INTERVIEWED AT UCLA? this is your thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't gotten my 3/14 letter yet, but does anyone know what percentage of people get taken off the 1st-priority waitlist? or what percentage of the entering class were waitlisted applicants?
how long are you waitlistees planning on holding out until you start making other plans? just some questions for you all to answer🙂

I have no idea how many get taken off the waitlist or what percentage...but I would pray one of them would be me. 🙂
Anyway though...I have resolved to plan to go to Davis...and to hold out until late July on UCLA. I'm not looking to move until then, so we'll see. I'm keeping fingers crossed, but not holding my breath. Good luck everybody.

well, I guess I'm on the waitlist priority 1 list then. T-bruin, that was quick!!! I don't know what to think of it, but hopefully we'll receive some good news later.

I'm on the unranked waitlist too. I think they just looked at my verbal score and said, "I don't know about this guy." I got a seven. I hope we'll get good news too, but it looks like the waitlist is already pretty long.

Waitlisted....
BTW, I don't think it is a bad thing is people were waitlisted after a recent interview. I interviewed on 2/6, and I figure they just pushed to review the majority of applicants who had already interivews ASAP. And if people are right, and there is yet another waitlist, or hold list I should say, then I'm happy to be on this list instead...
Questions:
1) Does anyone know if they sent out any rejections yet? Post or Pre Interview.
2) When do they begin accepting off the waitlist? Only after they have given out acceptance to an entire class?

Count another "waitlist w/o ranking" here. I called last week and they told me they don't start reviewing files again until after May 15th (unlike other schools). Again, are we surprised at their slowness here? It's not like we all have other lives or anything to take care of and make plans for..... +pissed+

T-Bruin, I can't believe they got back to you so fast about a waitlist. I might understand if they accepted an applicant right after their interview, but why would they be in such a rush to put you on their waitlist. All along I've been assuming that at the earliest I would hear something from them 6-8 weeks post interview (which is what they told me) but now I'm freaked out that I could hear from them at any moment. Did they update your status page a few days before you received anything in the mail? By the way, I interviewed on 2/27.

Sorry about all the waitlists folks....but a waitlist is definitely much better than a rejection.

It sounds like quite a few people got in last year, but the waiting is undoubtedly a real killer. I know it should not surprise me with UCLA, but I can't beleive they aren't going to reivew apps again until May15th?? That blows 🙁

So were all of the 3/14 people waitlisted??

I hate to think this, but it kind of looks like they've sent out enough acceptances to fill up the class, and now they're just putting everyone else on the waitlist, which they'll draw from to get more people once people start turning down their acceptances. Does anyone else think this might be what's going on?

hi cipher

i'm afraid you're right, but i'm staying optimistic for all of us...i'm still waiting (1/31) and others are too, so we just have to hang in there.

3/24, was that the date that they would send out more rejections/waitlists?

dirtybob

I havent heard back yet. my hopes and spirit are high! urs should be too.

i asked wether the class is full etc and the answer i got was like

"it doesnt work that way....decisions including acceptances will still be sent later on. havent heard back means u can still cling to ur hopes..."

Did you mean to include this part within the quotes? Did someone at the admissions office actually say something like this or is this just your interpretation?

Untrue. Last year they continued to accept people that they interviewed later in April and even May. Waitlist however was untouched until (well) after May 15th. Good news for those with late interviews, bad news for us waitlistees.

Waitlistees, it seems, are a special class of medical applicants. They are like second class citizens. They're like those guys in pickup basketball that get picked last, unwanted and accepted with great reluctance. The waitlistees don't get second look weekends, they don't get as good a financial aid package, they're ignored until the last minute and they hire higly monotone admission office personel specifically to deal with this "special" group of desparate individuals. 😛 😀

BTW, I still haven't got no letter. Granted I'm out of state and I already know (word by word) what its gonna say but good god! Its been 10 days. I can crawl to LA from where I live in less than 10 days.

as i type this!

so i sent ucla a letter of recommendation from my boss about a week ago. So i called the office to verify that it got added to my file. She said that she cannot access my file because the committee is reviewing it! scary... 😱

i guess it's a good sign? b/c they interviewed me in Nov, so if they wanted to outright reject me, they would have already made a decision already and wouldnt' have to review my file AGAIN, right?

but also, they obviously didn't want to accept me outright b/c if they did, i would have heard about it already.

i hate these guessing games.
so as of now, i think if i'm lucky, i'll get waitlisted..(hopefully not "on-hold")
and if i'm not so lucky, i'll get the rejection letter soon..

Just thought i'd let you guys know the committee is meeting as I type this. So, if you haven't gotten your letter yet, there's a good chance they are reviewing your file.

Oh God, give me the patience and the strength to survive this cruel UCLA-waiting game!

Ok, good luck to you all!!!

eunice

good luck eunice, i hope they're reviewing mine too🙂 Did they tell you when they'll send out the letters?

hey peeps, just got the word from Admissions committee, 40-60% of those in the waitlist (not the hold) get in to UCLA. So we have a chance!!! Also, I'm sorry to tell you guys this, but those of you interviewing late have a higher chance of getting to the waitlist (which as you can see is a pretty good thing) than outright acceptance, seeing that the class is already full, and unless people who get accepted now drop their spots (so Trix, where are you going to go? .😉 those of you interviewing late will get acceptances. I know it sucks, but hopefully it will work out for all of us! take care

Thanks Dr. Don for the stats, those were better than i hoped. i still haven't gotten my 3/14 letter (takes the hamster a freakin' long time to get all the way to michigan) but hopefully it will be a waitlist and not a hold or rejection.

what up sdn peeps,

Sorry about all the waitlisted peeps out there, but I'm sure many of you will get in later. Just to let you know I got a "letter sent" date on my status page for 3/19 and received an acceptance yesterday fedex. I don't think I'm going to accept the offer, so maybe one of your guys will get hooked up. Oh, and I interviewed in late Jan. LAAAAAAAAAAATe

i just got the unranked waitlist letter...'sucks but it's better than a rejection
+pissed+

Congrats EErikson!! Even if you decline it is good to know there is still movement an they are still offering acceptances (crossing my fingers for eunice and moskeeto)....and how special you must be to get a Fed Ex vs. the ole' hamster treatment. Hopefully gongmonkey's has a hat, warm coat and 4 little booties on its way to Michigan. Brrrrrrr!

Is anyone from out of state going to the second visit on April 12? If so, where are you going to stay? They didn't put any info about hosts or anything in the packet.😕

hey guys,

for those of you who are 100% sure you'll be going to ucla, are you still going to go to the revisit weekend? i already decided to attend ucla, but don't know if it's worth it to spend the couple hundred bucks to go. Is there a point to these 2nd looks besides helping you decide on the school to go to?

good luck to all those on the waitlist or still waiting for a decision from them!!

3./19 letter...interesting.

anyways we will see what happens.

congrats xenon on your 3/19 letter! just like EErickson, it has to be an acceptance🙂

yes, congrats XENON! Like dirtybob said, I also sense good things coming your way. I wonder if they're reusing Trix's hamsters for the delivery, or if turbo hamsters, a.k.a Fed-Ex, are the standard now. Maybe they want to make sure accepted people have enough time to plan for the second look weekend. BTW, did your status page just change, showing 3.19 today, or has it been that way since 3.19? I'm really hoping to have something show up on my status page soon.

wow, good luck XENON-RAMZ, i hope your letter has better news than mine did, and it sounds like it will. yep, i got the good ol' HOLD (those bastards!), what sounds like the first in this little forum. so it looks as if i'll be staying in ann arbor🙁 best wishes to everyone else!

awww, man! sorry about that gongmonkey. I wonder why they bother with the hold list, if they don't use it too much, like they claim. at least you didn't get a rejection, which they do indeed send out to a few unfortunate souls. and at least you've got michigan to go to. 🙂 best of luck to you!

good luck, xenon.. you started this thread so i hope you get in!

thanks everyone for the support! i hope its a gona be a quick wait.

Hey thanks for crossing your fingers for us Trix, any help, well, helps 😀. My interview is tomorrow and I'm just going into it being happy that I actually have an interview there, I don't know if I have a chance to even get waitlisted, but I think its pretty exciting just interviewing at UCLA. I've been down here for a couple of days and I spent ALL day at Disneyland yesterday and I'm beat.
I did come up with a really lame idea yesterday tho, I'm going to mail myself two letters tomorrow, one from on campus at UCLA and another from the closest mailbox off campus that i can find and see which one gets to Davis faster. I want to see where the hamsters actually come into play, if its from campus mail or the fine folks at the LA post office. I know I'm dumb, but its not like I have any other reason to run to the mailbox everyday 🙂.

I think you should save this idea in case you want to do a research project 😀

You definitely still have a chance to get in, so wow 'em during your interview!! And, of course, let us know how it goes and what your thoughts are about their program when the day is over.

GO! MOSKEETO GO!

good luck moskeeto!!! I hope you come out with some good news🙂

any updates on when they'll be sending out a new bunch of letters, hopefully not rejections?

Has UCLA sent out any post-interview rejections yet? Or just acceptances and wait-lists?

All outside factors removed, considering the school alone, I think I may rather go to UCSF, but I really want to move back to LA, and the difference between the two schools is very small from what I can tell. I know I will get a great education at both places, so other factors make a huge difference.

I also spent the majority of my life in Southern California and after this year in Europe (=really, really cold!!) and I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to SoCAL weather.

Overall I think you're right Trix. The schools seem about the same, and that makes the other factors much more important. How's hubby's job search coming?

Hey Moskeeto, how did your ucla interview go? What was your impression of ucla?

I interviewed 2/11 and I just got a big envelope in the mail from UCLA today!

Just kidding... April Fool's!! 😉 I'm still waiting for my final decision letter like everyone else.

ugh, I've been trying not to talk about my interview. It didn't go well at all and was by far the worst I've had. My interviewer was a nice guy and probably a really good doc from what I could see, but we just didn't click and I think I made a babbling idiot out of myself. It was a bad day from the beginning, I overslept, my train was early and I got there in time to chase after it as it zipped away, my interviewer postponed the interview for over an hour, so I missed my flight, missed getting home in time to see Steven Hawking which I've been looking forward to for about a 8 months, when we did actually did do the interview I had to walk with him and a patient to the hospital and then sit in a random and VERY uncomfortable room in the hospital for the interview, my taxi was 40 minutes late, at the airport I dropped my full cup of soda all over my suit and flooded my tacos just as they quit serving food. theres more, but I already feel like a baby whining this much😀.

As for the good stuff, I REALLY liked the campus and my student interviewer was great. I don't know how the student interview itself went, but the student was really cool, the best I've talked too so far, so that was nice.
So far the "hamster test" is going as planned, I received the USPS mail yesterday and no sign of the letter mailed via campus mail yet. sorry for the long post and thanks for the support guys/gals, its nice.

Haha, what a great name to post on this thread under, chibihamsta! Do you work for the USPS? 😉

hey Moskeeto,
gosh, it sounds like a horrible day!! not just the interview (which I'm sure wasn't as bad as you think it was) but the whole day sounds just horrible. I feel so bad for you! especially about spilling the soda, that must have really ticked you off after all the mishaps thru the day. arg...
but look on the bright side... if the interviewer was NOT a nice guy, he could have been really mean to you and made the day even worse! and you could have not had a student interview, like me. i just had one interview. and i'm sure the positive impression you made on the student interviewer will help you out!

cheer up~. Even if you don't get into ucla, it's really not the end of the world. that's what i've been telling myself these days.. WHY do i want to go there so badly anyway? sunny weather? USNews ranking? i'm sure it's not all that if i actually end up going there, right?
haha... i'm all ready for that rejection letter... bring it, hamster!
gosh.. it'll take extra long for the hamster to trek out to NJ.... sigh

anyways... i'm sorry Moskeeto that you had a bad day, but your days can only get better, right? 🙂

and to all of you, good luck to you all!
i hope many of us get in thru the april acceptances!

moskeeto 🙁
i was so sad to read your post! i'm sorry you had such a crappy interview day at ucla. these things happen, ya know? and it's too bad when they happen at schools like ucla, but i try to believe that things happen for a reason. at least you have gotten your one bad interview over with. it is only uphill from here. you will ROCK your ucdavis interview!! sometimes these things are out of our control, and sometimes they're not quite as bad as we think -- let's hope that is the case with your ucla interview.

hey thanks eunice and lola 😀.

I'm not too upset about the interview, I was just really happy to even be interviewing there, I had a good time just being there no matter how bad I think it went. It kept reminding of when I was a fifth grader in Oklahoma and the day I figured out what UCLA stood for, I was one proud little monkey. I don't know why I remember figuring it out or why thats even a big deal, or hell, why it took until I was in fifth grade, but it was fun to reflect on everything thats kind of happened in my life since then. I think thats the biggest part of the application cycle, the whole self reflection that we're forced to do. Its a good time. The thing I'm most bummed out about is missing Stephen Hawking. But on a cool side note, while I was down there I went to Disneyland and while I was there, my gf called to tell me that Steven Hawking had just come into her work and ordered a cappucino and was in the bathroom. Thats not really an everyday thing 🙂. and my grandfather got to go see Hawking speak and I'm glad because he really likes him, who knows I may get another chance to see him, but its not likely that my grandfather will. anyhoo, thanks for the good thoughts and I'll be sure to try to kick ass at my Davis interview to make up for it.

Wow, I wondered why you hadn't posted to the thread in a couple of days. Sorry about all of the mishaps. It sounds as if the actual interview portions of the day actually went quite well, but interviewing is stresssful enough without all of the extenuating drama you had. Especially sorry you missed Stephen Hawking, but it is really nice that your grandfather got to see him.

And... if it makes you feel better, I dumped a cup of coffee on my suit at UCSF, only it was before the interview. I felt like piglet the entire day.

Good luck on your UCD interview! When is it?

hey guys, ucla has been my dream school for so long now. i interviewed so long ago (nov. 15) and found out a couple days ago that they just sent a final decision letter (3/31). i'm thinking this can't be good news since it's been so long and nobody else has been posting updates lately. i'm thinking this is not part of an acceptance batch. oh well, i'll let y'all know once i get it.

I would think that it's a good thing that nobody else has been posting updates lately. Last time everyone got a mailing at the same time, it wasn't such great news. Yes, keep us posted on the news, which will hopefully be good! I'm still waiting on a final decision letter.

hey you!
i haven't talked to you in a while... how are you?

dont' give up hope! as for me.. i feel like ucla has been my dream school for a long time too.. but recently i started wondering.. WHY? i really don't know much about the school and all that i've seen of the school was on the day of my interview. I don't know how the culture or the people are like in the west coast, etc.

and last night, i went to this accepted students mixer thing at RWJ med school, and I really like this school! Granted, I WOULD LOVE to go to UCLA, but i'm not as anxiously waiting for it as I was before.. i think I'd actually be quite happy at RWJ med school, although i'll be stuck in NJ for the next 4 years. haha. maybe God's preparing me for a rejection, but I've been stressing less and less about UCLA.

well, good luck, kid!!! i really hope it's an acceptance! If not, i hope it's a waitlist! i'm sure they wouldn't reject you.. you are top material!

eunice! first time talking to you on SDN, haha. UCLA is my top choice for many reasons, with cost and it being close to home as being the big two. i guess those two don't exactly apply to you. =( ahh, the wait is killing me, but i'll let you know how it goes. take care, and don't work too hard in lab!

GOOD LUCK Zer0el and Xenon Ramz, hope that you guys receive good news from the hamster🙂

it was bad news guys, got the rejection today (post-interview). hope all of you fare better with ucla.

Sorry zer0el...that really sucks. 🙁

tell us how ur interview was zer0el

Awww, zer0el, that sucks. I'm sorry about that. 🙁
