Having more fun in medical school than undergrad?

That was my first thought. I didn't have an awful time in med school (except for M1...), but it was nothing like college.

Agreed here too.

Nothing about med school has been all that hard or demanding - at least not to the extent of making it impossible to live a fun life. I'm starting to feel a bit of the pressure as step 1 is approaching, but with some exceptions the first two years have pretty much been a cake walk. I'm sure third year will be more demanding and interviewing for residency will be stressful, but frankly I don't see what about med school precludes having a good time - even a better time than in undergrad. I had fun during undergrad, but being with a group of people with which you share many interests (professional and otherwise) has been much more fulfilling than hanging out with people that were great people but with whom I didn't share much beyond I enjoyed spending time with them. Maybe it's because I never found my niche or went to the wrong college, I don't know, but with the exception of a few things, I've really enjoyed med school significantly more than undergrad. And I actually did have a lot of fun at college.

I think I'm personally having more fun because I'm now in a place where all of my peers have the same schedule as I and we all have such common interests. In undergrad (I went to a college with >50K students) I had a core group of friends (~5 or 6 people I would hang out with at least once or twice a week). However, we were on different schedules because of our different majors so when I would be done with an exam and want to go out they would be busy with a project or something much of the time.

During third year, this will all fall apart.

But yeah it's very true for M1-2.

That's probably where we differ. I enjoy non-medical people much more than medical people.

I'm halfway through 2nd year and med school has been pretty awesome so far. Yeah at times it sucks but the good times definitely outweigh the bad. I had an amazing time in undergrad, but considering I don't have a 30+ hour a week job on top of school, I feel like I have more free time than I did back then. The key for me is not going to class.

I think Nick Naylor is spot on with his assessment.

All of you who seem to like your medical school, can you please tell me where you go? I'm in the process of choosing what schools to apply to and it's so hard to make a decision purely based on stats. I want to know where students are actually happy in.

Same. Out of ~15 of my close friends, 1 is in the medical field, and 1 is trying to get in.
