Is the Caribbean my only possible route now?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well obviously going through the SMP helped since they go more in depth with stuff than the MCAT requires. It's not like I didn't review the stuff I got wrong, more so that the KA videos presented things a different way that made me understand better. And no, I never did a FL.
Yeah OP, study methods definitely need work dude, taking a 7 hour test without practicing the stamina is difficult, I'm sure you lost a lot of points from that alone. I'm not saying to be harsh or anything, but if you're going to the Caribbean, you need to be way more efficient at learning than now. Best of luck.

I think this and SGU are the only ones that the physicians I worked with recommend to students who cant get into American schools. One of the physician's sons is actually at AUA. T

yes, thank you for that info.

I was also thinking about AUC and Ross. They are also what people say good Carib schools with good records.

On the other hand, if Goro mentioned it (AUA), it must be something too. @Goro rarely recommends Carib from what I have read on here.

Another physician I work with went to Ross. I want to be clear though, I AM IN NO WAY CONDONING GOING TO THE CARRIBEAN. A tip though from the doctor that went to ross for people considering there was "Don't go out and party like the majority of student do, those are the ones that don't make it in medicine in the Caribbean."

I do not believe he was recommending it, LOL. I believe he was giving a lesser of two evils if OP was still devout on picking one.

It’s not a real recommendation because he also ended it with good luck in your uber career. He’s saying, if you must do something stupid that is the least stupid of the stupid options

Remember to take physicians' words on the Caribbean schools with a heaping shovel of salt.

These are people who went through those programs in a medical education climate that is different than we see here today. Once upon a time, it used to be no impossible matter to go through a Caribbean school and match a competitive specialty. Today, obviously, that isn't the case. There have been at least thirty new US medical schools that have sprung up in the last two decades, and I think that's being extremely conservative.

Bottom line here: ignore what distant alumni have to say about the schools.
If you're going to listen to alumni about these schools, listen to current students or very recent alumni.

Maybe make a healthcare ridesharing service. Call it Doctr or something.

"Hi, I'm Dr. Isoval. I'm here to take you to the hospital."
"DOCTOR, PLEASE HELP. HE'S NOT BREATHING!!"
"Oh no no, you misunderstand, I went to a Caribbean school. I can only bring you to the hospital."

oh he isn't distant. He just finished residency started working within the past year. So I guess if you consider that distant than I would agree with you. But I do understand that he is only one physician.

Yes, there's a lot of noise here. Honest, realistic advice is fine, but some of these replies are over the top. You'd think by reading them that I have a 2.0 GPA, 490 MCAT, and failed every class in the SMP. I'm active on another forum, Airliners.net, and over there they also have people who think they should be running the airline industry. If you think I'm gonna give up and become a nurse just because of some big talker on SDN - you're sadly mistaken!

That’s right, OP. Don’t listen to the nay-sayers on SDN. They’re all meanie-heads who just want to keep you from achieving success. *inspects your wallet* I think it’s great that you took the MCAT six times, and your SMP performance was amazing. *checks your pulse* You’re clearly super special, so you should come study medicine at a beach resort in a third world country. That’s a wise decision that nobody has ever regretted.

Please come back to SDN in a few years and tell us how it all went.

on the one hand, it is great to give constructive criticism to the OP.

On the other hand, I feel like some are piling on without adding any value to the OP or any new info for everyone to learn from. We all can do better imho.

just saying.... 😎

Caribbean schools are FOR-PROFIT and they have to make money for share holders, this is how business works. Just remember that when you are making your decisions. But in all realness, stay in the US. It's worth the extra year or two to improve your application unless they are offering you a free ride in scholarships.

Why don't you just do an SMP w/ linkage? I thought about Caribb for awhile to, but man am I glad that I changed my mind and I'm currently sitting studying for our first exam in an SMP 🙂

Perhaps you should at least skim the thread before commenting. Posts 2 and 3:
Continue on with a post bacc. Get your GPAs to 3.0

Pursue an smp with linkage. Don’t go to the Caribbean.
...Another SMP? I already have debt from the one I finished, so I'm not really in a financial position to take more classes.
