I have been working with this professor for a couple of years who is also a practicing doctor and he wrote me a rec for med school. I submitted the letter to my school's pre health committee. Recently, i was told that he has been sued for sexual harassment and his medical license has been temporarily suspended. He said he is fighting to have his priviledge back. Does his reputation and legal issue have any influence on the letter and my application? I also applied to the school which he teaches and it is one of my top choices, so I am really worried...

Wow! What a tough position to be in! However, I think that people in the adcom will realize that although you may have a name association with this person, their actions are no way your fault. Moreover, since this person is/was a prof and a medical doctor, there is certainly a plausible reason for them to write you a letter and you NOT be associated with what they are being accused.

With all that said, if you have the opportunity to some how give LORs to other school or in lieu of the one that this person wrote, you may want to consider it, only to remove yourself from any potential issues that could come up. But, like I said, I think that adcoms are sensible enough to know that this situation isn't through any of your doing and you have a perfectly legitimate association with this person separate from their personal issues.

Onwards!

I am a male student so does that help separate myself from his legal issue? I am really worried ...
