I am somewhat alarmed after googling my name. Although my publications, awards, poster presentations, even volunteerism come up, so does a slew of blogs etc not at all related to me. These bloggers naturally have the same name as me but some of these blogs have questionable content.

For example, there is one blog by some Emo Kid talking about some girl who dumped him and how his heart is like a broken flower or something blah blah blah bla😴

I'm thinking about making an entire blog dedicated to clarifying which google search items belong to me and which don't.

MY QUESTION: is it worth the effort of making a blog and getting it listed on googlesearch for the purpose of clarifying that EmoPunk kid isn't me. If ADCOMS are googling applicant names then I'll do it so help me god.

I talked to one of my friends about it, and he had assumed, all this time, that the blog WAS mine.

puff puff pass....

puff puff pass....

HEY. i am trying to pass. TAKE IT.

that sucks. (un)luckily my name is original and everything i've ever done on the internet is all easily available.

don't make a blog because of it. blogs are, for the most part, not mature.

I just googled my name and apparently I'm already an MD. I'm a neurologist from Birmingham, AL. I guess I don't need to be here.

I think the adcoms will understand that many people in the US have the same name and use the internet. I would definitely not create a blog for that purpose.

I just googled my name and some douche created myspace under my name, age, location. I don't think it's a coincidence since my last name and first name are one of those rare names that people who named me had to make it up.

lol I can see it now:

Interviewer: So, do you run the blog, slitmywrists4life?
Cramster: I was afraid this would come up.
Interviewer: Interesting.
Cramster: No, I mean, I um, I had goog...
Interviewer: So, why do you want to be a doctor?
Cramster: No, that really isn't...
Interviewer: You don't want to be a doctor?

RELAX!!!!

Fortunately, both my first and last names are extremely rare. No one's finding anyone but me with those names.

I honestly don't think adcoms are going to believe that every person on the internet with your name is you. But if you're that worried, why not buy google adspace? The "Sponsored links" so that whenever someone searches your name, the first link is you saying something like, "Hello, adcoms! I wanted to make everything easy for you, so click here for all relevant links to THIS [full name]."

I dunno. I knew someone who job hunted that way (sorta) and it worked out for him.

But again, I REALLY doubt it'll be an issue.

Has anyone ever heard of adcoms googling some applicant's name? Or is this just paranoia?

I deleted myspace that I had a good 5 years ago but it still shows up when I type my name with picture and all the cussing and weird descriptions and everything hahah. anyone know how to get that off? 😳

make sure you really deleted everything related to it. idk about myspace but facebook recently made all public groups open to search engines, meaning even if you have strict privacy settings, your name will come up with what you said on a group's wall 3 yrs ago (imagine your most embarassing group). also, all things you are a fan of are public.

you can delete the old group comments, but it will take a good few months to come off of google. google spider searches the web and caches of the pages last a while.

also, even if you change your facebook name the old name (presumably your real name) will still come up on google.

I DID delete everything about it. I deleted the entire account and now I cant log back in because it says this account does not exist. BUT from the google search i can click on my page and read EVERYTHING on the first main page which...as you can imagine, I was 17 years old and it does not look good at all.

So i am not sure as to what i can do. Am i worrying for no reason or could this literally get me kicked out of med school or not accepted in the first place?

Haha apparently I'm a karate champ.

Unless you have a name like Dorian McSchpetzelhoffin and there's absolutely no way someone else would have it too, I think you'll be okay. Besides, I highly doubt they'll take seriously a myspace page from when you were not even in college yet. No worries, man. 👍

write to myspace. i'm not kidding. tell them to remove your page. i successfully deleted my myspace when i was entering college.

i do have a name like that hahaha =/. I submitted a removal request to google. i hope that works 😳

I went under webmaster tools and requested for removal of the site.

But its still up

Apparently I'm a seasoned runner from Tennessee.

Oh just a heads up, you shouldn't mention that name in some circles. You see, it's my stripper name, and if you mention me around them, you won't be welcome anymore.

No fair! That's my penname! I'll fight you for it!

Same, I'm a doc in Michigan.

Say, this gives me an idea...

sweet I'm a professional with the Dallas Cowboys. Nothing about me comes up unless you google for pages which no adcom would do. My Facebook is pretty friendly anyways though.

I have this same problem. I deleted everything on my profile (including comments) before I "deleted" it but the damn thing is still there. I've been emailing that crapshoot of a website every once in a while for months now but they have yet to delete it. I'm getting the impression that no one actually works at Myspace anymore.

Also, I "virtually married" a girl freshman year in high school and the "wedding certificate" is still online.

Kill me.

Phew, only boring things came up with my name. Except for one college gossip website where someone posted "What's the juice on [my name]?" but thankfully no one replied 😛

I would like to believe that ADCOMs have enough common sense to know that there are multiple people with the same name. However, if you are concerned (particularly if your name is a bit uncommon), I doubt there would be any harm in sending a note to admissions clarifying the situation.

It could be worse. A guy my mom works with legally changed his last name a number of years ago after he got tired of receiving creepy fan mail intended for the serial killer who shared his original name.

In today's society, I seriously doubt and ADCOM would assume it was you unless they could match facts up (age, location, etc).

Fortunately for me, I'm the only person in the world with my name. My last name is popular, but my first name is a slight variation to a semi popular name, that no one else has.

hahahaha this cracked me up  When I was attending to medical school in my home country, one day a friend from another year told me that one of his teacher's (a doctor of course) was named the same as me and apparently looked similar to me. I told him he basically had my future me as his teacher. Funny coincidences!!
