Good question. I think I am, but you don't have to believe me lol. Its up to anyone if they want to believe me.

Fair enough. Just be careful with broad declarations. Great board scores and LORs open doors for DOs that may be open to MD students with mediocre versions of these. JMHO.

Everything about this place is a joke. Admin support is very hard to come by, but the faculty for the most part seem to be helpful to students. Clinical rotations are a giant gamble here as it is we are struggling to keep some of our sites. If you have op=tions to go to another DO school please chose that one and save yourelf many headaches.

Just an update about my last post to warn future applicants this school has gotten no where with clinical rotations. No new sites have been added and we do not have enough spots for students still. This place is the laughing stock of medical education in nyc

So what do the students do?

So what do the students do?

They send us all over the place with little regard to transportation, family conditions, or cost. The distance between a psych rotation and a family medicine rotation could be 3 hours of commute.

The other poster asserted that there are not enough rotation slots. Did s/he actually mean "not enough rotation slots close to or in NYC? Because a shortage of slots would mean some students have nothing to do, and if true, this would lead to a severe sanction by COCA....to the tune of "you cut seats until you have enough rotation slots for all of your students."

Sounds like a disgruntled Harlem student. Same poster, different account.

COCA will be watching the 3rd year clinical rotation slots like a hawk. Whatever fake news “pezeveng” and “osteopathicmedstudent” are shilling doesn’t make sense, like Goro suggested.

Ahh a touro shill above. I'm just trying to warn future students that the quality of our clinical education is trash. Very little consistency across the sites. Last year we lost trinitas so student had to terminate their lease or travel to a site that was 2 hrs away. The is poor leadership at the school

Met a couple of touro 4th years on the interview trail for residency this year. They told me if they could wait 10 years and “cure cancer” to reapply MD, they would do that instead of go to touro. N=2.

Well, I mean who wouldn't wait ten years to apply if it meant you'd get to cure cancer. Not really sure how going MD equals curing cancer though. Sounds like the kind of thing a Caribbean school would say.

I believe they were implying that if they weren’t competitive enough for MD they would spend 10 years trying to cure cancer to boost their app enough if it meant an MD acceptance.

Yup. same. Despite a >240 on Step 1 and research under my belt, still having a very tough time getting face time with PDs and getting Sub-Is in the field+location that I want. It is becoming ridiculously, unbelievably competitive out there.

Is it really that bad?

As a Touro NY student, I still think it’s really not that bad. I mean, look, it’s not great, and there are real problems. The “campus” is depressing, the admin are very difficult, and the curriculum can be clumsy and inefficient, especially second year. But other than that, lots of the problems that people complain about (like the “variable” quality of clinical education) are the same things I hear about most other DO schools and lots of MD schools also.

Maybe I’m just naive. Maybe I don’t have the right firsthand experience. I keep my head down and do my work - That’s it. But I’ve just personally never experienced anything all that awful about Touro NY.

Is it really that bad?

If the Harlem campus is the only option for you then go for it, otherwise, avoid. 4 years is a long time and the school you attend matters even more today, esp when it comes to matching in a particular field.

If you want to stay around the tri-state area then NYIT is great, then there is Rowan in NJ. Some of mine undergrad friends attended NYIT and are doing fellowships now.

Tfw people are actually ****ting on the school that I would really like to go to.

I say this as a Touro student. Go to TouroCOM NYC only as a last resort. Yesyou will end up with a degree but with many headaches along the way. Lately we have had safety issues on the 125th street with people harassing students in bgroad daylight. The clinical rotations are pretty bad. Most of the clinical rotations are at nonteaching hospitals. So its essentially shadowing at some hospitals. We have also have been having lots of faculty leave the school due to the toxic atmosphere created by downtown touro. Like I said go to Touro as a last resort. And the flipped classroom is pretty bad. Ask other upperclassmen\upperclasswomen they will echo my statements

Does the Middletown campus have the same problems?

Nope. Our clinical sites are getting better, we just added two more sites. 100% match for our inaugural class. Yes, some administrative stuff is annoying but they've actually been really receptive, especially after doing the town hall meetings.

COCA is visiting Harlem soon. It's not going to be pretty. It's amazing how the school only begins to care and send out surveys and ask for our input whenever we have accreditation people visiting.

are you guys only referring to touro ny? or does touro nevada and CA apply as well to the advice on here?

I remembered the first time I saw those posts concerning Touro NY was the moment before I got into Middletown.

It's kinda interesting to see ppl here still discussing the school's "good" or "bad" for so long, while I already matched into gas this year.

Honestly, there are always and will be problems existing, heard classmates liked and complained a lot of things, too. That's how life works, cannot satisfy everyone. At least I felt like my life at Middletown was overall good. Choose what you feel comfortable to your career. It's becoming meaningless to talk this further.

Well, at least when you graduate from TouroNY (which you will), you can say with pride, "Started from the bottom and now I'm here!"

Not sure about Harlem but ....

100% match rate for Middletown, inaugural class of 2018 (of eligible students, <10 were ineligible per the Dean due to not passing boards). I wouldn't be surprised if (all) other medical schools do the same kind of "statistics"

At least for EM, they have some great residencies at HUMC, St. Barnabas. Also saw some big names for the other residencies.

Also, our campus is better than Harlem's, and bigger, although it only occupies part of the old hospital (just google image it)

Recently fully COCA accredited (with our graduating class), with a Clinical Education commendation for rotations at ORMC. 4 requirements about clarifying job descriptions, polciies, GME results on promotional materials, mental health service availability for clinical years (though we have a really great social worker who is available during business hours), and recommendations about completing the research lab (plans and $$ budged), faculty development and a "faculty adequacy model" whatever that is.

Main issue with our school is research opportunities at this time, since we don't have on site research facilities (yet), but they are available, including at ORMC.

Overall, our school isn't the best but it definitely isn't the worst. It gets the job done and, honestly, what more can you ask for?

Middletown had great matches. Harlem matches were nothing extraordinary. We just lost our clinical dean and two of our better professors. We will be losing our NJ hospitals because gof Seton Hall. Avoid the dump of a place. Some funny business with insurance, the school is no loger accepting medicaid as insuance which defaults students to touro's insurance.

Let's forget for a moment about their board exam pass rates, match rates, the things they've done in the past, etc.

I called their admissions office several times with the same question, and each employee gives me a different answer. It seems like nobody knows wtf they're doing over there.

And as for their so-called campus...

Enough said. Is this a joke or what? I don't know how it is over there in Nevada, but at least Touro NY has already given me some very bad impressions. I applied to 2 Touros, and I'm seriously debating whether I should withdraw my applications or not at least for Touro NY. (and btw, their secondaries are $100 PER CAMPUS) Any thoughts?
I am surprised to see so many derogatory statements about Touro or any of their campuses. This is a very good medical school, and most of the individuals posting these statements would be lucky to attend this school. I was in the second graduating class at TUCOM. I had no problem passing my boards, or matching into the residency of my choice in radiology, which was one of the most competitive programs at the time. I did the fellowship of my choice, and I have never had any trouble getting a job. Since I graduated, Touro has grown by leaps and bounds, and has developed an impressive program. I really have nothing bad to say about my experience with TUCOM. Best of luck.
