Harvard decision received today

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I heard a rumor, not just with Harvard, but with most med schools, that they actually call you earlier on if you've been admitted and that the people still waiting for letters now will probably be rejected/waitlisted. Cuz I have have a friend who was admitted to HMS quite a while before all this harvard hoopla was posted. Is this true?

To the OP, I know this must be disappointing but don't be bummed out for too long. Don't you agree that, no matter what happens, everything will end up just fine?

Who's this friend of yours? Sure, some med schools call, but that sounds like a serious crock of ****e - if anyone has already gotten into HMS, I honestly believe this forum would know about it.

haha, hacking to get your status is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard.

you guys are nuts.

Well, we'll know in a day or so. Thanks for the input! 👎

I've been accepted to 7 schools. I was only called by one of those schools to learn of my acceptance and I was told that they would call during my interview anyway.

Plus, I feel that the current HMS students on this form (or the people that hosted many of us) would have told us about a phone call if they called accepted applicants first.

So is everyone here going to Harvard if accepted? Are any of you likely to turn them down?

I don't think they are my first choice but who knows how I'll feel if I get in.

Guys, admitted students didn't get access to mycourses until 1-2 days before starting school in the fall. it lets you access all of HMS's online library resources so its not something they just throw around. I wouldn't count on anyone, admitted, waitlist or otherwise, gaining access until the fall.

last year, some people were worried about HBS scandal and how that related to the financial aid pages. the bottom line was the financial aid page was readily available and easy to get to from the hms admissions page. at the time, none of us really knew if being able to log in meant anything. it was only in retrospect that we knew what it meant. it was a mistake on the school's part and it was not hacking nor do I feel ethically questionable. no one told prospective students to stay away from the site at any point in the process and many schools have students apply for fin aid before decisions come out so its perfectly reasonable that some folks logged in.

not necessarily in my case, although i think my chances of getting in are slim, so this is all moot (i had one of my worst interviews there)

i prefer nyc to boston and had a bad first impression of harvard during my interview day. if one of the top nyc schools has a sig. better financial aid package for me and i were to still get a bad vibe from harvard during revisit, then i would take one the nyc schools.

anyone else willing to share what it would take to say no to harvard?

It's noon and no one else on this forum has received anything yet? Why would they just send out a few rejections on Friday and wait until today to send the rest, just to play with our heads?

I swear walking back from class my blood pressure goes up at the sight of a mail truck or a postal employee walking by. Harvard is not my indisputable top choice, because I have a few good funded MSTP offers, but still... Harvard is Harvard and straight MD no funding would be hard to turn down.

I have 3 top choices, and if i get into one, I'd go there. If i get into two, I will have to carefully reconsider each. Harvard certainly doesn't trump the others, in my mind.

Also, if I got significant financial aid from another school, it jumps in my mental list. There are a few schools that I would consider choosing with money over harvard without, for sure.

I believe they have about a 70% matriculation rate compared to 40-50% of most other schools. The big H is distinct in this regard.

Just got the letter. Rejection. 🙁

Good luck guys. May your letters bear better news.

Sorry to hear that DrCarebear. I was just wondering where you are located.

Thanks.

Good luck to everyone!

Man, it's wierd and kind of sad to see all of you who I spent the last year dreaming about Harvard with and trading stories, anxieties, etc, getting shot down like this.

I hope you all end up somewhere you love.

I hope my mailman...

Sorry, DrCarebear 🙁

Nothing here in the mail today in Upstate NY...

Damn! Being in CA, I was hoping I wouldn't have to start worrying about Harvard until Wednesday...but nooo...someone thought it would be fun to throw some rejections out into the mail a bit early.

...Man I'd have some words with that guy... :meanie:

Rejection sent 3/10: west coast

Noooo...not what I want to hear!!! My productivity for the rest of the day at work has now been forced to zero. :scared:

If Harvard did decide to mail rejections on 3/10 and wait until 3/13 to mail acceptances, I think that is the most humane way to do it. That way, if you are getting bad news, at least it comes swiftly. Compare this with Duke's strategy last week of sending acceptances first, followed by rejections and waitlists a few days later. In that case, people were unsure whether their acceptance was just held up for a day or two in the mail or if they would soon be getting the rejection. At least if acceptances are sent out later, we can assume that no news is good news. Having said that, I'm officially scared to check my mail.

hey all...first time poster here, but also super anxious! i am wondering, though, could the batches (be them rejections or acceptances) be sent in an alphabetical manner? for those who got notifications, are your last names more in the range of A-K rather than L-Z?

just a thought...

This reminds me of some scene in a war movie, where we are all trapped in a fox hole and scared for our lives because charlie hasn't let up since 0600...
Band of Brothers.

I don't think Duke sent waitlists out later. A friend of mine was 1 day closer to Duke than me and got her waitlist 1 day before I got my acceptance.

The acceptances were postmarked 3/1 and all the waitlists I've heard of have been postmarked 3/3. Perhaps not all of the acceptances were sent on the same day though, I'm not sure about that.

Another rejection here in the midwest 🙁

Has anyone heard from HST yet?
As I understand it, all of Harvard's decisions (NP/HST/MSTP) go out in a single packet/envelope. (correct me if I'm wrong?) That being said, I haven't heard anyone mention HST yet.

Mayday mayday, we're dropping like flies out here!
K-Dawg, I'm sorry man. Choose joy.

Oh pinkey and KevinZ... that sucks. 🙁

*hug* to all those who've gotten bad news so far

Just got my mail...no news is good news, right?

I'm also sad for those who have been rejected. On one hand, I have my own fair share of rejections from places i'd love to go, and we all know how it feels. On the other hand, everyone interviewed at Harvard is going to get at least a few other acceptances (um, loser Kevin and his 7 other acceptances :up🙂 so by the end of the summer when we're orienting and enrolling, none of us will even remember where else we got rejected.

Rejection here in NYC. I guess no news is really good news. I am kind of relieved believe it or not.

The last decision I am waiting for is HMS. I just opened my mailbox to a big envelope. Unfortunately, it was just a request for me to sign up for health insurance at another school. Ah, cruel fate 🙄

No news in the deep south(AL) I guess.

Hi Carlene,

I agree that it is ethical for a person to go into the financial aid website if their intentions are to apply for financial aid alone. However, I argue that it is unethical and morally questionable if one's intentions are to enter the website for the purpose of finding out their application status prior to receiving the letter. Although hacking requires a different method of intrusion, I believe that the those who have the intent of entering the financial aid website with the purpose of finding their status are also intruding on Harvard's privacy. Both are a form of intrusion and for that reason, it is unethical. Harvard admissions would agree that such an action is intrusive, which is why they changed their financial aid page for this year. I strongly discourage people from attempting to use alternate means of finding out their status other than the letter you will all receive. We, as doctors, must respect the privacy and policy of institutions and individuals alike, which means avoiding any means of intrusion without consent...I leave the definition of consent to Michael Sandel, whose class you might have taken during your undegrad years 🙂 Anyways, hope you are enjoying the muggy weather!

great, maybe i can get rejected by all 3 programs with one letter 🙄. I definitely have no chance at MSTP, and my HST interview went horribly.

I'm gonna work on making a map of the epidemic...kinda like the one we all saw in Outbreak.
"at 14:21, it had reached as far as NYC...."

What an interesting twist, now i dread getting mail. Good work changing it up Harvard.

Please oh please, let's not let this thread devolve into another ethics debate! Sifting through pages of long, heated entries for actual info related to Harvard decisions doesn't sound like much fun 😱

Pinkey already got a rejection today on the "west coast".

Rejected- NYC. I wish everyone else out there who's still waiting- GOOD LUCK. NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!!

Rejection in NYC.
I think if you get your letter later this week, it will probably be a good thing...Good luck to the rest of you!

Ahh...had slim hopes with my 31 MCAT score.

The worst part of the letter was how it sounded as if I hadn't even interviewed there yet...which I did...and how they assumed we were gonna get into another "Fine" school.

rejected--western PA
i had applied and interviewed for both NP and HST. I assume the rejection applies to both since they made no direct reference to either program. Best of luck to the rest of you!
