Are there programs out there which are more focused towards international health? I know you can choose to do some international electives in residency, however, are there specific programs in IM which are geared towards international focus? If so, can someone please list them or provide a website where I can find more information about them? Thank you!

Yes...there are some. The one that springs immediately to mind is U of Minn. I know there are others out there. Look for places that have an MPH program as well (Google is your friend).

university of minnesota ( excellent international health focus)
Mayo Clinic ( you'll have to do the running work- Mayo will fund your travel though and give you a stipend which is great)
? UCSF
? Michigan ( esp with Dr Kolars going there)

Brown has a well established international health program in the Dominican Republic and Kenya...I think they have more programs but those are the most popular ones

UPitt & UPenn both have global health tracks. Yale has an international health elective that's funded. Brigham has a Global Health Equity & IM track.

UCSF>>> Mayo...
Every year we take 1-4 residents from UMKC. So you really have a chance if you like..
