This past cycle we had no interviews and heard if we were offered a seat on 2/15 through the portal around 9pm ET. Obviously no guarantee that the timeline will stay the same but hopefully it will give you somewhat of an idea🙂

Hi! I recently submitted my VMCAS application to ISU and I had a similar question regarding this. I have lots of international coursework which cannot be entered into the VMCAS transcript entry. Therefore, I chose "I am not matching any courses to this prerequisite". I confirmed with the admissions team if that's okay and they said yes because they manually evaluate your application to ensure that all prerequisites are met. I wouldn't worry about it! Once you submit the supplemental application, all updates will be posted there so if there are any issues, you can reach out to admissions. They are pretty good about replying to me right now. They do all portal updates one by one/manually so it takes a bit! I think last year they started showing up for people around mid Fall, but some people didn't get theirs for quite a while after that. It's a long wait till February and it doesn't update more than a couple times. The order that they go in doesn't really mean anything, so don't worry if others start getting theirs first.

VM1 here, I'm not from the South but did live there for a few years and have spent a lot of time there and it's pretty drastically different in culture if that's what you're asking about. Feel free to message me if you had any specific questions there that I might be able to help with.

I’m surprised there was no interview! Outside of the VMCAS and supplemental application, was there anything else to do for their process since there’s no interview?

I think it was around 2.95 but there wasn't really a clear answer. Did your GPA populate?

I was able to access last years application and the science GPA cut off was a 2.88. Which I believe is what they went off of.

I am curious, can you please explain what "access last year's application" means? Is there somewhere that a user can tell what last year's GPA cutoff was for any or all of the schools?

It is in my application portal from last year. I was able to access it. This is my second time applying to ISU.

Yes they will calculate them now and then they will recalculate it after they request transcripts later in the cycle.

If you pass the first academic round, they will ask you to submit your fall transcripts once they are ready.

that's odd, mine always got recalculated when I submitted fall transcripts

^^ yeah maybe this or that the classes on your fall transcript didn't account into your pre-req GPA and then somehow how it calculated didn't change your last 45?? idk 🤷‍♀️, I have just applied to ISU a few times and they always recalculated.

do you mean where does your initial GPA go when they "calculate it"? or where doe the recalculated go after they receive fall transcripts? they go in the same place, so they'll populate in the spot in the picture below and when they recalculate them after fall semester they will just update that spot.

editing to add that you might not have this section yet as iowa does a lot of things very manually so it can take them a while to upload GPAs for all the applicants (even well into december/january for some people last year).

I don’t have that yet, I’m going to assume that they have to manually update/calculate GPAs for each person. Either that or they just completely scrapped showing the GPAs for this year lol

I’m not having that issue currently, but about a week ago I was, and it was because I was somehow being directed to my portal from last year instead. If you applied last year, is that maybe what’s happening?

When looking into the advanced settings, it says that the security certificate expired a couple of days ago, so Google can't authorize how safe it is.

Yeah, that's the issue that I am having. Not sure how we can fix it or if it will go away on its own?

You can bypass the warning on Chrome and still access the site, just remember to be careful with your internet security 🙂

But will they let us know if there is a GPA cut off and how our application is progressing? Or does everyone wait until February when they release admissions decisions? Thanks - any insight to their application process is greatly appreciated!

They update the portal but not you directly. They do EVERYTHING by hand so they populate GPAs and then after fall semester grades they update them AGAIN also by hand. Your app will update as they do it via the portal but communications about acceptances/waitlists/rejections won’t come until closer to Feb

If you don’t meet the GPA cutoff you will be rejected before February. I was rejected in October 2 years in a row due to not meeting the GPA cutoff.

Mine says "In review" - I think this is because they review each application individually and do everything manually. So maybe if you applied later in the cycle, there hasn't been any updates or reviews yet?

Mine shows "In Review," but no GPA has been calculated yet, so I am assuming they just haven't gotten to the application yet since they have more time to go through looking at the applications since we won't know till Feb 14th, and there are no interviews.

Your GPAs might show up before but could also just show up after transcripts, mine took super long last year and it’s bc they do them all by hand. They don’t send any updates after fall transcripts about how you are progressing they just release all decisions in February

I was below the GPA requirement and asked if I could send in transcripts from fall and they said no because grades aren’t recalculated after calculation and then I was rejected.
