ive been reading post after post and most sound like they are either "career changers" or just older than tradintional applicants with other fields on their belt.
do you guys think that adcoms give these "older" people more consideration? I am a regular recent college graduate. who has the advantage, someone fresh from school, young....or people with other jobs trying to change fields?

i think beautiful applicants have an advantage. if you're worried about getting into d-school just try your best to be attractive... i think i'll start a thread for attractive pre-dents

haha unfortunately, I think this is rather true..
and i do think being older may help in some cases.. it makes you seem more mature. Some older applicatants already have families, which also make them less likely to drop out and switch careers again.

I'm afraid i'm at a slight disadvantage b/c of my age.. i'm 18 now, i'll be 19 when i enter.

im 19 too i'll be 20 when i apply

If you look at the aadsas official guide to dental schools..the avg age of matriculating students is 24...you should really get that book if you're applying...

just barely drinkin age, thank god

I was 19 when i applied, my first interview was the day before my 20th birthday. Being young is definetly pretty cool. I thot that id be the youngest in my dental school class but there will probably be younger students. The only thing is if ur under 21 u cant drink with ur buddies. When you interview, you have to be just as convincing as an older student, in terms of your reasons for applying and your personal experiences.

"im only 19 but my mind is old, when things get for real my warm heart turns cold"

the infamous

mobb

How are you people applying at 19? Did you graduate from hs 2 or 3 years early?

I am pretty sure there are a lot of 21-22 year olds entering Dental school but applying at 18 or 19 just seems ridiculous.

Age only matters if you let it matter. If you've got the stats and extracurriculars and the persistence (i.e. following up after you submitted your app, several times if necessary) you will get an interview. But if the interviewer can sense you are unsure of yourself because of your age (or for any other reason) then you will surely not get accepted. Be confident in yourself, demonstrate your passion for dentistry, and stay positive - that will give you the advantage!

wow...when I was 19, turning 20, I was doing lots of stuff, but definitely not seriously considering a career or going into a doctoral program...you young'ns are pretty impressive.

I'm a little over 26 years old, but I stay young at heart by dating older people and being the immature one in the relationship.

25

I finished undergrad in May of 2001 and I've been working for the last 5 years. I got a M.S. while working and then decided that I hated my career at some point after that and I've been working towards dental school since then.

I'll make a showing for the apparently "old" applicants...27 come interviews...Every day at work I'm the youngin'...it'll be nice to get back in school and be the older and wiser...😉

19 years old? wow you guys are awesome!

I'm 21 yrs old and I hope to score higher than my age on the DAT. 😛

21 right now, sucks that I look 18, this will bode well for my interview...

I will be 21 when I apply, but I look really young. I can go for 16-17. That's sad....tsk tsk.

22, 23 when i start in August🙂

just turned 21 😍

i was on pace to graduate in 2.5 years but delayed it to 3 yrs so that i could chill in college, plus being a RA was incredibly fun
