I was recently accepted to an MD program starting in the fall. I am currently enrolled in a Master's of Pharmacology program at the University of Cincinnati's COM and want to take the most pertinent and beneficial elective that I can. I have never taken an immunology or histology course and thought those would offer the most benefit. I've taken Endocrinology, A&P I & A&P II (gross), Biochem I & II, Developmental Bio, Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Bio (grad level), and pharmacology courses with my masters program. Would you take Histology, Immunology, or some other course not listed? Thank you in advance!

Take whichever one interests you the most, however Pharmacology will have a different perspective than medical school. I would personally do the Immunology or histology class as that can have wide applications throughout a systems based education in medical school, however the master in pharmacology program overall will not benefit you a whole lot within medical school itself being that the perspective will be from the pharmaceutical side as opposed to the medicine side.

I have to take an elective as part of the program and I’m halfway through, so I was mainly asking which course would be the most beneficial. From the friends in med school right now it seems immunology would be preferential over the histology.

Then go for Immunology! it s a fun and exciting class (At least in undergrad)

Histology is a fundamental class that will give you a fundamental knowledge of all the various parts of the body like the cardiovascular system, nervous system, lymphatics, bones, cells, etc. It's an excellent building block class to get the fundamental knowledge, where when you go more in depth in the above entities in med school, you would have seen it in histology already. As you probably know, its much easier to learn things when you've seen the terms before, which would help you in future med school classes after you've taken histology.
