FHCC requires the dean's letter.
I am withdrawing my application. I think this is where my downfall will be. :scared:

I got my first response of any kind today, FHCRC/UW asking for my 3rd letter (PD hasn't sent it yet) so they can forward it to reviewers for evaluation. Not sure if this means anything good but at least it's not bad news.

Sorry about your issues signomi. I know you mentioned this at some point but do you not have a Dean's letter, or is it just crap and/or outdated? If you don't have one, or it's crap then you're in a tough spot. If it's just outdated but still good, why not use it? All you need is a foot in the door.

As a transfer student in med school my dean's letter is a list of every comment ever written on an eval. Every. Comment. Try to imagine that. There is no way I would send it because the minority of negative comments are still so overwhelming because the letter is so short because I was there so briefly. I think they are the kind of comments that would be viewed as bitter people and would be deleted by the average dean. I had a retired 80 year old pediatrician who seriously apppeared to have mild dementia.

I would hope my residency and fellowship and private practice letters would speak volumes more about me. But programs appear fixated on that letter before they will even consider you.

Rejection from UW/FHCRC. They said due to J1 visa. I know people who got invites from Vanderbilt (american graduate) and Fox Chase (FMG/J1/e-mail). I did not receive any news from these.

Best to all, and have a healthy, happy, and lucky New Year!

Invite from U of Iowa by email. Interview dates: February 9th and March 30th. No news from Fox chase or AE. Take it as rejection. Good luck for everyone applying this year.

Have received invite from U Maryland, the old rejection from U Colorado.

Question for the group: Have you guys released your Dean's Letter to programs that did not specifically ask for it? For me its still a positive element, it just doesn't "glow" as much as some of my other documents.

I didn't even submit a dean's letter.
Other than a request for the dean's letter from FHCC, I haven't heard a peep from anywhere. :scared:

Yes guys...
I think after this match we can organize ourselves and flood ERAS with e-mails. We pay a fee for every program and most of them don't care about leting us know our status. All the programs should send our status, even if we were rejected. We are paying for this.

Hey Guys,

Since I'm too lazy to look it up, do any of you know of particular programs that require sending picture in? I was just wondering since I haven't done so yet (and hadn't planned on it). Just don't want something as not submitting a pic to delay the application process...

first invite today after a long wait...from u of cincinnati.

can someone ps explain which program in NCI has been sending interviews. I could not find any hemeonc program there. is this Cancer Prevention Fellowship program.

What a good news!!! Finally got interview spot at FCCC; pretty excited to go there. Invitation sent by e-mail. Interview dates as outlined above.
For Midwest-regardind picture, I am not quite sure if it is required for all programs but I am aware some of them made clear in their websites (see Northwestern) that picture is part of application materials.
So far 2 rejections (BID, Iowa) and one interview.
Good Luck to everyone. Keep posting🙂

February 10, 2007
February 17, 2007
February 24, 2007
March 3, 2007
March 24, 2007
March 31, 2007

again, good luck to everyone.

cherry ghost - kicking some serious arse on the interview trail! Wait to go - 2 great interviews in under a week. Save some for the rest of us, will ya? 😉

UPenn, Tufts, and Yale have also started sending out interview offers, for those of you keeping track.

Good luck, all.

Received interview at Tufts via regular mail. Don't know the interview dates yet because I have to call to find out.

Very excited to receive NYU invite today via email. NYC is my top choice for family reasons. Hope it will work out. Interview dates: from January 26th to March 30th one day each week. Good luck to everyone.

Hi - what do you think of NYU?

why do you like it?

I know it's a great fellowship program, but i heard there is not
that much structured teaching at other places.

Invite from NYU also by email. For some weird reason, it was put in my bulk folder. I guess yahoo thought it was spam?

Hello all,

Hope the new year brings more interviews and happiness to everybody. Do any of you know about the heme/onc programs in northern california including the big names like UCSF, Stanford and aslo the affiliated programs. I have applied to all and just wondering if any of you heard from them, and also the competitiveness of those programs. Have a w/ful i/v season.,..GL.

To Puju, Cherry ghost has an invite from UCSF already (see above). UCSF is obvious very competitive. Wish will hear some good news soon.

For IMGs out there, do you guys know which programs are solely supported by NIH T32 training grants (which means only permanent residents are eligible)? I am in a strange situation: green card pending. I do not need a visa to work but I am not a permanent resident per se and is not eligible for NIH training grant. Any J-1 holder there can shed some light on the grant issue? We can not apply to these programs. I got an invite from NYU, which, based on its website, is supported by NIH grant. I am not sure if I should go for the interview.

Good luck to all of us and hope for the best.

Hi Cherry ghost,

Congrats on Ucsf i/v.can u shed light on some of the other N cali programs esp how stanford compares to UCSF if you have any scoop on those. Thanks and GL with ur interviews.

NYU by email yesterday. Then a f/u email about having to apply to both the Hem and Onc tracks. I assume this means they're no longer doing single boards. This may keep me from interviewing there. I'll wait and see about other NYC programs I guess. Can't really afford the time/cash to go for one interview at a program I may not be interested in.

Also got the email from UW/FHCRC about how nobody has been invited to interview yet and apps are just under review. Not stressed yet. Friends applying to cards and ID who finished their apps a month or more before I did haven't heard anything yet.

In an attempt to consolidate west coast interviews with one trip, I emailed Stanford to ask the status of my application. They said I did not make the first round of invites but they would keep me posted if my status changes (whatever that means).

Puja asked if I knew the differences in the nothern California programs, and other than what's listed on the websites, I don't know much inside info on either of these programs.

Again, good luck to everyone.

Got an invite from UTSW by email 🙂

Rejection from UNC Chapel Hill. Eras e-mail.

cherryghost - just curious, any reason you need/want to be back in Cally? Just wondering, no ulterior motive...BTW, don't sweat the date with Stanford - you're first cut at UCSF and MD Anderson, but not first cut at Stanford? Good to see the randomness of residency interviews hasn't gone out of the system with fellowship apps...😉

For those keeping score, Beth Israel Deaconness in Boston has started scheduling interviews.

George washington withdrew from ERAS after most of us paid for the program. This is very frustrating. Received one rejection from Fox chase by regular mail. Midwest , are you currently doing residency or you already graduated?

Oncfinder, I'm currently a 3rd year resident. Did I seem like an old fart already? 😉

Colorado interview by phone. Dates on their website.

Is it just me, or are things slowing down w/ the interview offers? Is it simply a matter of waiting for another period when programs send out boluses of offers (ie- was that the first round already of offers and everything else is for 2nd stringers?) Also just wondering when interview offers typically STOP coming. Thanks guys and good luck!

Sigmoni, when did you submit your application to MSKCC? I called them and was told that I have to wait. I sent my application 12/11. Thanks.

Has MSKCC downloaded again after early Dec? Mine were still not downloaded. Their website says the deadline is 1/15, I'm worried.

To Lanzii, yes MSKCC downloaded mine after Christmas. Good luck.

My impression based on this forum is that most places have sent out initial offers, so "B"-list invites might go out in the next few weeks...Which begs the question, if the interview involves travel, is it really worth going - for example, from one coast to the other? Because given that most semi-competitive programs probably don't have that much movement down their rank lists, I'm wondering whether it's worth the time, expense, and paybacks for cross-coverage to go to an interview where you likely won't be ranked highly, or where they're not as serious about you (or else they would've interviewed you right off the bat with the first wave)? Just wondering out loud...

I personally think we are still in the beginning-middle of interview invitation season. And even if I'm the last one to be invited to MSKCC I'll sure go there! 🙂🙂
Keep the hope folks!
Good luck
