Iowa State C/O 2025 Hopefuls

Yes I was sent a scholarship offer contingent on me accepting my offer of admission. I was pulled off of the alternate list too!
Was there separate information regarding financial aid, like apart from your letter of acceptance? Because the letter of acceptance I received is asking to apply for financial aid (and that the deadline is 3/1/21). Of course, I already did that. But it didn’t come with any info regarding financial aid—whether loans or scholarships. Just wondering if that’s the normal letter of admissions template everyone receives before obtaining more information regarding their personal student status? šŸ˜…

They will go over financial aid with you at orientation I believe! You'll be able to accept/reduce/decline your loans through Access Plus (the school's administrative system where you see tuition breakdown, register for classes, etc.). I don't think I was able to do that until closer to the start of the school year though, so I wouldn't worry about it just yet. If you do have more immediate questions about financial aid you can always reach out to Kathy and she should be able to connect you with the vet med financial aid liasons.

Do first years receive any scholarships before classes start? I know on the website it says you apply in the winter for the next year but I was wondering about incoming students.
I got an email today about being awarded an entrance scholarship and I didn’t apply to anything (also international student so didn’t think id be eligible for any) keep your eyes on your email!

Was this your admissions email or isu email? I haven’t set up my access plus account yet.

Congrats on your scholarship!

There are also many opportunities to get scholarships once the school year starts. One example is that in the spring there is a "OneApp" application that Iowa State has where you fill out an app with essays for several scholarships you're eligible for on the same platform. Super helpful so you don't have to keep track of a bunch of different applications. Make sure you fill out FAFSA by the deadline every year so that you can be as eligible for those as possible!

Thank you so much for answering these questions! 😺 This was was definitely helpful and provided some relief. šŸ˜…

Current students: were any of you offered more than one scholarship? I was given a small entrance scholarship (anything helps so I am super grateful for it) but I was wondering if anyone has received more than one?

I wasn't given more than one when entering vet school, but that's not to say that other people weren't. There's always a chance for you to get other scholarships during the year (i.e. through the OneApp thing I mentioned in another comment). A bunch of us also got grants recently to help pay for 4th year since we have to pay for the summer term so it's possible to get more!

Hello! Just wondering if anyone knows if the class of 2025 was fully seated yet? Has anyone heard anything at all about the next alternate to be called?

There are only 125 students in the facebook group, but I haven't heard where they are at on the waitlist! I would message Kathy via the portal to find out!

DeNae has been answering me and not Kathy on the portal. She told me on Friday May 21st that they currently have 4 seats to fill the class. The next alternate would be #166. Today she said that the next alternate to be notified if a position opens is #168.

From what she said, it sounds like the class is full? Did the dean say anything to those that have gotten accepted that the class is full?

Hello and congrats on getting accepted to ISU! I was a vet student at ISU and I know many of you will be looking for housing for the fall. Many students buy a trailer in old orchard. I am moving to another country to attend a different vet school and have to sell my trailer which is located in old orchard. Please message me if you are interested or know anyone else that may be interested! I can send you photos and give you more information! Also if you have any questions about the DVM program I would be happy to answer!

I didn't see anything from the dean stating the class is full yet. I know someone who accepted their seat but got into their in-state so I guess its possible that another seat is opening up! If I hear anything about the class being full, I will reply to your post!

Thank you for answering me and for letting me know! Your info is appreciated!

Kathy surprisingly answered me yesterday and told me that they are on #170 on the waitlist. Right now there is one spot open!

I just wanted to say, we haven’t had any updates regarding the class is full yet. Best of luck, #FutureDogtor!

Hi everyone! Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the class being full, or if you know of anyone removing themselves from the class. Thank you so much!

We haven't heard any news, I think you are allowed to contact admissions 1x a week to ask about your status. I actually got pulled off of a different waitlist recently (I am still going to ISU), so it is not impossible! Sending you good vibes!!!!!

Good luck everyone! This is my second time applying to Iowa state. I got waitlisted last cycle and never called off so fingers crossed this time!
R u IS or OOS? Can I ask your gpa and experiences please

Was it your first application? What are your experiences ? My daughter applied for class 2026 and has been rejected to 4 schools already.

I am a non-traditional student, I have over 15k veterinary (small animal/exotics) hours as I have worked in vet med as a tech for a long time. I didn't have any research experience. I had around 400 large animal hours, maybe less? I can't remember the exact calculation. I have a lot of volunteer experience within rescue (dogs and pigs) as a foster, foster coordinator and social media volunteer.

A lot of my friends/classmates had slightly lower GPA's 3.0-3.5 and way less veterinary hours. So my veterinary hours aren't something you should go off of. I have some classmates that only shadowed in clinics for a summer or two.

I was OOS and got pulled off the waitlist. Overall I had a 3.4, and last 45 a 3.67. Experience I had a lot between being a vet tech at an ER, and being an OR technician for a year. I also grew up with horses and pigs so had experience with large animals.

Hello… I need some more insight on where to rent so I don’t end up near the partying undergrads please. Any suggestions?

A lot of people live in the trailers near the CVM campus, there's old orchards and another one that has more updated trailers (I think).
