hSDN Class of 2014

ahh i feel you. Yeah it can kinda suck from that perspective and I had the same problem, but instead I basically used it as a "GPA booster"/"go home and make pancakes while you watch netflix" year. Makes it worthwhile.
Get a girl friend this year? Challenge accepted. 😛

Pancakes are the BEST. I remember when iHOP had unlimited pancakes for like 4.50$!

If you guys can please check out my latest thread and see if you guys can give me any advice that would be great! Also, I start school next Wednesday! Yay me!

Gosh, you try to stop smart people from becoming nurses, but you just can't....

Look at my twitter to see what I'm talking about :bang:

Has anybody started working on their essay yet or am I really the only one XD
I miss being institutionalised 😛
This is my second gap year. Spent the first one volunteering in a polio campaign and the second one in the hospital (as a patient)...
The horrible part is that I was supposed to apply last year and couldn't (health stuff) and ALL of my tests needed retaking because I gave them in 2011...
I'm actually class of 2012 if anyone's confused 😀

College essays? I litterally just started drafting them today! I've been checking out all of the prompts from last year and I've been modeling them around that.

How does being a Gap student work (if that's what they call it)? Does it make you look different from someone who doesn't take a year off?

You do know that they've released their prompts for 2013-14 right?
And it's the same. According to my counselor, being a gap year student's the same but adcoms will want to see me put the Gap years to good use. I did a lot in the beginning but it ended up with me getting stuck in the ICU for 6 months. So, *hopefully* my gap years won't go against my odds.

Do you mean this one? https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/DownloadForms/2013/EssayAnnouncementFinal.pdf

If not, then could you please direct me to the actual prompts?

Ahh I see. Nice.

The same prompts 😀
You mentioned working on last years prompts so I thought maybe you didn't know...

I said to myself that I'll be working on college essays like 2 weeks ago lol and still haven't started. I don't get home tomorrow until about 4 p.m., so I guess I'll start them, for real this time 😀

You're correct, I didn't know that the prompts for this year were out. That's what I was asking.

Tomorrow=last day of summer and last day in the lab! 🙁

Should I get one thank you card for them allowing me in the lab this summer? Or is that not cool?

Absolutely do a thank you card. I send one to every doctor I shadow.

First day was fun! AP Bio teacher is a little iffy tho.

AP biology is a fun class, I had a really good teacher. It sucks for you pre-med junkies because they took almost all the human body and physio. I think you guys will only learn about the kidneys and how they work, gas exchange, metabolism and the brain and its regions relating with its functions. Also viral genetics and immunology too. We learned majority of the human body and physio via cat dissection and we had to research a lot on our own.

Study, study and study some more, know the material in and out and you should be fine. I'm bad at retaining information, I managed to pull off an A. So if I can do, hell, anyone can. Good luck lol.

The new AP bio format/test is so beyond dumb in my opinion.

I got an A- in the class and a 4 on the exam and DO NOT feel like I have any sort of mastery of college-level Bio. The exam was like a bio-focused ACT science section on steroids.

I'm going to re-take it in college anyways... So I could honestly care less on how I perform on the AP test. I am only using Dual Credit ENG 101-102 credits in college.

That was my mentality too, but I'm going to a college that doesn't let you deny AP credit unless you're over the max 32 credits, which is what I am at exactly, so I can't deny any of my credits. A 4 on Bio gives me credit for one semester of bio, so I either have to take cell bio OR evolution/ecology bio, not both. It'll actually help me in terms of clearing up my schedule a bit which is insanely packed at the moment, but it means I'll have to study extra hard for the BS portion of the MCAT.

Ahh I see!

My schedule came in the mail today. I nearly cried 🙁 lol

As of today, I have less than a month left for Summer. Where did the time go 😕

I am still wondering that! First week of school has ended for me! Things are going amazing!

Whats your sched?

Wow, you began school pretty early. I still have some weeks left. Btw, what courses are you taking this year?

AP Calc, Dual 101-102 english, AP Bio, Gov/Econ, Weights and TA. Pretty easy load but then again our school offers like 4 AP classes.

I already posted my schedule so I'm not going to lol.

But anyway, I was thinking about dual enrollment, but I love the teacher who teaches AP lang & comp and also he was taught at a college, so he's pretty much the real deal.

Okay so I had a question. Does it look bad if I take ENG 101-102 credit as a dual enrollment and transfer it my university? Will those count toward the pre-med prerequisites? Do they not want to see a CC credit? Should I take advantage of it? I am planning on only using ENG 101-102 credits and Calc 1 credit in college, retaking everything else.

i don't think it'll look bad.. I personally did it and got A's - I don't see the big deal as long as you do well.. But yeah, they'll see that it's from your CC. so basically, yes do it 👍

I'm a senior at OU. When I'm bored I troll sdn. I have advice: GO GREEK. Don't worry TOO much about school, it's suppose to be fun. I've had the Fuqn time of my life and have a cGPA of 3.92 and science of 3.98 and I'm a bio major/Chen minor.

i actually thought about studying chen, but i don't think i could handle it.

Seeing your posts depress me about school coming up. I guess we better get used to it though, we're all Pre-meds with another 8 years of school after this. 😎

I'm glad my schedule is not that hard cause I'm actually starting to get senioritis. LOL

Edit: Not quite senioritis but more like lets just fastforward to the last week of school feeling.

I'm gonna get senioritis pretty fast. The only good thing about it is that most of the courses I took last year are going to be the same, (chem, bio, physics, math, English) just a bit harder, but basically the same. The only new ones are going to be philosophy, economic development and world history. 😀

lol take as many bs easy classes out of the 5 required.. that's what i did

Damn, you guys all start a lot earlier than my school... We don't go back until after labor day. Hope it's going well for everybody so far! I'll be picking up my AP bio book from the office tomorrow for the summer assignment 👍. We have to read and take notes on the first 5 chapters, so it should be pretty easy to get done in more than a month.

The only thing I'm a little nervous about is AP chem 😱. I took honors chem my sophomore year, and even though I pulled out an A- both semesters with very little effort, I'm a bit concerned that I haven't retained much of that knowledge. If anyone else is taking AP chem, I found this summer preparation thing online that looks really helpful!

Anybody else trying to make serious changes to their study habits this year? I've gotten through HS so far with a GPA that I'm happy with, though I haven't been putting in much work.. I accomplished both of my HS goals (3.5 GPA and 30+ACT) but I know my past work ethic and study habits will not be sufficient for my senior year schedule, much less college. I really want to master the content of my classes this year, rather than just achieve a grade. Especially since (at least I'm hoping) a strong performance in AP chem & bio will help make the transition to college a bit smoother.

So here's to another school year, I wish everybody the best of luck.. Just think... Next year we'll have our own thread in pre-allo

Pretty darn good for only being your 3rd post. :claps:
