Hello, Everyone,
I got my dental degree in China. And now I am in US and purpusing my PhD degree in basic medicine. But I dream to be a dentist in US some day, though it seems that it has a very long way to go.
I wrote to all the dental schools on the lists of ADA appendix B, which have advanced standing program. But unfortunately, the result is not as encouraging as what I expected. Some schools don't have such a program any more. Some schools need a master degree. and some schools need green cards. That makes me think that there is slim of chance for me to apply for schools. Do you think so?
Should I take Part I test first instead of being worry about the future? If I take the test, will the score be expired or impersuasive after a couple of years?
Would you give me some suggestion?
Appreciate it.

I am kind of in the same sittuation as you, just go ahead and take your part 1 with a good score and apply for schools. How much longer it'll take you to finish the school?
I have no clue as to when the score expires...will you need it after a couple of years though?

I have 3 or 4 more years. I am just wondering whether it is helpful to future application if I got a PhD degree. Otherwise I might switch to master as well.

You are fine. Take NBDE I just before you finish PhD then apply to schools for Advanced standing/International Dentist Programs. There are currently 14/15 schools accepting foreign graduates. Hopefully there will be more in next 3-4 years. Your PhD will be a strong point in your application. BTW apply for Green card asap after you finish PhD. You don't need a job offer for that (if you get it will make your case little stronger).

rahmed

What exactly do you mean by that? A PhD can earn you a permanent resident status?

Green card doesnt come along as a bonus with phd 🙂
one can apply for green card after u get a job n a sponser, with phd u could apply for employement based green card[ eb2], its much easier.

Yeah, That's what I thought that you need need to be employed after your master's or PhD to then apply for your permanent resident status. But Rahmed said you don't need to be employed!

Thank you everyone. 🙂
If I would like to start study for Part I, how can I get those review materials?
Dental Deck, Kaplan notes, Q bank questions
