It would be interesting to know the stats of you guys who are getting to top notch interview Penn, mgh, Wash U. Also did you have step 2 scores availble?

Only applied to Wash U in that group. I haven't taken Step 2, Step 1 224, published in research, average grades, good LOR's and PS (maybe)

From what I can gather from old 2004 posts, next week we should expect to hear from:

Northwestern
St. Lukes
Georgia
Dukie
Cornell
Mt. Sinai
UPenn
Case
Kentuky
Wake Forest (USPS)

And as for Rejections, those started really rolling in strong at the end of October (3 weeks from now).

So far:

Oklahoma
SLU
UTSA
UTMB
UAB
Maryland
Scott and White
UNM
Wash U

Glad to see so many are getting offers.

I'm curioius -- how many interviews are people planning on going on?

I'm hoping that 10 anesth and 10 prelim/Ty will be enough, because I don't think it would make sense ranking more than that. I applied to 41 in total (don't ask...)

Have any of you received "we've got your application and will be reveiwing it..." and have subsequently gotten an interview? What was the lag time?

I got one of those for UF within a couple of days of submitting my stuff. Took them a week or so to send out an invite. I guess Medical College of GA did the same thing as well and it took them longer, like 3 weeks to give me a thumbs up.

Got an email from Colorado several days ago that said they won't begin looking at apps till after the MSPE comes out...said it will be mid Nov. when they get back to me.

Thanks for doing that, sleepytime 👍 Really wanting to hear from Northwestern!

THanks No Oxygen - that's really reassuring!

So far:

Accepted invites: SLU, Wash U, UNM, Oklahoma, UTHSCSA, UTSW, UAB, Vanderbilt, UF, VCU, UVa

Cancelled/Declined invites: UTMB, Baylor, Scott & White, U of Louisville, Emory, Mayo in Jacksonville, CCF, Ohio State, Case Western, MUSC, Medical College of GA

Still waiting to hear from 2 more that I'm very interested in and planning to cancel the rest. Seems that I also fell victim to the collective fear and applied to many more programs than I should have.

Hmm, you seem to have declined some pretty great programs. How come?

Chicamedica,

Most of the ones that I've declined are because of geography or quirks about their particular cities that I'm not a huge fan of. For example, all the Ohio schools would've been on my back-up list if the invitations were very slow to come in, but luckily I haven't had to fall back on them. I hope I didn't just jinx myself by saying that though.

i forgot to update my interview invites

so far: URochester, UMass, NY med coll, SLU, CCF, UIowa,UFla, SUNY upstate, mercy @pitts
...lol i feel like i'm forgetting one?

Hey think fast, how did you hear from Mercy Pitt?? I'm going there too, what date are you going, do you know yet? How about Upstate, I'll be there on 10/29...you?

heard from them via email...i havent actually set up dates yet at either 🙁 I'll keep u posted when i do.

P.S. anyone here going to use any 'weird' selection criteria? i kinda am thinking that those programs that offer dinner and accomodations the night before are going to be HIGHER on my RoL. ya its a stupid way to look at it, but at the same time I think these programs are putting an 'extra' effort regardless of their true intentions. what are you guys' opinions on this?

89 more posts and this will officially be the most replied to thread in the sdn anesthesiology forum.

btw, think, how did s2 go? Hopefully well.

later

Recent interviews over last couple days: UTSW & Mayo Jacksonville

All together UAB, Emory, Georgia, George Wash, Harbor UCLA, Miami, Mayo Jacksonville, USC, SLU, San Antonio, UTSW, Vandy, & U wash.

Am I the only one that thinks he/she over-applied? Pretty sure I'm gunna drop Georgia and GW.

Like noodleincident and aredoubleyou, think I also fell victim to the paranoia and severely overapplied...so far, I've got 22 gas and 3 prelm/TY invites.

Accepted: OU, Emory, UF, Rochester, UTHSCSA, UNM, UNC, UVA, UAB, Mayo-Roch, Michigan, Penn State, UTMB, Vandy, Pitt, CCF, Baylor, A&M

Declined: Med College of GA, Arkansas

On The Fence: MMC, VCU, CCF, UNM

I'm struggling with how many of these things I'll need to go on. There are two or three places I'm waiting on that I'd like to see this winter but I realize I'll have to cancel some in order to make room.

Those lucky souls who have received UWash interviews, are you awesome candidates?

Are their interview dates spread out through the season. Any in late dec?

Congrats to all with the recent flurries!

Found this in the AAMC application guide:

Programs cannot view your photograph during their initial evaluation of your application. The photograph is not visible until you have been selected for interview.

Every program I applied to downloaded my photo, does that mean they're all gonna interview me? (I find this doubtfull, I'm not a stellar candidate by any means)

So far:

Med College of Wisc
Penn St
Wayne St
U Michigan
GW in DC
U maryland
UIC
Cleveland Cl.
Case Western
U Pitt.

I think it is great that you are declining/cancelling interviews especially since some of the programs you listed I applied to and haven't heard from them! Seriously, though it is thoughtful of you to decline/cancel early. Thanks

Got my fingers crossed for ya man.

I'm taking my last 3rd yr rotation a little late, and it just happens to be OB/GYN. Tough rotation! It does have the advantage of me watching every single epidural performed in the unit though. Nothing quite gives me the warm fuzzies on this rot. as when I watch the anesthesiologist come in, the patient says "thank god you're here," and the anesthesiologist smiles, pops in an epidural, and signs off with his classic line " there ya go, that should make you a little more comfortable."
GOD, I can't wait to be that guy!

Karate is cool, I wish I could get the accuracy of their foot jabs in my teeps.

How many of you have gotten interviews at University of Washington?

Got some good stats on this forum. SDN always makes me proud, and nervous! 🙂

Is it better if my board score is higher than 240 but my erect penis is 2.23 inches?

Not sure which criteria is more important, this year, anyway...

I do not understand...all of you are getting so many interviews and I have only gotten 3. I am a cute girl 😛 and really want to pass gas, but I am worried that nobody likes me/>?? DO they see our pictures before the interviews??

Raw 😍

Do you think not having Step II yet is hurting me?

I havent yet heard from: Mayo-Jax, Wake (except for form letter), Duke, UT-SW, Penn, Columbia, Cornell, MGH, BID, B&W, UCSF, Stanford, Colorado, Arizona, Yale, Dartmouth,

Interviews at: Oklahoma, SLU, UAB, Florida, Vandy, UVA, Hopkins

Negative responses from: Emory (no outright rejection).

I attribute some of it to this being a super-competitive year, but Im also a DO, havent taken Step II yet and only have two LOR's. However, my Step I is 258 USMLE, 757 COMLEX, 3.96 GPA, first author on a submitted paper, good EC's...what more can I do?

Humbly yours.

edit: I know that those are all pretty competitive programs, and Im sure Im not the only one going through this. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

edit #2: as far as the photo thing goes, all the programs that d/l my stuff have my photo, and in many cases it was the first thing d/l'ed. I dont think that rule about 'only if interview offered' really holds.

Except for UTSW, Mayo-Jax and Columbia, no other programs on your list have sent out interviews.

Yeah, I guess you are right. I didnt read all the new posts, just wanted to vent a little. I mean, I likely wouldnt be able to go to Boston/NYC/SF anyway (which takes out 8 or so choices), but Id like the chance to make that decision myself.

Just stressing, obviously.

Good luck all.

Idio,
Don't know what the problem is, you have awesome "screening criteria"!
I am sure you will be deluged soon.

Howdy all! Joining the thread kinda late (been studying my butt off for Step 2...still haven't taken it!):

Interviews and Dates Going:

Penn State: Nov 10-11
GW: Nov 19
Columbia: Dec 2
Georgetown: Dec 9
CCF: Dec 12
Vandy: Dec 19

If anyone is gonna be at these sites on these days, let me know! 😀

Still waiting on all the Texas programs, UAB, Emory, UNC, Duke, Cornell, Sinai, UVA...Has anyone heard from any Texas programs yet or is the south just slow (I'm allowed to say that, I'm from Louisiana)?

The only one I've heard from was UT San Antonio about two weeks ago. Hope that helps.
