You have an awesome application! I was also waitlisted at TSU. I'm interviewing at UTHSC next month. How did the interview process go? Which program are you leaning towards?

I did a tour first and the current students were very sweet. The interviews were running behind because the faculty really takes their time to get to know each student. I was in the conference room for the interview for an hour and a half (I was the last time slot) and they were very kind and laid-back. It felt much more relaxed than the TSU interview. I am leaning towards Memphis rather than UTC. UTHSC also does a good job of looking at your whole application and interview rather than interview heavy like TSU is. The interview is not intimidating. Good luck!!!

Congrats!!!! How did you hear from St Kate’s 🙂

Hello! I thought that the University of Utah was not sending out notifications until mid-March? Congratulations on taking the next step in becoming an OT!

So, you were accepted at Pacific? I thought they were not doing notifications until after the second round of interviews?
Yes. I was a little in shock when I got the call, but I think he mentioned they were just notifying a handful of applicants of scholarship offers.

Thank you!! I just received an acceptance email a couple days ago on March 9th, so I bet more are coming next week!

I know a few people heard from Davenport University - but has anyone else? I haven't heard from them and I hope they do waves of acceptances! I am hoping to get into a Michigan school so I don't have to move too far! I also applied to Western Michigan University - hoping to hear from them soon!

I have not heard anything either. I did email and they said there was still offering acceptances.

Hello I am having a hard time deciding between NYU, Columbia, and BU too! I was wondering if you applied to the Master's or Doctorate programs at these schools, and did you take Columbia out of the mix because of cost? I am sure any choice you make will be the right one!

Congrats on getting into those programs too!

So I applied to the OTD programs at BU and NYU (MS/OTD) and then the master's at Tufts and Columbia. I took Columbia out of the mix because it was by far the most expensive program after taking into the scholarships/fellowships I was offered at the other programs. Also, when taking into account my preferences for location, curriculum, research, and student-teacher dynamic, the extra costs didnt seem worth it.

Its still an extremely tough decision. Since I live abroad, I havent been able to visit the campuses, so I am only going off the website and information from current students/faculty. I think I am leaning more to Tufts at this moment because it is the cheapest, has a great curriculum for me, and the faculty appears super flexible in making sure students get what they want out of the program. If later on, I want an OTD, I can do that AND I wont have lost any money.

But also, the research and fieldwork at BU seem really great 😵

What are your thoughts?

You really limit yourself to the schools you can apply to because most want the GRE score. So I would actually recommend taking it once. Even if they are average, your cumulative and prerequisite GPA will make up for it. I would also recommend getting observation hours in different settings such as an inpatient, skilled nursing facility or pediatrics setting.

yeah, as i was researching schoools a lot of them required the gre. so i might try to take an online prep class before hand and try to take it during the summer if possible. i've been meaning to try to move to inpatient, and i work in a martial arts studio working with ppl of all ages, but a lot of kids as well. so im hoping that helps.

Myself and a few other applicants that I know used the Kaplan study book and that seemed very helpful. There is also study apps that I used as well. You definitely want more diversity in your observations hours and try to do recurrent shadowing with an OT you like to hopefully get them to be a reference for you.

I was thinking the same thing with getting my doctorate in the future! I appreciate all the information you provided because it is a big decision. I did not apply to Tufts, but I heard they have a great program! Thanks again!

When did you hear from UTHSC? I applied several months ago and have never heard back from them at all. I figured I would at least get some kind of denial or something at the least. I got accepted to UTC so I will likely go there, but I'm just a little salty that UTHSC has never contacted me with an update?

anyone here get granted acceptance or has attended AIC?

Also, is there anyone admitted to Carroll that is giving up their spot? I was waitlisted and wanted to know what kind of movement they're seeing from the waitlist.

Yes, i just enrolled with kaplan my base score with the practice exam was Q: 145 V: 145 so I'm hopeful. im trying to get into other inpatient departments now, but as i was talking to someone at Samuel Merritt involved in admissions, they look at the number of hours and the institution more than they do the variance in hours. i was wondering if this was the case for other programs as well. Does anybody have reccomendations for programs based on your experience?

When will you be deciding on Carroll or Milwaukee? And when you do can you let me know?

I will be deciding within the next week or so. I'm in the process of applying for an assistantship through Carroll so if I get an interview for that position I will consider attending. However, I am leaning toward Milwaukee at the moment.

Where did you find an application or information about an assistanship for Carroll???? I didnt hear anything about those from when I went to the open house and don't really see anything online about it.

I visited with Cindy before being accepted into the program and she let me know that graduate assistantships, or 'fellowships', were available but were extremely limited. I emailed her after receiving my acceptance to let her know that I was interested in pursuing the opportunity, and I've since been put in contact with other individuals and have filled out an application. I would email Cindy to let her know and see if you can still apply!
