How is it fair....

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't even know what DO really is at the moment an do not like the sound of it. Apparently there's one in my state (city) that I never even knew about... And I've never been a DR XXXX, DO. And nope, solid B+s and like a mix of A-s and Bs.

If you haven't even done the research to know what DO is then you have no business coming to these boards and complaining.

Uhm, she copied her entire report for AP Bio from the internet, transferred a state school, and again- 16 ACT. I've come to the conclusion that everyone on here goes to low rank/unranked schools and therefore does not understand why I'm annoyed.

But who cares? She'll get into med school, and match into orthopedic surgery ranking in the top 5 of her class.

After all, you DONT need to be highly intelligent/smart to be a doctor. If you do, there would be an even bigger doctor shortage!

Then what's this "wasted 120k' about? If you're not applying for two years, then you probably have enough time to bring your GPA up anyways.
Well, my school costs 60k per year x 2 years = 120k.

It's not a competition, get the "we get beat" out of your head. Easy A doesn't mean people don't work hard. Remember, in some schools, while 25-30 percent get an A, that is FAR from the majority. Just because it's easier doesn't mean people don't work hard. Don't assume so quickly.

And, well you choose to try to go to top schools. Remember, you didn't have to go to the college with the strictest grading policies. I'm sure you chose it cause of other factors(location, cost, has a good school for your program).

If it's a problem, just transfer to an "easier" school. It really doesn't matter in the long run.

Exactly. Where will complaining get you? I don't get it. If you feel so strongly, transfer to another school.

The kreb's cycle is the kreb's cycle. Too bad no professors would ever ask you to define it.

That's cause they probably don't give a **** like 95% of 1st year med students.

LOL as if she would be premed, she's smart enough to know better. She herself says the CC is a joke. By the way, I live a block away from said CC, have taken classes there, and my brother went there and then a ridiculously easy state school. <- I'm jealous.

There are two types of Medical Schools. Osteopathic and Allopathic. Allopathic schools grand an MD degree, whereas Osteopathic grand a DO degree. Both can enter ANY residency (assuming you are competitive). Osteopathic schools are less competitive to get into(meaning you could probably get in with a 3.3-3.5 range), and they focus on a holistic approach to medicine.

Would you return a 30k for a 5k one? No, I'm in too deep.

How far in school are you? One year? That's far from being too deep.

Regardless, you chose the college you went to for your reasons. Unfortunately, it wasn't the one you wanted. If you can't transfer, just continue to work hard. Who the hell cares that 50% of people have it easier than you? You aren't competing against them. If you ever think like this, you're adding unneeded stress. Just do you, and you'll be classmates with half the people from an "easy" school and half the people in situations like yourself.

I'd rather have a Ph.D. I'll look into it more though.

I also don't want to apply to DO as they don't care about schools, which this thread is all about lol.

Trolls die out by the 2nd page through either 1) contradicting themselves, 2) getting banned, 3) by not getting satisfaction from the replies. This is legit son.
If this legit, then damn OP is one bitter SOB.

JEEZ. I spent 60k per year, which if I keep repeating 120k, means I've been here for 2 years.

But DO schools are less competitive. You would be a great fit to get into one! 😀

Right... With people with the same GPAs from me from schools with 10 percent graduation rates. No, I respect MD to even slightly consider school difficulty.

You have to be one of the most entitled POS that I've seen on these forums yet.

Are you honestly saying you'd rather get a PhD at a name brand school than become a physician at all? What is wrong with you? You have a chip on your shoulder because a non-premed friend is getting good grades at a community college? How does this affect your life at all? You're not entitled to med school. You haven't earned it either. Stop complaining. If you really want this then just work hard and make it happen. You're in a fine position to improve and get MD or DO, both of which will lead to a satisfying and fulfilling career if your dream job is to be a doctor.

Bottom line: Get over yourself, you're not special.

So you have a choice. Continue with 120K for two years, or continue for 2-3 years(some stuff might not completely transfer + differing major requirements) for less money but more happiness.

What's important to you? Do you want A's? Then transfer to the easy school. Do you enjoy the actual school? Do you enjoy the education(cause remember, a B is a very good grade too!)? If you love the school a lot minus not getting easy A's....then stay. But, if you want easier grades, and it's cheaper, go to the cheap school.

There will be people from MD schools in the same situation.

I hope you don't share any resentment towards URMs who get in with low stats tooo....

LOL, my "dream medical school" if you can even have one, isn't even ranked. So no.

Not really, everyone has to play their cards, right? I'm first generation and I plan to use that. It just sucks when you could have PICKED those cards....

It doesn't suck when you can pick those cards. I understand you are mad because you picked the wrong card. Remember, you didn't have to go to that harder school. I dunno what your personal reasons for choosing that school, but it appears it didn't work out for you in terms of satisfying your needs/goals.

I'm just going to say......if you really want to be a doctor, then you'd consider going to a DO school. Keep that GPA above 3.3 and you can probably get in.

Well, at the time it was the right card. Because in any graduate school application process -> my school>lesser school.
I was just foolish to think medical schools applied.

You should never pick a school because you think it'll look good for some graduate school crap. But, life lesson learned, something you can teach your kids.

Then you don't really want to be a doctor. You just wasted 10 minutes of my time.
You act like I'm the only person to turn their nose up to DO. Many people have worked hard to improve their app to reapply. Why didn't they just apply DO?

Well, it was my dream school so I will push my kids to go after their dreams. I would never push them to save money and go to a crappy university, it's so sad that everyone on here thinks that's the smarter move. I'm sure most of you couldn't even get into my school at the time and now you guys are in a better position.

Truth. Find ways to study smarter and study harder instead of complaining about other people's performance at other schools over which you have zero control. You have full control over your own grades. So work harder to earn them -- someone's got to be getting As your courses, why can't it be you? Your university at one point deemed you as capable as any of your other classmates and admitted you to the same university. Step it up.

Also, where in the world do you go to school to assume that no one on this forum has had to deal with a more challenging environment? Unless you go to Reed, study engineering at MIT/CalTech, or attend one of the few truly grade-deflating schools, I'm not impressed.

Says the person who just found out what an Osteopathic Physician is 5 minutes ago.........
Nope, always knew of it. Thought it was dumb as I don't believe in holistic bs. Through SDN I realized it's pretty decent, but no thank you.

Because they're geniuses from China who had a even harder time getting in here and spend like 10 minutes on Physics homework when I spend 2 hours. So, please, natural intelligence is a thing.

Guess so. Still don't understand how some uni's upper level courses with their easy exams, extra credit, and homework that makes a difference in grades compared to schools with exams being the only way you're graded and that are so convoluted you cry.

Someone should explain to me without any biases. Maybe I'll ask a premed adviser.

I'd ask your advisor but I'm not sure if anyone would be able to answer that for you. I went to a top ten school and had those crazy exams you speak of but I liked it. I felt that it prepared me for my next step. I'd approach your school work with that mindset instead of focusig on others. It seems like it only brings you down.

REALLY is. I never actually googled it. But when I did, didn't learn much else.

I had a 3.5 and 31 and will be attending a DO school next semester. These aren't stellar stats but they don't label me as the dumb*** you seem to think I am.

Nope, not at all. If I had your stats and wanted to be an MD (which I do), I wouldn't settle.

Also, I'm confused. So for DO grade replacement, I can't go to a CC/local uni so I need to take them here for no credit? Uh..

...so you're saying it's unfair there are people who are smarter than you and you have to work harder to get the same results as they do? That may be so, but it certainly isn't something that's unique to you or something that can be helped by complaining. Life is unfair. Work with what you've got and make the best of it. If that means working thrice as hard as everyone else to get where you want to be, suck it up and do that. Whether you're committed enough to make that commitment is a decision you'll have to make. Good luck.

NO, CHEEZUS. If I had to put in 10 hours to get an A and he had to put in 10 minutes to get that A, WHAT-THE-****-EVER. I am not getting As though...

In high school, I worked til 3AM. I know what it's like to have to work harder to get same results, but I'm capping at a B.
