Hi iam currently going into second year at my university(uni of toronto) and finished my first year with 2.7 gpa due to low calculus and organic chem mark (after summer school iam planning to raise it to about 2.8~2.9 by taking a half year course). I know i slacked off first year and iam planning to work my butt off next year.
Do u guys think i have a chance to U.S dental schools?I heard some U.S schools only look at the past 2~3years of undergrad from the year which you have applied. Pls help me with these issues! Thanks so much!

Figure out why you're getting bad grades. Fix that reason. Make a change. Get good grades. Raise your GPA. Build relationships with professors. Ask for letters of recommendation. Go shadow dentists. Get dental experience. Go volunteer. Study for the DAT. Do well on the DAT. Meet with a counselor. Write a personal statement. Fill out your AADSAS. Apply early.

Dental schools will look at all your academic years, but if you re-evaluate your study skills and do well for the rest of your undergraduate years, you should be fine. Admissions committees do not expect all their applicants to have a 4.0, but you have to make sure to try to get at least a 3.5+ every semester from now on.

only thing i don't agree on is a counselor/adviser. i personally found them useless and everyone here is so much more knowledgeable.

I suggest meeting with counselors and advisors from the actual schools you plan on applying to. I think that they, out of all people, would know best in regards to what they want in an applicant.

Exactly. When trying to get into dental school, counselors play a very limited role. They tend to know the general requirements of dental school, and that's about it. Plus, and this isn't meant to knock on them, but I don't particularly like taking advice on applying to dental school from someone who has never gone to dental school or has never applied to dental school. But that's just me. You're much better off talking to an advisor from a dental school if you have specific questions.

Transfer to york or ryerson and get as high a gpa as possible in the rest of your studies. Dental schools don't care if you come out of UofT. UofT only gets harder, if you can only pull 2.7-2.9 in the first 2 years, the chance of you doing better in higher year is very small (as you know... the drop out rate at UofT is high, so the higher year you go, the smarter the class pool gets, and with the course grades set at C+, getting good grades just gets harder and harder). Getting recommendations at UofT will also be a problem for you, because your grades will not get you any research position. If you go to York or Ryerson, you can probably get 3.5s. and with a 3.5 and a 20AA you will score many interviews at the private schools like BU, NYU, USC.
Good luck
