Impact of chain pharmacies on the pharmacy profession

I wonder what % of pharmacists are currently employed by CVS/Walgrees/Rite aid/Grocery store chains/Costco/etc.

Sounds legit. Smaller chains and independents still allow for adequate staffing and time with your patients. And the big boys are cutting staffing to the bone and then some. If my small chain ever goes under, I'm running for government rather than signing up with CVGreenAid.

There is an independent near me that I would guess does 400-500 scripts on a very busy day. They employ 8 full time pharmacists. 8. Every time I’ve walked in there I’ve seen 3-4 pharmacists on duty, along with an intern or two, and a couple techs. Chains can’t compete with their service and patient care because the chains refuse to staff anywhere like this.

I’d think less hospital rph and more independent practice rph... According to ncpa, there are as many independent pharmacies as chains. Obviously chains employ waaaay more rph because they operate with longer hours etc.... i am not too sure abt 1/3 of rph going Hospital route, at least not from my graduating class, simply not enough hospitals to employ this quantity...
