So my question is, how often I should shadow this year? I will be applying during 2013 cycle.

Not often..maybe just near the end rite before you apply so you have a recent log in, stats are key in this, and this in addition to your NIH-post-bacc program will make you a top applicant at nearly every school...enjoy your time off, and GL!
