re: Drexel

fwiw, I completed all pre-reqs at my CC and Drexel offered $42.5K scholarship.
don't let CC pre-reqs stop you from applying.

Congrats! What's your preferred school if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks!

I am still very much figuring out my preference since I got rejected from the UofU which was my top choice. Of the schools I've been accepted to, I'll most likely attend RMUoHP (good location+good curriculum structure for me+my husband already has a good job in the area). I really like EWU and UNLV and so I'm spending the week crunching numbers and seeing if there are equivalently good jobs for my husband in Spokane or Las Vegas.

Assuming I don't become a trust fund kid before I start PT school, at the end of the day money will likely be the deciding factor in what school I attend as much as I wish I could make the decision based on academics, opportunities, and culture alone.

lol, yup! Maybe my fellow recovering lawyers bury the "JD" once they get their new degrees 🙂

 :smack:

I definitely respect your commitment for going back to school for a second doctorate degree...you must really want to be a PT 👍

Just noticed that this thread got its 1 millionth view today. It averages out to one view every 4 minutes on a nonstop basis for 7.5 years... :wow:

Of course in recent years as the thread has gained popularity, the view rate has been substantially faster than that. For the past few months that I've been noticing it, this thread has been being viewed a couple thousand times per day.

Not sure if there are any other threads on SDN with a million views...if there are I haven't ever seen them. Just goes to show the potential utility of this thread for all current and future pre-PT students. Having this quantity of searchable data available in one place is a huge asset to the interested applicant. Way to go pre-PT forum. :horns:

Rejections: None yet...

Still waiting to hear from Duke (they sent an email saying I was still being considered for admission), UW, and Vermont. But I'm just glad I got in somewhere. Although I'm having a really hard time deciding between the three. They are all great programs, but tuition and cost of living varies quite a bit. If anyone has any insight on these schools or knows a good way to choose I'm all ears. I tried making an excel spreadsheet with all the different parameters and I'm no closer to deciding. I'd really like to go to UW, but it's really expensive like Columbia.

Has anyone here recently had an interview with FIU? I am looking for any insight. This is my first interview and I am ridiculously nervous. Thank You

I alway thought the hard part was getting into PT school... that is only the beginning. As I finish up my first year a PT student I am shock at how much work it is. Its been an awesome yet challenging year! Congrats to all those who have been accepted, good luck to all those who have to try again. If you are interested here is my blog: www.creatingapt.com It just has a little info about my experiences thus far in PT school.

In retrospect, I regret applying to so many schools. I had to decline so many interviews because of time constraints/conflicting interview dates and eventually just wasted a lot of time and money in applications.

👍 👍

I agree. As far as I can tell, an average to slightly above average applicant needs to apply to ~4 well researched and well selected school to be confident in getting 1 acceptance. At least for now. Maybe in future years as competition continues to go up it will be more like ~6. But there is almost never a need to apply to >10. If you are applying to a double digit number of schools you probably need to do your homework and pare the list down to the schools at which you are most likely to be a strong candidate. Even candidates with weak stats will pretty much always get 1 or more acceptances by applying to 7 or 8 extremely well targeted school.

(BTW @boopy, my preaching is not directed at you specifically, I'm just elaborating on what you've said for the record in the hopes of saving future applicants some $$$. 🙂 This is something I and others have wrote about a lot lately and as more and more acceptances roll in this cycle I'm seeing more and more posters with firsthand experience that corroborates the theory that it is better to apply to 4-8 (depending on the strength of your stats) laser-targeted schools than to spend thousands of dollars sending your application out to 13+ schools all over the country).

As much as I would like to agree to this, @knj27, because it does make sense, it's difficult to put into action. I believe that those with lower than average stats, fear the notion of rejections because of the large number of well-qualified applicants other than ourselves. In hindsight, yes most of us regret applying to so many schools once you gain a number of acceptances. However, it's difficult (well in my case) to be confident enough to say that I have a good shot at just these 4-6 well researched, thought-out schools that you applied to. The fear of rejection from all applied schools and having to repeat the process again is truly terrifying. So most of us (or a few of us) take the chance to apply to more schools than one should to increase the percentage chance of getting into at least one school. This is just another perspective from one applicant to another, sharing my experience and opinion for the benefit of future applicants. That's just my two cents...

*Disclaimer* Knj this wasn't to refute your previous statement but merely to give the perspective from another point of view. Hopefully, this will give others a different insight on the application process. I always appreciate your input and opinion on this forum, by the way. 😀

I am really hopeful of getting in to at least one program this round of applications. I think I have a decent shot as my interviews went really well and I know most schools have already rejected a number of people, which I have survived.

If anyone has had any communication, experience, or has any insight into where any of these programs are at in the admissions process, I would really appreciate any/all information.

Thanks, and good luck to everyone!

I definitely see your perspective. It seems logical that if you apply to 20 schools you would be more likely to get in than if you apply to 4. But I'm pretty sure I have yet to see an applicant with at least decent stats who applied to >10 schools at which they were fully eligible who didn't get at least 2 acceptances. Many times I think failure to get accepted is due just as much to applying at the wrong schools as it is due to having a weak app.

For people with low stats 7-8 schools seems to be a good number to recommend. I think what happens is you hit a point where if you apply to 8 schools and don't get in anywhere, there is probably a red flag on your application and applying to more schools isn't gonna solve your problem, or at least your chances of acceptance aren't going to increase proportionally to how many schools your adding. Again, this is just a theory to work based off of...I accept no liability for anyone's application success or lack thereof... 🙂

As an aside, it seems to me like the most damning red flag is low pre-req GPA, at least from my perception having read a lot on this forum.

Thank you for providing a counter-perspective. By no means do I want to imply that my theoretical meanderings on this subject are the end all be all or that they are the right answer for everyone.

I know I've been reposting this thread a lot, but this is one of the best ones we've had on this subject: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/my-experience-in-applying-to-dpt-programs.1115591/. There have been several other good ones as well as a couple that have included links to blog posts on the subject that I've liked as well.

UCONN started sending out acceptances back in December, and since they're class size is only 28 I would guess they are close to being filled by now

I've got an interview at GFU that same day. I would be interested to hear what you think of GFU compared to the other programs you applied to or got accepted into. Not sure if a new program would be a good thing or annoying.

I've been lurking on this forum for a long time now and can't believe how supportive and informative everyone here is. If y'all are my future colleagues, then I have no doubt the PT field has a bright future.

In retrospect, I regret applying to so many schools. I had to decline so many interviews because of time constraints/conflicting interview dates and eventually just wasted a lot of time and money in applications.

Hi, future classmate! I actually interviewed on the same day as you - can't wait for August! It feels so far away still, but I'm sure the next few months will fly by. Where are you coming from?

Talk to Cynthia, the admissions coordinator. She told me the program coordinator was out of state on conference. Cynthia also notified me that my check, etc came in.
Heard from Cynthia - thanks for the tip!

@jy88 @Ibby33 It's so nice to be able to talk to my future classmates. I'm coming from the suburbs of NY. If y'all wanna talk or meet up if you're in the area, then DM me! Just so we don't clutter up this thread 🙂

I was one of those applicants with low stats due to goofing off in school 20 years ago. My overall was around a 3.15, but my pgpa was a 3.8 and my last 60 hours was a 3.9. Anyway, I applied to 12 schools and ended up getting interview offers at 5 of them. I ended up getting accepted early in the process and only ended up attending one interview. Plus there are still a couple schools I haven't heard from yet. Looking back, I wish I had not applied to so many. I also firmly believe that pre-req GPA is the most important. Mine was high. That and my last 60 hours were the only highlights of my application. I didn't study for the GRE. I just winged it and ended up with a very average V153 Q145 AW4.0. I had an outstanding essay also, but you have to get the ADCOM to look at your application or that wonderfully entertaining story of your life ends up at the local dump🙂
