Has anyone heard from SMU regarding an interview request? I haven't and am beginning to feel a little nervous. Just curious if anyone else has applied and heard anything.

Hey! Have you heard anything about an interview yet?? I hadn't heard anything other than my application was complete and that was just a few days ago...

Congrats! I still haven't heard anything back. By chance, do you remember when you initially received the email stating "your application is being passed on"? I got that back on the 1st and feel a bit nervous that I still haven't received an invitation.

Hey Julie,
I believe I received the e-mail mid of November.I think you might need to call them before Christmas, and inquire about the interview. Wish you all the best
 
Hello! Thank you so much for the responses.

My application was received on October 24th. I am happy to share my STATS, I know this stuff helps all of us figure out where we stand in this whole process.

B.A. in Humanities
Last 60 GPA: ~3.8 (I think it's actually a 3.86, but not super sure since some classes were on the quarter system)
Volunteer hours: ~45 hours, One pediatric OT office; one developmentally based preschool (had OT); I plan to start at CPMC Hospital soon, I've already attended orientation there
Completed Occupational Therapy Prerequisites
• Human Anatomy
• Human Physiology
• General Biology
• Statistics
• Public Speaking
• Abnormal Psychology
• English Composition
• Abnormal Psychology
• Developmental Psychology

Still Need:
• Physics

Other Community Involvement & Volunteer Positions

Arthritis Foundation of Northern California
• 76 hours of volunteering

SF Sport and Spine Physical Therapy
• 34 hours of volunteering

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Team in Training
• Ran marathon to raise funds (2008)

Project Open Hand
•Saturdays, on-going 2011

What about you, WSUCoug2010? Have you heard anything? When did you apply?

I am really trying not to lose hope here, I want this so badly. 🙁 Looking through past threads, it looks like some students received interview invites as late as December 28th, so that is good to know!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Well I hope we don't have to wait till late that to find out, especially when interviews are the first and second week of January. I don't live in California, so I would have to fly down there. Do you know how they are notifying people if they got an interview or not? I will be out of town for the next week, so I hope it is by email.

I have only heard about my application status. That is it.

I have a BS in Kinesiology and minor in Psychology. My last 45 GPA is a 3.3, which isn't the greatest. I have over 800 hours of observation experience in SNIFF, Outpatient rehab, inpatient hospital, pediatrics, hand therapy, and ergonomics.

I have completed all the pre-reqs except for the 3D Skills class and physics, but they said they'll review my application. Since this is one of the only schools I am applying to that requires physics.

This is my 3rd year applying, and I am becoming very discouraged. 🙁 I have wanted to become an OT since I was in 8th grade, and it's hard to stay motivated when I am getting denied year after year.

Well, don't give up hope yet. I am sending both of us good thoughts that we will be classmates next year! :xf: Your GPA is totally fine for SMU's standards, and I am sure that your 800+ hours is going to make you stand out. I know that they really look for inpatient experience, which I lack.

Don't give up on your dream regardless of what happens -- there are a lot of us in your same boat and we have a lot to offer to individuals in need of care.

They are notifying strictly via email. Sorry, I missed that question when I originally replied! 🙂

Hey WSUCoug2010,
I think Samuel Merritt looks for the last 60 units for minimum GPA. Correct me if I am wrong.🙂
 
I just got an invitation today for an interview on Jan 21st. Keep me posted if you hear! 🙂

Not all are at noon. Mine was scheduled for 8 am the 21st, but I just got my acceptance from USC today!
