How do I become a good student?

Things I plan on doing this summer include seeing my school's learning center, reading a few books, and possibly get ahead in my classes for next year. Is there anything else I could do? I got through elementary school and high school on smarts alone, studying is so foreign to me I feel like I'll never get the determination and discipline a premed needs.
