I was wondering if anyone here or anyone you guys know personally who retook several classes (because of low grades) and successfully were accepted to programs. Since I'm retaking a few classes that I earned C's in during my undergraduate career, I've been on the nervous end about my likelihood for getting accepted in the upcoming cycle. I know GPA is a very strong component for the admission boards' decisions, so I just was searching for some reassurance that I might be okay.

Besides that, I'm going to make sure I get some kickass LOR's, attain a variety of observation hours, and do well on my GRE.

Thanks!

A lot of people have retook classes. What you need to do is research the schools that you are interested in and make sure they count the highest grade instead of averaging them. Also check into schools that weigh the last 60 hours heavily and make sure your last 60 are excellent. There is rarely a candidate without weaknesses in their application.

I pretty much had to retake everything! In my case, being further removed from the first takes helped. But second chances do exist. Some schools are friendlier to them than others, but generally I feel that PT schools don't get hung up on retakes. Just get an A on retakes. In my mind, it's inexcusable to get less if you are serious about getting the second chance.

I retook a good number of classes and steered my applications toward schools that only counted the highest repeated grade. Because of this my pre-req gpa was anywhere from a 3.5-3.8 (instead of a 3.17) for those schools and I ended up receiving four invites to interviews, plus a phone interview, and two acceptances (so far). This was my second cycle applying, so it is very possible.

Hi emespt, Do you mind sharing which schools you applied, which one you accepted. I am in the same situation, i will be repeating some pre-reqs this summer.

Does anyone know for retake pre-requisite classes, and if you apply to a school that looks at the last 60 credits, if those retake classes would be included in those last 60 credits?

hopefully that doesn't sound too redundant!

Applied: AT Still, Franklin Pierce, Howard, Marymount, Midwestern University - Glendale, NYU, Nova Southeastern, Touro Nevada, UAB, University of Jamestown, South Alabama, FIU, Lynchburg, MCPHS, UMES
Interviews: University of St. Augustine, MCPHS, NYU, University of Maryland Eastern Shore (declined), Marymount (declined)
Acceptances: University of St. Augustine, MCPHS, Franklin Pierce, NYU

I applied to a lot..but only applied to the most of the ones in AL/FL because they were close by. Not because I thought I would get in lol. But most of these take the highest repeated grade. I wasn't really asked about my retakes at any of the interviews except NYU, because it looked like I kept jumping between schools throughout my undergrad years. Which was because of dual enrollment, summer classes, and then retakes all taken at a college in my hometown instead of taking all of my classes at my main college.

I sent my application in at the beginning of October, but I recommend getting it submitted as soon as you can. And just be aware that Howard's program may still be on probation.
