Wow, you sound very mature about getting your hold letter, Eunice. You've been waiting practically forever. I remember way back last Oct. when we were just getting our UCLA interviews and worrying over one aspect or another of the process. Best of luck at RWJMS!

Today I received my letter from UCLA! I'm not exactly sure what they are trying to tell me, but I'm pretty sure they really want me to be there! Woohoo!!! There's just a little part of the letter that's a bit confusing. Maybe you all can help me figure it out:


"Your application, therefore, has been placed in a HOLD category, which is our second priority wait list. Candidates from the HOLD list, are unranked, and will not be considered for vacancies int he class before July."


Well too bad for them! I'm going elsewhere! Hopefully one of you lucky people can get my spot! Good luck!

are we supposed to hear from UCLA before may 15 about a decision?
 
hey fellow UCLA waitlistees...
well....may 15th is approaching.

sounds like lots of people are holding onto UCLA and some other acceptance (mainly other UCs, or their own state school, or some top 10). and based on what people have said in past years about UCLA----there will probably be lots of people taken off the waitlist. and in a few weeks it should all get moving!!

ack! i'm excited...hopefully we'll start getting some good news. good luck to those of you still waiting to hear back post-interview.

I am so happy for you!!...not that UCLA put you on hold, but that you made a decision. It's a good feeling to get rid of all the "what if?" crap involved in this process, and to move on with your life and start getting ready to become a doctor-the important part.

for those on the first priority waitlist... i called the office today and was told:
* that there are a bit over 100 people on the list (and it is constantly changing)
*there will be absolutely no movement until june (when they will start allocating spots that have oppened)
*movement will continue until the first day of class in aug depending on availability of spots.

i know this is info that can be inferred or found on old threads but i thought it might be helpful since it pertains to this year. good luck!😀
 
she didn't mention when those of us still waiting for a decision would know, did she? Already over 100 people, that sucks. I hope people start hearing some good news soon.

can someone like call (im not in the US) and actually ask what the SIGNIFICANCE of not having an answer is while others had from all categories of answers....?
 
I'm sure they'll just tell you that your file hasn't been reviewed yet.
 
All they told me was, "no decision has been made." Duh. Though they did say something would be sent by 5/15.
 
actually i asked her if it was possible to remain decisionless past the 15th and she said yes.

again my request for someone to call and ask about hte significance of still waiting for a decision. i know for sure the files have been looked at.
 
Really, Xenon? She told me something "for sure" by the 15th. Hrmph, we shall see.

I don't know how many of you have made it through that epic UCLA thread from last year that we're writing the sequel to, but someone there posted about getting an outright acceptance in July (maybe 7/3?) after not hearing anything post-interview. I thought they were improving on their system by guaranteeing responses by 5/15, but maybe not. Aaaaaaargh.
+pissed+ I have never ever used this smiley before. (I believe Nefertari used this smiley too for the first time too in reference to UCLA. Can't be a coincidence, losing our computer crashing virginity to the same place...)

On a separate note, we appear poised to surpass UCSF's thread in terms of number of posts. Woohoo! And we're only just getting started with waitlist talk. Come on guys, let's chase them some more!
 
yea i know i saw that on last year's. the late direct acceptance. anyways can someone call to ask specifically about us who r still waiting...
 
I have a feeling there is going to be a mass mailing of rejections/holds around this time next thursday.

u ppl wont help ughhh. ok i called and i found out that i wasnt on the next acceptance group.

i also found out that i will either be waitlisted, hold or rejected.


i hope i wont be rejected.

anyways i hope i get on the alternate list.
 
why do they bother making a hold list at all, if everybody on that list don't make it?
 
i think they r seperate cetegories, tho if u wana be honest, they r both like essentially the same when it comes to chances
 
actually....from what i've heard the UCLA "hold" list is sort of like there 2nd tier waitlist, and the "unranked" list is their 1st tier waitlist....
 
Is the UCLA phone number the one that's on the admissions website? No one ever answers, or I just get some weird beeps but no message.

I do have Deanna's #, but have long ago put away my UCLA stuff, so I'll try to dig it up for you when I get home. When it's busy, I don't think they answer the main line.

I just wanted to wish all of you on the dreaded waitlist good luck! I was in your place this time last year and the waiting was torture!!! I hope that the list starts moving soon and that this torture will end soon for many of you! As for me, my waiting lasted until the Friday before classes started. I called the admissions office and was told that since school was starting that Monday, that there was essentially no chance that I would get in. So that was it, the waiting was over. I could get back to contemplating what else I could do with my life besides medicine. The day school started, I got the call. I'm now finishing up my first year here at UCLA. Good luck to all of you!

Wow! I remember reading @ your saga from last year's thread. It must have been hair-pulling torture! Could you please tell us if you were told later in the summer @ your standing on the waitlist? You must have been the absolute last person pulled off. That's wonderful it's worked out for you!

Oh yeah, admissions office claims, "Lots of decision letters will be sent in the next few weeks." And "Oh sure! Acceptances are still possible." So, I think 5/15 is being thrown out the window. 😡

The only thing I was ever told was that there were between 100 and 200 people on the waitlist and that the waitlist was unranked. I'm not sure how many people were pulled off the waitlist last year, but I was the last one.

hey nefertari, I don't think that last year UCLA had two different lists for the waitlist (1st and 2nd). Can someone check last year's thread? I think everyone who didn't get rejected post-interview was put on THE waitlist. Therefore I'm assuming that if Dr. barb was put on a waitlist this year, then she would have been put on the first priority rather than the second one, as a result she got in off the waitlist. Just my opinion, although I could be wrong.

As a side note. I've been talking to some med students from UCLA and one of them got in two years ago-OFF THE WAITLIST- on MAY 17th! so although the admissions office said we won't hear anything until June (that's what they told him too) WE JUST MIGHT! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
 
Has anyone seen the new hospital at UCLA? Supposedly construction is under-budget and ahead of schedule and will be finished in time for our class (2007) when we hit the wards. This hospital is dubbed to be the most technologically advanced medical center in the world. UCSF used to be my top choice, but now with the new curriculum & new hospital, I'm starting to lean toward los angeles. I'm native to SoCAL, and being away this year I'm starting to really miss the weather.

The other thing is that I'm accepted to UCLA and wait-listed at UCSF. I suppose that makes me biased. :laugh: But you know, UCSF is definitely not my first choice any more, so I never wrote them a first-choice letter of intent. And since my family is in SoCAL and my best friend from college just got accepted into UCLA (and is going), I may withdraw from UCSF pretty soon. We'll see what happens, they should be cherry-picking from the wait-list any day now.

I don't post so often, but I've really enjoyed reading all the posts on these message boards. I look forward to meeting my fellow SDN'ers next year at medical school (wherever that may be...!)

I'm new to student doctor, but have been catching up on the last couple of months of this thread and also read last year's saga...Damn it's depressing.
BArb, I also read your story of success last year....pretty cool man.

Well, I know you guys don't want to hear this but add me to the forever-growing "priority" waitlist.
 
Well, after speaking with someone in the admissions office last week I was under the impression that those of us who hadn't heard anything post interview would hear something by May 15th, so I'm holding out hope that by the end of this week all of our status pages will finally be updated.

If anyone gets a status page update in the next couple of days, please let us all know.
 
****, it still says transcripts requested on my status page. WTF!?!? other than that, no change.
 
mine said transcript requested too.. until i called and they told me they were waiting for updated transcripts from the jc i attended during hs.. 🙄 i had to let them know that i haven't gone there in four years and they weren't going to get an updated transcript.. my status changed by the end of the day.

my theory on not hearing yet is that after 5/15 when more spots open up, they will look at our apps first, decide what to do with us, AND THEN look at the people on the waitlist. i sure hope my theory is right.. in that case i'd be glad to wait a couple more weeks.
 
hey guys, just wanted to let you know that if I get into my east coast waitlists, I will be giving up my spot at UCLA...here's to hoping we'll all end up happy!
 
I wana correct any misunderstandings in my thread about UCLA


here is the heirarchy for decisions:

1. ADMITTED
2. ALTERNATE
3. HOLD

no one is rejected post interview. the person who was...that was so odd???????? i think it was just isolated.

ALL SCHOOLS ARE WAITING TO SEE HOW THE MOVEMENT GOES POST MAY 15... LAST MINUTE HOPE EXISTS
 
So...a small update. I called yesterday to find out if they had recieved an additional letter of recommendation, and got a bit of info out of them.

They said that they will start reviewing the priority WL on the 15th (yesterday), and that we will start to hear from them on or around June 1st. I can hardly believe it!! I am just excited to have them reviewing me once again (pretty sad really). THey said that they will be sending letters out for people taken off the list early (just like last year) but you will know that you are getting a letter by a change in you status page. So, any change in you "letter sent" day=acceptance!! Guess we will all go back to checking our status daily.

Any news on the people who haven't heard anything yet? Did you get in, placed a a Waitlist, Hold list, whatever??
 
no change on my status. Its been 7 weeks exactly today since my interview. hopefully you get some stellar news in a couple of wks cchieb.
