I have a question about how the match/rank works for the PM&R and other "advanced" subspecialty. Let me try to put out my understanding of this first.
1, for categorical, you just rank them on primary list. right?
2, for advanced, you rank them on primary list; then for each of them, you rank supplemental list of transitional year or preliminary. The system will only rank the supplemental list for each advanced program if you tentatively matched to that advanced program. If you did not match to certain advanced program, the system won't rank "its" supplemental list of transitional year. In this situation, sometimes people can end up with matching to advanced but no internship; but they won't end up with internship only from this kind of ranking way.
3, you can also rank transitional or preliminary year on primary rank order list, right? Is that the reason why sometimes people end up with transitional year or prelim only with advanced program?
Did I make it clear? Am I right? Please correct me if I am wrong.😕
