How's everyone hanging in there with the Match coming up?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How was your experience on the interview trail? Do you feel like psych is getting very competitive?
I wouldn't say very competitive. It is still on the lower range of competitiveness, but it is no longer the automatic match it used to be. I was pleasantly surprised by the interview offers I received as some of them I didn't expect to get. My COMLEX scores were strong, but my USMLE scores were just average. I applied to 55 places and received about 25 interview offers (attended 13). If I could do it over I probably would have only applied to about 30-35 programs and attend about 10 interviews as I think 13 was a little overkill. I applied to a wide range of places from top programs to the less competitive ones. I think as long as you get near the average on USMLE you will have a ton of options and even if you just get like a 200 on the USMLE you will still most likely match as long as you don't have any red flags and apply to more places.

I'm glad yall seem upbeat! A few of the AOA surgery hopefuls at my current hospital look a little sleep deprived and terrified. It's the only time this year I've been happy to be an M3 and not an M4😎

I can't function properly ... it's offficial, nervousness has set

Stress manifests itself in strange ways for me. Often as paranoia. I'm not sure what Psychiatrist Me would say about that. It does drive my husband crazy.

I'm starting a required Medicine Sub-I that day. I'm planning on going in for orientation and then telling my resident I'm probably going to be useless and hoping he/she takes pity on me.

ACGME--plenty of money and relaxation for me. Been a pleasure hanging through the madness with you guys the last few years. Good luck bromigos, and may the force be with you:horns:!

What makes you decide to chose PMR over other specialties? I'm asking this question bc PMR is among the top 3 specialties that I'm considering...

Probably the same things that make a lot of people pick whatever field they are going into over the other specialties out there--plus I simply like it the best.

Specifically for me tho: Great work life balance. Nice earning potential. The subjects dealt with in the specialty mirror my areas of interest in medicine. Fellowships in what I see myself doing for a living.

May the odds be ever in our favor.
Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight! Fingers crossed for the AOA Psychiatry match in particular.

A little jealous that you find out tomorrow. This wait is no fun. Good luck my fellow psych DO applicant!

I ranked a program I should not have and hope I DONT match tomorrow!

I hope everyone gets the result they want!

Good Luck!

Good luck everyone, the pain/emotional torment is almost over! the good news is that you have the Superbowl to distract yourself until tomorrow.

So much this. I was tempted to rank a few programs in the AOA match just to try anden end the torture sooner.

I am nervous for the match especially since I'm applying neurosurgery as an OMS-1 with no research or board scores . Wish me luck guys!

If you hear wailing originating somewhere from an outer borough of New York City, that'll be me.

Is anyone else hearing that digital countdown from 24, or am I having a stroke?

Congrats everyone! It'd be awesome to know where you guys attend med school and which specialty you matched into. But I totally understand some might want to maintain anonymity.

So I applied for general surgery and unfortunately did not match =( I'm freaking out about the scramble and suspect there will be no open surgery positions. Any advice on applying transitional internship vs. IM?

I applied for one NMS program and unfortunately, did not match today. Now I am worried I will not match NRMP either as I am a weak applicant. My problem is that I already certified my rank list for the ACGME. Does anyone know whether I can still try to scramble AOA this week?

You can change and recertify the NRMP rank list as many times as you want until the 22nd, so if you left any programs off the acgme list or something you can put them back on there.

oh what I meant is, do you know whether certifying for NRMP prevents me from trying to scramble into AOA today? sorry for being unclear.

Oh i do not believe so. I think wherever you match first gets dibs.

Thanks. I called and confirmed with my Dean that I can scramble. The reason for the confusion was due to an e-mail I received from my school that mentioned that only students who did not certify for the NRMP could try for the NMS scramble, but it was a clerical error.
