Wow, I guess that sure shows nerds like BadVibes & me how much cooler you are. Why don't you start threatening people with swirlies to finish the job?

undefinedHi there. I am new to this forum but this post really made me register and post this reply. I have known a few NYu grads now in my short carrier. I have met some at conventions & have some in my residency. I am sorry to say but they are incompetent in this field. They recieve very poor training academically & clinically. There's also some ethical problems to say the least. I would hope u would choose IU. Hope you take this well but I am sure you want to be a better, caring dentist who would like to stay as far away from lawsuits as possible. Despite all, I still do believe UOP provides the best dental education & prepares u for the real world....... well, good luck w/ your decision...

cheers..

I beg to differ. I could also say the same negatives about UOP grads...having worked the past 3 years with a few of them. That's my two cent.

ok i just talked to an old under grad friend who is attending NYU. i am sorry to hear that most of the rumors are true about NYU. i knw this person very well and i assure you the he/she is not the wild party type. he/she always took school very serious. i was told the his/her heart pounds everytime the gardes are out.

how many people have to tell these horror stories about NYU before people notice the truth?

So tell me this. How come my heart doesn't pound when I check grades? How come every time I say I'm gonna FAIL a test I always end up with a 75-85% grade on the exam.

Its is very hard to believe if "your friend" is serious about school and can't do good here. I mean for crying out loud, we only have One exam a week. Most schools have way more than that.

Make sure your friend is studying for the right class and maybe they will do better 😎

I'm not posting on this useless subject anymore.

For some reason I highly doubt tooth05 is a 4th year student at NYU.

Please look up an old thread of a student that got kicked out of my class. He even mentioned that it was his fault for not studying.

Yes ofcourse Broc, NYU is all peaches and cream and everyone can do well here. Right! And by the way it seems you are the one always trying to come and defend NYU on this subject. I dont see anyone from a different dental school trying to defend themselves when it comes to kicking out students. Because it does happen here and that is fact. They dont care about here, they just want their money. You cannot just put a blindfold on and pretend it does not happen here.

Your heart does not pound when exam results are posted because of the fact that you may not even be a student at NYU Dental as I have mentioned before. You and a few others on this site seem to defend NYU because either you do not want a bad name to come to your degree or you simply are not even a student (could be part of administration people trying to cover up what really does on here).

Although, this school has a horrible administration that only shows interest in you when you actually interview here, they do graduate decent dentists with plenty of clinical experience. But having that burden while your here of something going wrong and everything going down the tube is not worth it. It would be better to goto a state school where you get much less clinical experience and do a 1 yr residency after that. Atleast you are almost entirely certain that you will graduate. I dont know about you Broc, but people want that secure feeling in the back of their mind, that atleast they will graduate if something unfortunate ends up happening. Like I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I already have a job lined up after graduation, so I could careless about NYU. I will continue to counter your NYU support and simply state the truth about this school.

I hear what you guys wrote about NYU, and the fear of failing out. I think anyone who fears of failing out of dental school of any sort is simply not ready for dental school - that person lacks in confidence in himself, and this will have multitude of effects.

Now. I am confident about dental school, and there is little doubt in my mind that whatever school I enter, I would graduate. One year ago, I wouldn't feel the same way, but I decided to spend a year of my life boosting up on the hardest, and yet most relevant science courses I can find in a post-bac program.Everything I've heard from different sources regards dental school as difficult, challenging, and yet doable. Maybe I won't be the top ten per cent and then specialize or what.

In my opinion, for those who decided NYU solely because of the fear of dropping out is making a decision out of fear rather than an accurate internal assessment. How long do you want fear to push your cart around? How long do you want fear to be sitting on your shoulder? I do not like fear. It is not my friend. It is my enemy. Confidence, courage, and discipline are my friends.

Very good point. It seems as though Toothguy is so caught up with failing....you still haven't answered my question. I am guessing YOU are one of those students that has failed 3 courses and was on the verge of getting the boot. I really do think your bitterness stems from PERSONAL issues inside and outside of dental school. I agree with the above post in that some people get enrolled in dental school that may not be academically qualified or mature yet to endure the load. I suspect Toothguy falls into this category. Why are there fail out rumors all the time about NYU? Perhaps it's b/c NYU gives applicants second chances on borderline students. I am one of them. I, along w/ Yahee, am grateful for the second chance....we both took the bull by the horn and made it "failing out of dental school" a NON-ISSUE.

And before you start accusing me of being an NYU administrator, I am an administrator here. And I'm keeping an eye on you. I know who you are and you better finish your Complete upper denture requirement or else I will boot you out of here...

uhh, i think it's time to lay off the monomer. you have issues man...

I'm sorry to say, but I will not post on SDN anymore.

I just found out I am getting kicked out of NYU.

I failed a quiz last week and they said such lack of knowledge will not be tolerated here. I only missed one question about border molding on dentures. The answer was 140 degrees and I put 138 degrees for the water bath. Because of missing that question my GPA went from a 3.3 to a 1.9 and they require you to maintain a 2.0, so I got the boot. Good luck to you all.

Broc, your posts in this thread are going downhill fast. Unless this garbage stops going up, I don't think you'd be much missed if you *did* stop.

Unless you explain more about your situation, I think your exaggerating your story. There is no way that by missing one question, then you get kicked out. It is usually a cumulation of various causes.

i think that Broc feels everyone has something against NYU because they attend a different school.
all everyone wants is the truth so that people could make better decisions on which school to attend.

Hello,

I just got accepted to IU however I needed some advice.......I love IU's program (Problem based learning) but I also got into NYU. I know, I know.....these are two completely different schools. NYU seems they have better clinics and more chair time. Plus it is NEW YORK for crying out loud. I know a lot of graduates from NYU. They all say it is okay. Somebody help!!!!
There's no way I would pay to have nursing in any way shape or form on my degree.

sheesh, everyone on this forum is bashing each other. You are going to be dentists, show a little respect! Why I am writing, simply, is neither to pick at NYU nor to praise it. I recently withdrew from the school - and no, I was not "failing out", I simply chose to pursue a career that I felt was more suited to my interests and skills (my classwork was okay, dental labwork not okay - biology was my thing, dentistry not so much). I will remain neutral on this forum, but if anyone wants to hear my HONEST opinions on experiences I've had in my 1.5 years at the school, feel free to PM me.

former NYUCDer '07
(ps - good luck broc! our class is the best 🙂 )

NYC DentGrl. How come you decided to withrdrew?

NYCDentGrl,
Are you pursuing a different career? Sorry to hear you withdrew after 1.5yrs!

Wow, thats ALOT of money that NYCDentGrl will be paying back. If you decided to withdraw from NYUCD all of a sudden, why are you a new member signed up on SDN Dental Forums? Seems a little odd. Could Broc be recruiting fan support  Anyways good luck to you NYCDentGrl and believe me, you didn't miss out on much by not graduating from here.

she signed up back in aug...look at her profile

Good luck to you NYCDentGrl!!!

For some reason I do not think toothguy05 is a 4th year here. So here is a question for you. Graduating seniors usually have an event that is coming up shortly, what was it called in the past and what is it called this year?

Interesting, only 8 posts since August. mmmph?
Man, if I get in Loma Linda, I'll choose that over NYU. I don't think I want the NYC environment. Maybe couple years as a resident would be nice.

Look here are my thoughts....Every dental school has it's problems. There is going to be something any where that you go that you don't like. Now it sounds like NYU has some major issues right now, but all schools have there own. Personaly I hate PBL. It is a waste of my life. I spend most of my time looking for information rather than learning it, but it does give you a chance to get to know a lot of other people in your class better and helps you with your reasoning and communication skills. Dental school is what you make of it just as undergrad is. If you are torn betwen two schools that you believe would give you a good education I would choose the cheaper one. It will make your life a lot less stressful now and especially when you get out. Good luck in making choice, maybe i'll see you IU next year.
