I hope this is the right place to put this; I am a pre-med post-bac student looking for a MD or DO to shadow in the Jacksonville,FL area. I have tried and tried with no luck to find someone, I am very passionate about medicine and would love to get to see as much as possible. I am interested in Peds, EM, Family, and Cardio, however, any help would be great!!!

Make contact with the local medical society (or branch of AMA) in that locale. Most medical societies will be happy to help you find someone to shadow. It doesn't matter what specialty you "think" you are interested in, shadow any physician who is willing to take the time to provide this service.

yes I know that take it where I can get it, which is why I put anything would help, just want to get out there anyway I can-thanks for the advice.🙂

Have you tried talking to your school's Pre-Health office? I know my school helps us out with finding shadowing opportunities.

if they had any clue what was going on that I am sure would help, but they just switched pre-med advisor people and the new guy has less of a clue than me, its no good🙁

This is what I did: went straight to the phone book and called primary care physicians (start with them b/c after shadowing them, they can provide you with connections to other specialities). If secretaries won't call you back, drop off letters directly to offices by hand with a little blurb about you and your resume. Also, see if you can find a direct e-mail address to a Dr. This was the best way for me and every doctor that I emailed let me shadow them (just sound passionate and really interested and they'll have a hard time saying no). Also, don't ask if you can shadow full-time, doctors probably don't want you around for that long of a time-period so they'll say no. Ask if you can come in for a half afternoon and go from there.
