Recent OT graduates are unable to take their board certification (NBCOT) exam due to testing site closures. Other professions are making accommodations, while OTs are expected to just sit and wait several months until we are able to take the exam. This is causing an extreme backlog in test scheduling. OTs are essential workers, and without certification/licensure, we cannot work. This is unacceptable.
There is a petition to allow for remote administration of the NBCOT with live proctoring. There is software that allows for a 360 degree view of the environment to ensure academic integrity. It is a viable option being used for other tests currently.
I know many students post here. This may not be an issue that is impacting you directly if you are not at this stage in your education/career, but please consider helping out your fellow OTs! Advocate for us and for your profession. Please sign and share.
