I'm a 3rd year undergrad looking for an efficient way to spend my winter break (2017-2018). I haven't seen any research programs or internships for that short of time, but if anyone knows of something more time consuming than shadowing and volunteering, please let me know! I've accumulated a good bit of experience in those departments but figure there is something out there I haven't tried!

If you wanna combine learning and vacation, this summer I'll be doing an intensive Spanish course and homestay in Guatemala. It's surprisingly cheap, and a couple of weeks of immersion and study will give you a passable (but not quite conversational) level of Spanish.

This is applicable for many different regions and languages, although Central and South America are very cheap for this. You could spend half of break doing language immersion, then the other half backpacking around--which I highly recommend.

Ski or snowboard, whichever floats your boat

I spent mine shadowing and getting to get some "hands on" experience in the clinic. Some of my best and most formative clinical experiences were from winter break shadowing.

Also do research but it was already ongoing, year long.

It's April...

If you HAVE to do something during those 3 weeks try to pick up some extra shifts wherever you are getting voulentering or clinical exposure.
But I strongly recommend you take this time to destress. Burnout is a very real thing
