Hello,

I was just wondering how many schools would you suggest applying to? I am a CA resident, 4.0 GPA, and DAT scores are 17 Bio, 19 Gen Chem, 20 O Chem, 22 QR, 18 PAT, 19 RC, 18 TS, 19AA. Right now I was thinking 20? Is that a good amount? What schools would you suggest?

Thank you!

Honestly if you can afford 20+ then there's no harm in doing it. Look for schools that fit your GPA/DAT profile, as well as your tuition. Don't forget to pay attention to the out-of-state acceptance rates for schools. I would be amiss if I didn't mention that although your GPA is excellent your DAT is pretty low 🙁

Ok thank you, but do you think I still have a chance at some programs. I just really am not looking to take the DAT again, it was a pretty brutal experience.

I would retake the DAT if possible. A 4.0 gpa and 18TS doesnt look so attractive. A beauty and the beast LOL

i strongly suggest you to retake the DAT

20 is a safe number for you and more than that is overkill. 4.0 GPA is really good though so you could be ok with 15 as well.
Just curious about your DAT, did you go in unprepared/didnt care or is your undergrad an easy school ?

that's not true. many factors to consider here: what undergrad school, is the student involved in EC's, the rigor of courses etc.
It could go either way after considering those things

I know they consider other things, talk about undergrad, what would the adcom thing when they see 4.0 with 18TS LOL. Retaking the DAT would put him in better position to get admitted into the program of his choice or cheaper school. To maintain a 4.0 throughout undergrad is difficult and required tremendous amount of work, I just dont want him/her to waste it over a low DAT score.
