I just took my topscore test and got an 18 purely using search and destroy. I mean, I don't think it is possible to retain that much facts when reading all of the paragraphs at once.

Also, when I do search and destroy, I read the question first and look for a keyword that matches the question in the passage. But when I go on the next question, I don't remember what I've read so I had to go back from the 1st paragraph for ever single freaking question.

does anyone have any tips?

I am an ESL kid:laugh:

i dont know what ESL means but my suggestion would be to read the entire passage. actually READ it. if youre not a fast reader or you find that very difficult, i suggest skimming it. read over every sentence, or at least glance at every paragraph first before you start answering questions, noting keywords that u think will be of importance. this will give your brain an image and an idea of where to quickly scroll when u start answering the questions. RC is totally doable with reading the entire passage imo, and going back to answer the questions.
think about it, if you have time to read and understand at least the first two passages, and answer all the questions correctly, if you dont have time for the 3rd passage to actually Read and understand it, then go into search and destroy mode and get as many questions right as u can on that 3rd passage. i think this will guarantee a good rc score....especially if your passages are science based.

ESL = English as a Second Language

I hated my ESL teacher in high school... she was fat, mean, and smelled like a cheap perfume. Eeek. And I swear she hated asian people for some reason. *shudders*

Well back to the main topic.. S&D won't work if your DAT has a lot of tone / inference questions; you'll be screwed big time. Perhaps you should try the CDR program? Doing a few practice tests with CDR should show you what I mean.

ESL = English as a Second Language.

I speak, read, and write another language and I moved to the US at the age of 14.

Now. I feel like the questions that topscore ask require ZERO conceptual understanding of the passage. As long as you can locate where the answer is on the passage, it will exactly match the answer in the answer choices.

I know there might be some tone questions but do you think there will be tons of them?

IMO, it is impossible to read the whole passage and retain all of the info to go answer all of the questions.

By the time I am on the 3rd paragraph, I've already forgotten most of what I've read on the 1st one.

oh, then im ESL too i guess. my family/home doesnt speak english, although i speak english in school, went to english speaking schools etc the whole shebang.
anyways, yes there CAN be alot of tone inference questions, mine had alot. but my RC section was a fat annoying troll. there also CAN NOT be alot of tone inference and just alot of straight forward questions. it could go either way. i dont know when your DAT is, but just skim to the best of your ability, remember key words, then search and destroy that effer !!!!! you can do itttt

my test is on tuesday.

At this point, I don't feel pretty good about PAT and reading. Should I postpone? I don't feel like doing that cuz i have been studying since may and just want to get it over with already LOL

I am hoping for a 19AA but I am NOT applying till next year. I have a 4.0 GPA though😉

BRZ24,

Do you own a BRZ and is it on 24's?

Anyways.......... postpone the test if you don't feel comfortable taking it next week, especially if you're not applying this cycle. Being confident, relaxed, and comfortable is key to acing the test and life.

AHAHAHH

Gonna get that subaru soon.

I feel pretty confident on the sciences and math. However, reading and PAT... (not so sure lol). I have been studying since mid may and just want to take it already. I am afraid I'll forget all the stuff I've learned.

thats the best think about education even in dental school no matter how much you study you feel like you forgeting stuff or do not know much. But at the end of the day on the real exam comes you will remember everything. and do very well. Since you are studying a good amount and hopefully doing practice problems i am pretty sure you will do good in your RC and pat. its only practice that improves those 2. you cant really study or memorize for them only practice 😀
