I thought it would be best to create a thread specifically for the scores. I'll start:

Verbal Ability: 405 60
Biology: 420 80
Reading: 412 69
Math: 427 87
Chemistry: 467 99
Composite: 426 90

Writing 3

I can't imagine what my score would've been had I done better in the English sections. By the way I'm in Atlanta, Georgia for those of you wondering.

We see more replies of support with suggestions to improve the score as opposed to crap like "go apply to schools in the Caribbean".
Ha! Yeah, I got a low-ish score (61%) and I was thinking who's gonna accept me with THAT? So far, everyone's been supportive though. 🙂

Verbal 393 - 40%
Biology 408 - 65%
Reading comp 396 - 43%
Quant 399 -52%
Chemistry -73%
Composite 402 - 55%

I will first off tell you guys that I am not stupid. haha. I know a 55% composite blows compared to you all, but it was my first time taking it. I really do not know how I should go about studying for it. I am honestly very discouraged due to this score. I havnt finished my pre-req's so thats one thing, but honestly. i have a pretty solid GPA, IMO. Its 3.7 with A's in all my science classes. (My school is not an easy one, btw) I dont know whether I should take more classes in order to boost my score or what. I will put in as much time as necessary, but I would like to know the most efficient way possible. I guess there is always june? haha...

Verbal 479 99
Biology 438 93
Read. Comp. 434 92
Math 453 97
Chemistry 451 97
Composite 451 99

This was my first time taking the test. I didn't think I had done real well on the math and chemistry because I was really rushed so I was very surprised by the scores. I am probably older than most here (graduated from college in '86 and grad school in '89) so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm also going through a divorce and suddenly went deaf in December so I had a lot going on. I found a lot of information on this board that helped me in studying. I also used CDs that reviewed chemistry and biology (don't remember name but bought on Amazon). These helped a lot because I could listen to them in the car.

Now I have to get everything else in order. Good luck to everyone!

Congrats, BioPharm -You kicked a** and took names it seems!! Most people don't score that well even with nothing else going on in their lives 🙂 Will you be applying for the 2008 cycle? Good luck to you, too.

Congratulations!........Really impressive
I am just curious why do you want to become a pharmacist right now? Is it because graduate school did not provide a job you with a decent income? and did you graduate with a science MS or PhD or was it in another field?
Last thing i would like to ask you is what branch of pharmacy do you want to pursue?
Best of luck in everything.

do pharm schools look at where you took your prereq courses? let's say i got a undergrad degree with bio at a top 20 school in a nation, so i end up with like a 2.8. i know that i need to work on that; my last 60 units were like 3.0. my pcat composite is 83. in terms of pharm exp, i am working a pharm clerk right now, and i just got my pharm tech license.

any recommendations in any luck of getting in to a pharm school?

Hmmmm. If you presented to me like that, I would think you were making excuses for your performance. Let's be real here- if you got accepted to "...a top 20 school...," then obviously you're capable of doing the work. I think you're better off saying how you, yourself fell short of your own expectations, rather than trying to pass it off onto the school or the other students or the professors or whatever. It might help if you could give some concrete examples of what you're doing to improve on your questionable academic past (because it will raise questions). Put the responsibility and the focus on you, not on others. It's about you.

Also, I don't think adcoms want to hear that your other school was so much better than theirs, so much harder, so much a "...top 20 school." ANY school can be a "...top 20 school," depending on what the criteria are for ranking.

Sorry I'm so slow in responding. You ask some good questions. My graduate degree is an MS in Molecular Biology. I loved the field but didn't want to spend the rest of my life (so to speak) working in a lab. I married someone in the military and left my research job when he got transferred. For several years, I worked in product development, tech support, sales, and training for a scientific instrumention and reagents company. I did a lot of field work so there was lots of travel (about 80% of the time). I was able to continue work with the company through two military moves. After I had my first child, I worked part-time, mostly from home. I left the company when we moved again. Even though I was busy being a stay-at-home mom, I knew I wanted to go back into the work force. During the move when I left work, I met a clinical pharmacist. We spoke at length about her job and I started thinking that pharmacy might be where I belonged (I know...sounds corny). I've now been through another move and since getting here, I've had several major life changes (mentioned in my previous post). Some of the reasons I am pursuing the pharmacy degree now are: I need to be able to support myself and my kids; I want some flexibility in my career; and I have a real passion for biological systems and working to understand how everything fits together. I've taken some classes I never took as an undergrad (A&P for example) and am retaking others since it's been a long time. I am really excited about everything I'm learning. I'm even liking organic chemistry much better than I did twenty years ago! (although I just started the class so maybe that will change).

I am not sure yet what branch of pharmacy I want to pursue. I've just started volunteering at a small community pharmacy and am working on getting a pharm tech certificate. I've got some connections to part-time pharm tech positions in local hospitals so hope to do that starting this summer.

Any suggestions or comments? Thanks for reading my long reply.

Congrats on your PCAT scores. They will go a long way to getting you into Pharm school. I have also recently returned to school after many years. It takes work but I just wanted to let you know it can be done. I will be P1 this fall.

Good luck!!
