I ACTUALLY GOT an INTERIVEW?!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's pretty amazing how gaining an interview and performing well can boost the old ego. I speak from experience. I knew that if I could just get one school to sit down and talk with me, I would likely have a positive outcome.👍
I'm super excited for you. Whether you end up matriculating this coming year, or next, you WILL end up matriculating. You can rest assured that you possess the talent, ambition and shear determination to fulfill this life goal.
Congratulations again. As cutthroat as it seems sometimes, there are people here who care about you and hope that you get to make your dreams come true!

I hope you wore the tie from the 2nd pic...but you are very cute🙂, either way you go...anyway, I hope you got in.

I honestly dont think the interview could have went any better!
I spoke confidently, maturely and offered unique insight into matters asked in the questions. I dont think i could have performed any better even if i had known the questions in advance!
As soon as i finished the interview--I felt like I got an acceptance 😀
It'll be interesting to see if I get a call tomorrow. thats when we all find out if we have been accepted for Fall '09
But--I am left with a VERY good feeling in my heart about this one. I am very amazed at how well everything went.
*no longer fears interviews*

Good luck. Hopefully we'll be able to offer some congratulations tomorrow...

first off:
thanks metalmd and tony and eel and paramedic lizard
i dont really know your actual names (aside from tony) so i apologize for that much. i am sure you posted your identity somewhere at some point in time.

as far as how admissions works:
the class for 2012 is filled. everyone who has been accepted has sent in a deposit.
IF i am accepted for the class of 2013, then I get first dibs on the wait-list for this year pending anyone has to retract their matriculation agreement.
Otherwise i will have a seat waiting for me in '09.
My deposit will be due October 1st of this year (pending acceptance).
I am pretty stoked about all of this~! If the worse happens, then at least I gained confidence during this period and i feel more deserving of being one of the select small percentage that gain admittance to a US medical school!
😀

ps: btw--i hear that LECOM-B sent me a letter in the mail regarding my application status, most likely a rejection--but hey, i expected a lot of those. I also talked to AZCOM and they are currently looking over my file today to determine whether or not I will be granted an interview or denied.
I think i can deal with rejections because i remember reading someone's signature saying, "It only takes one!"

OH man, i hope u get an interview at AZCOM. the school is freaking beautiful! and i've decided i love cacti!
Good luck either way, hope u get in, but i'll def say this year will be much more fun!
cough cough....come to azcom.....cough cough

i keep calling AZCOM...and they keep telling me im on a pre-interview waitlist. and thats rough to hear. But i would absolutely LOVE to go there. I just got a connecting flight in Phoenix after my interview at PNWU and I sat in the airport staring out at the mountain/desert range and kept thinking how badly i would have liked to live there.
In response to your newfound love of cacti; I stopped off in a deli at the airport during intermission between flights and ordered a sandwich. The lady asked me if i wanted everything on it. I replied yes, then i paused and said well wait, what do you mean by everything? what is all going on there? Then i said some stupid remark that went something like, well if youre going to put little pieces of cacti on my sandwich, then i dont want everything. SO i just ordered a sandwich and hold the cacti.
it was a stupid comment on my part, but i felt conversational and felt like blabbing like an idiot.
btw can you somehow influence the adcoms to interview me? i wanna go to med school too!!!! im starting to feel really left out now.
maybe when i finish my ironman out in Tempe in a week, ill swing by the school and brag to them about my awesomeness or something =]

Any word from PNWU? Thought you were supposed to hear from them by now.

no call...but that brings up an interesting point--when i first arrived to check in for my interview, the phone number they had on file for me was incorrect.
I corrected for them at the moment, but im not sure if they DEFINITELY have my correct cell number.
I was told upon arriving at the interview that they invited us because they thought we were all intellectually capable of handling a med school curriculum...so i dont think my stats are holding me back.
I killed the interview too.
so im just wondering what went wrong.
maybe i smell bad...or they dont like bald people?
*confused in california*

Have you called them to see if you can find out anything?

HAHAHHAHHAHAHA
I woulda said hold the cacti.......and the mustard. (i have a phobia of condiments....shhhh dont tell anyone).
anyways, i will try my hardest to have some influence. lol. the ppl i interviewed with email me a lot to say hi, and one added me to facebook lol....maybe i'll post on her wall to send you an interview. I mean, when you've got awesomeness to share, you should prolly come to my school. we can have bday dance parties.....in the desert.....with the cacti......and the snakes......and our textbooks, cuz when we get tired we should prolly study 😉

ok, i'm out

I concur...you really should call. I, just like you, didn't get a call...(I was interviewing at RVU all day so wouldn't have answered anyways)...BUT on like Thursday or Friday I got a letter telling me I'd been waitlisted. Give em a quick call...you've got nothing to lose...and if you did as well as you thought...you just might be surprised! Good Luck :luck:

i just got a call back...after i called them and left a message.
surprised as hell...in a bad way >=(
turns out they thought i was a very strong applicant but i didnt score well enough in the interview.
im completely amazed and bewildered by that.
not to mention a little pissed off right now.
i guess im mad because i thought the interview went well and they thought otherwise. I was told that maybe i could practice my interviewing skills or something along those lines.
Personally--I don't think I could have answered those questions any better than I did. It might just be a difference of philosophy and im simply not the type of person that they are looking for.

*im going to go bang my head against a door for the next week*
-matt

ps: sorry to make such a big deal out of this ONE interview with a 3page long thread and all =/

oh man,
dont worry about it. this is just a blessing in disguise. now when you get an interview for azcom, you'll be even better prepared, kill it, and not have to worry about deciding which school. you'll be accepted to the best one ever! lol
seriously, dont sweat it. they dont know what they're missing 😉

I'm sorry to hear that Matt. 🙁

I thought I killed my DMU interview (like in a good way) and I was rejected a couple of weeks later.

All I can say is maybe it was just meant to be, maybe you will be a better fit at another school. Who know's maybe it's AZCOM? This is totally their loss . . . you seem like a great guy, they must not be looking for awesomeness because you were right in front of them. 😉😍:luck:

Matt, an awful lot of interviewing is the non-verbal communication. It might be worth it to find someone who specializes in this kind of thing and get some pointers. And I have no idea who that would be... but I know cops are really really good at it. So are lawyers.

thank you guys...very much. you are a kind bunch of people. very supportive. you will all make fine physicians.
i think that i have become a little bit more philosophical within this past hour and have come to some conclusions (which probably resonate with many of your suggestions):

1) I will take what I can from this interview and realize that they are subjective, yet still try to improve what I am capable of imroving. I want to become a better interviewer despite feeling like I am good as I can be.

2) Realize that PNWU's rejection is a blessing in disguise. I am enriched by this "unfortunate" event. I will probably develop into a stronger physician at a different medical school. This one wasn't for me.

3) I will become a physician one day. I will continue along on the natural course of my life with all the same ideals, pursuits and goals. The acceptance into a medical school will be an inevitability that simply accords with the natural order of things. It is bound to happen eventually.

Sorry dude, I was pulling for you. Chin up though. Like you said, its gonna happen, just be patient and knock up the MCAT a few points this year and your application will be getting all kinds of attention next year. Youll have more options and more perspective/drive.

Sorry to hear about the rejection...crummy way to have to end the week. A lot of people find that they get into the place they think they interviewed the worst...and get rejected from their best interviews...no real rhyme or reason to it.

Keep your head high man and you'll kill your next interview...wherever it is. You'll be so much better at it with having already had a little experience.

Keep the faith...

Don't apologize man - this thread was worth it.

Definitely! 👍 We're here to support and encourage one another, as corny as that may sound. Sorry about not getting in. Clearly they weren't in their right minds when they made that decision. 🙁

Hey Matt,
Don't get to down on this, it is only a temporary issue. I think if you had applied a little bit earlier, you would have had a different outcome. My 2 cents is retake the MCAT & apply early! Then you will be on your way to Dr. Matt Oglesby next fall 😉

I agree. If you have to reapply next year I have no doubt you will be accepted. We have the same MCAT score and your GPAs are better than mine so based on that alone I would guess you will get more interviews, especially with a higher MCAT. Still wishing you :luck: for an AZCOM interview this go round though.

Oglesby is too good for that ridiculous school. He will be riding hills with me next year at the greatest medical school in the country: GA-PCOM

Matt, I can imagine this has all been stressful....I know it'll all work out for your BEST, though.

My husband put it quite interestingly: "Not only is the medical school interviewing you, but you are interviewing the medical school. Are they YOUR best? It's a mutual assessment that's being made and if one or the other of the parties doesn't fit, it's probably not the best match for you. Move on."

Hold out for your BEST-matched school! 😀 Good luck! :luck:

Matt, honestly I think you can do a lot better than that school. Not that it won't be a good school but it's too new and has no reputation. Do they have fin aid setup yet? If you study hard for the MCAT and apply early it will open up many doors for you. I think you wanted to goto NSU and I have no doubts that if you bump that MCAT up and apply on time you'll get an interview there. Nova is a very popular choice b/c of the location so applying early will be important.
