I'm unsure of what to do, any help?

I'm a sophomore psychology major. I'm unsure if I should either graduate on time and then do a post bac, or graduate a year later and squeeze in my sciences? My gpa is bad, 2.7 overall, and I'd kind of like to retake some of the classes I got C's in to improve my gpa and then once I graduate, focus on my pre-dental classes. Any advice?

If you cant get As in junior and senior year, retaking classes wont make a big difference b/c dental schools look at your overall gpa first. I had 2.9-3 gpa after I finished undergrad. retook classes close to 60 credits with all As and had a high DAT score but dental schools wouldnt give me a chance. doing a masters right now.

well I've figured out that I can either retake classes, graduate having a 3.3 overall gpa, and then do a post bac. the plus to doing this would be having a brand new post bac gpa along with an average undergrad gpa. I could get a 3.3 if i squeeze in my pre dental work as well, but if i dont get in, i'd have to do a masters which i dont really want to do. what do you think?

I would stay in, retake those classes and your pre-reqs before you graduate. However, you should do some calculations to make sure that if you do this, you will be able to pull your gpa up high enough.

If you can really pull your GPA up to a 3.3, than do that. Be aware though that the way AADSAS calculates a GPA isn't always the same as schools. AADSAS inlcudes every grade for every course, repeated or not, into the GPA. Most schools drop the low grade from the calculation after you've retaken it. Make sure you're figuring it the AADSAS way.

I did not retake classes I got a C in. I just did better and schools liked seeing a upward trend of grades. If that is not there, then a masters isn't the end of the world if you want to be a dentist.

I would say instead of retaking basic/intermediate level courses, take the highest/most advanced level course and ace it.

Earning a C and an A in Bio II doesn’t look quite as good as a C in Bio II followed by an A in something like Medical Pathophysiology.
