Montefiore last interview date on 1/7. The first few interviews in the week of 12/14 so they could have offered already.

I'm a first year cards fellow interested in interventional. Good luck to all those applying this year. I was wondering if you ever find positions offered to candidates (not from the same institution) out of the match before the December 1 deadline. I have a geographic area I'm hoping to end up in to be closer to home so I wasn't sure if it was worth my PD reaching out early in my second year to see if an interview/out of match offer could happen before the December 1 application season. Thanks in advance for the guidance.

Yes it can be done. If your PD reaches out and your credentials are strong you can get an offer before Dec 1
 
Any input on Lahey MC ?

They seem to offer a two year program with structural in the second year.

Why would PDs be desperate? I would say it's applicants who haven't found a spot yet...
 
Any idea if Boston University has sent out invites or if they already filled?

I guess most of the applicants have matched by now.
Not even sure which programs haven't sent their interviews or still looking for applicants.

Yeah seems like it. Is there any reliable data for past years re: total number of available spots, #applicants, % filled, etc?

I've seen the AAMC ERAS data showing 287, 312, 337, 310, 328 applicants from 2016-2020, but this of course does not include non-ERAS programs, and also no data about spots, filling, etc.

Definitely not most of the applicants. A lot of people i know including myself do not have spots.

If anyone knows of any programs that are still interviewing maybe they can let us know that would be much appreciated.
 
Seemed I heard was up 180 applications that some programs got. Most of them are internally filled so unfortunately a lot will be unmatched this season. I think there are more programs yet to call, we have heard from about 60% of the programs thus far whether filled or interviewing.

Emory still has open spots and sent interview invites today for anyone who is interested.
 
Would completing gen cardiology fellowship on an H1B limit options when it comes to applying to interventional fellowship in the future? Do most programs not sponsor continuing H1B? Should I just opt for J1 if my intention is to do an interventional fellowship?

AMG, AOA, above average step scores, a couple pubs and few ACC abstracts, mid-tier fellowship program in a competitive region, and I think I am a competent first year fellow thus far.

Try to have your application complete by the time you are able apply to programs and that’s generally around mid-November. Programs are usually able to start reviewing applications on Dec 1. Don’t know the timeline for this year but i assume that it will be the same.

So it really depends on how quickly your attendings can submit their letters to ERAS but i would say asking them mid to end of October is reasonable.

I have a PGY7 interventional cardiology spot at a good NY program starting July 2022
I'm looking to swap to a different program in NY only because of locations and living close for STEMI call
My program is a great program with tons of volume, and including a lot of structural cases as well

I am reaching out as part of an effort with SCAI/ACC to get information (via a 3 min survey) from IC applicants about their experience with the IC fellowship match.

Making the IC match experience a match process with universal application will make the process more transparent, fair and favor the applicant over the programs – allowing us to interview at all programs before choosing which is the best fit. It would not take away any opportunity to stay at your home institution.

To make IC a formal match process - and eliminate the rat race that is currently the IC match- we need a 75% majority of IC program directors to agree to this; however, – no concrete data exists on how applicants feel about this idea. Please contribute your opinion (pro or con) and circulate this survey to recent applicants. (If you are applying this cycle - the survey does not apply).

This could be a reality for 2024-2025 cycle!!!! If we move fast and work together & get this out.
