I'm not sure what i'm wearing yet but I was wondering what you bring a long with you. I'm a girl, so is it okay to carry my bag? Do we need to bring some sort of portfolio?

Perhaps you can... GOOGLE IT! :meanie: :meanie:

Ok, I should be nice... 😍

Well, you should wear a conservative suit - either pants or skirt with a blazer. Banana Republic and Ann Taylor are both good places to find a nice suit. If you get one that is not super trendy, you'll be able to use it for a while.

Do girls usually wear suits too? I'm not planning on it. It's going to be hot and I never look good in suits lol.

You are supposed to wear "professional attire" which I believe means a suit. I was quite surprised to see a girl in black pants and a short-sleeved white shirt with ruffles at my interview last week. I didn't wear a "traditional" suit but it was a matching skirt and jacket nonetheless.

I think it will be extremly wise if you wear a suit. Maybe you should go buy a suit and have it altered so that it fits just right. Remember you want to make a great first impression on the adcom. As far as being hot, just make it to the building 20 minutes early so you can cool off. That's what I do for my interviews. I'm from louisiana so I know the secrets to staying cool and looking good in very hot temps. 😛 Good luck!

I dunno, but I dont think "professional attire" necessarily means a suit. Where did you interview last week? Was she the only girl not in a suit?

You may think what you want, but that doesn't change the fact that professional attire is a suit. There are some candidates who don't wear a suit, but they are few and far between, and most of them don't make the cut.

I doubt anyone in the history of pharmacy interviews has ever been denied admission b/c they didnt wear a suit (assuming they were otherwise appropriately attired)

Alright, well i dont know what adcom you're a member of, but I doubt anyone in the history of pharmacy interviews has ever been denied admission b/c they didnt wear a suit (assuming they were otherwise appropriately attired).

You're probably right that they've probably never been denied admission just because they didn't wear a suit. However, the type of individual who wouldn't wear a suit to the interview is more likely to be someone who isn't as detail-oriented and prepared for the interview process. A suit just exudes professionalism, and that's something they WILL evaluate you on. Shortcuts won't get you anywhere.

I interviewed at Howard and yes she was the only one not wearing a suit.

Everyone knows professional attire = suit. duh 😛

Are you excited for the Mercer interview on Oct 8? The SDNers should take a picture together....or something......

Yeah! I'm really excited! I wonder how many other SDNers will be there...hmmm...we should make a code word haha

darn it, i put together a really cute (AND professional haha) outfit, but I dont want to look lazy (even though it took lots of time and shopping to find! lol) SO i went and got a suit today. Now I know I'll have one thing going in my favor!

would a pinstripe suit with a sky blue shirt and a matching skyblue/silver tie be too adventurous?
i'm afraid that skyblue is too bright of a color and may seem informal...although the shirt and tie match PERFECTLY!

While it seems really nice, I think it's usually best to stay on the conservative side. do you have a picture of the suit/shirt/tie?

edit: you can't really see the pin stripes....they are really thin grey ones that you probably wouldn't notice if you were across the room

I think that's a snazzy suit! 👍 I think you could wear that in an interview. You may want to get a second opinion though, but I like!

Edit: I am obviously not on an AdCom, but I do have experience interviewing applicants for jobs, and I'd be impressed if someone came in w/ that suit. 🙂

That suit looks totally appropriate.

I'm sad because I got a nice, expensive suit last winter, but I've gained so much weight I doubt I fit in it. Besides, I had my mom's friend hem the sleeves for me, and she didn't do a great job. My parents will **** a brick though if I try to wear anything but that expensive suit.

You should definently get a new suit. you don't want to be uncomfortable during your interview. I would reccomend NY and Company. That's where I got my suit. It was under 90 dollars, pants and jacket. It might sound expensive, but it's pretty good quality. It was the cheapest (money wise) suit I found for the quality.

I can totally relate to you. I hate gaining any amount of weight (even 2-3 pounds) and don't like it when my clothes don't fit (especially if they were loose before) right. Please don't take this the wrong way, but maybe you could try to lose a few pounds so you look and feel better? That's what I'm trying to do too! 😳

nerv12345.... you're a dude?? 😱

this whole time i thought you were a girl. darn your angel avatar.. :scared:

haha sorry if i got your hopes up :0 :0

anyways...FYI that angel is art associated with singles that my favorite DJ ever pumps out (electronica). represent!

btw thanks for the input everyone

Fit can make or break the way you look. You're going to look sloppy and unprofessional if the suit doesn't fit right.

Totally thought nerv was a girl too; nice how we associated angel with girl. I don't think I've seen anyone get someone's gender right yet on this board.

Easier said than done! 🙂 If I don't have any interviews until February, that should be no problem. If they happen in the next month or two though... time for a new suit!

I love NY&Co, but I've never noticed suits there - just nice pants, no jackets.

I'm the other way around--I got thinner this year, so last year's suit doesn't fit anymore. But shopping for a smaller size was so much more fun than shopping last year. I look and feel much better too, so I would totally suggest trying to lose even a few pounds so you can look and feel more confident!

i had a friend who interviewed at tsu a couple of years back, and she did not dress professionally. i don't think she even wore nice pants or a nice shirt. she went casual becasue she was trying to make a statment that she was bitter against the school for accepting her the year before, but then retracting her acceptance last minute.

anyway, they asked her about why she was not dressed appropriately and what she thinks that says about a person in a professional setting like pharmacy, and she replied that people shouldn't be judged on physical appearance and some people just don't have the means to afford a nice suit (even though that wasn't her case)

she thought she was definitely gonna get rejected and didn't care at that point, but ironically, she got into tsu that same year with her smart alek remarks. now she swears that they like people who stand up for their beliefs and aren't afraid to talk back, cause she had a total attitude problem the whole time!

okay, just a story i wanted to share.

Well that IS an interesting story. I don't think I'll be trying that though.

it seems like alot of people wear dark colors, such as black and navy. you think it would be a problem if i wore grey?

Whats ur opinion on a medium grey suit with pinstripes? Also, is it better to wear a skirt suit or a pant suit????

Should girls wear their hair up or down?

Should girls wear their hair up or down?

I'd say that's a personal preference. As long as it's clean and neatly groomed, the rest shouldn't matter. If I get an interview, I will wear my hair down because that is how I feel most comfortable and I like it best. I definitely wouldn't recommend trying something new before your interview. If you hate it, then it will likely take away important self confidence which you will need in your interview.

Ive been making mental notes at interviews about womens attire:

Almost everyone wears a suit, it can be black, grey, pinstripe, or what not.

Undernearth most people wear collored shirts, ranging from white to colorful to stripped. Personally I perfer colorful. Some people wear knit shirts under, which are also fine I think, though less formal.

I was suprised by how many women wore healed shoes. I personally stayed away from them because I cant walk in them. I went for more of a flat buisness sort of shoe, but most girls had professional shoes with heals, both open and closed toed. Also, pantyhose is good.

Is it better to wear a skirt or pants?

I bought mid-heel pointed shoes.. black..
I'm afraid maybe it's a little too pointy at the end:idea:

personally, i think either would work as long as it looked professional. also keep in mind skirt length.

Thanks. I am wearing a skirt 🙂

Same here. I am returning them 🙂
