, and Concussion Specialist.

Applying: Southwest Baptist University

Acceptances: Southwest Baptist University

Rejections: N/A

Interviews: N/A

You guys, keep up the work... You can get in! I know you all can do it. God Bless you, any questions (non-religious or religious, I am here to help)

I just found out today that I am also accepted to SBU! What a relief. Congratulations!

UPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS UPDATE!

Major: dance performance (bunhead through and through!)
PTCAS Overall gpa: 3.97
PTCAS prereq gpa: 4.00
GRE: 164 verbal, 159 quantitative, 4.0 written

Extra curric: working as a massage therapist and rigorously perusing prereq coursework has not left much extra time for extra activities, but I've been an anatomy TA and a cadaver lab TA

Observation: ~70 hrs in inpatient, outpatient, school, home health, and sub-acute settings

Applying: Regis and a University of Colorado

Interviews: UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO! REGIS!

Breathing a big sigh of relief that I've been offered interviews at the only 2 schools I applied to! Now on to prep for the interviews 🙂
