Hey I was wondering if anyone had an EM attending call a PD to help to try to get an interview. I wanted to know because I am having trouble getting a SLOR.

That is doable, espically if the EM attending trained at or have some type of ties to that program or PD. If its random, I dont know how much it would really help. I do have to wonder why you "are having trouble getting a SLOR" when you have an EM attending that might be willing to make a personal phone call on your behalf?

some of us don't come from schools with EM programs, but may have worked with an EM guy at some point. maybe that's what he means. i just went to another school to get one, but now i'm having to wait forever for it...

TRUE...and the phone call will work😉 this is what a close friend of mine did. Supposedly, the EM world is very small🙂

FYI - A SLOR can come from a EP affiliated with a school that does not have a EM residency. In has to come from a faculty member at an ED that has medical students rotating through, but it is not limited to the true "academic" programs. If it were, most people wouldn't be able to get 2.

Most will be willing to do 1 phone call. Choose wisely.

A SLOR helps, but if not a written eval from a EM doc is pretty necessary. Your Internist, Surgeon etc evaluates candidates differently.
