July 13 MCAT Score DELAY

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hmm.. interesting. July 13 'ers, at what score would you actually jump up and down upon receiving your results?

For me jumping is 30-34
Jumping then fainting 35-39
Quitting my job to travel Europe is 40+
Quitting my job to join the circus is <25

So if the delay is because scores are not ready, i can imagine things will only get worse. There have been 4 test dates in the past week and a half...

Yeah, I've been wondering myself.. I noticed that June and July were pretty much void of testing dates, but August is ripe with them. I mean, doesn't it make more sense, that throughout the summer, like in June and July, to offer an increasing amount of testing dates considering that deadlines are approaching? I mean, considering all the dates in August alone, the AAMC is screwed trying to get them all back if they're having problems with two testing sessions on one date alone.

 I like that list! Okay so what do you do from 26-29??? drink? not that I am encouraging that kind of behavior

Haha, I was thinking about drinking during the exam, like for every right answer I thought I got, just take a little sip from my flask stored in my pocket... lol, j/k.

But, about the scores: someone told me (in fact, I probably read it on here!) that there was supposedly a correlation between ACT scores and MCAT scores. Something like two points lower or higher than the ACT would be the MCAT. Not that I believe that crap, but I think I got a 25 or something on my ACT. lol

I'm fairly confident that I wont come near that range... or so I hope😀 . High school flat-out sucks

Do a search on that but I think it was MCAT score and USMLE score correlation.

First time I took the ACTs, I got a 26 and in the April MCATs (1st time) I scored a 27. Second time I took the ACTs I got a 30... hmmm July 13 MCATs? 😀

I think you are referring to VR and USMLE correlation.

"The Biological Sciences section most directly correlates to success on the USMLE Step 1 exam, with a correlation coefficient of .553 vs .491 for Physical Sciences and .397 for Verbal Reasoning" This correlation seems to make more sense since the USMLE tests your understanding of concepts of basic science after finishing 2nd year. Thus, a stronger correlation between PS & BS and USMLE Step 1 rather than between VR and USMLE Step 1.

However,
RELATIONSHIPS OF READING, MCAT, AND USMLE STEP 1 TEST RESULTS FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS by PATRICIA A. HAUGHT and RICHARD T. WALLS (2004) shows that VR has the strongest correlation with the USMLE step 1. They suggest that "Total and MCAT verbal reasoning scores undoubtedly tap into Spearman’s “g” factor of intelligence. Perhaps students who have greater verbal ability should be admitted and retained, and the N-D Vocabulary score seems to be a useful addition to the screening battery and application process."

Find one hypothesis and another pops up to refute it. I have heard both VR and BS/PS being correlated with USMLE scores, but never the ACT.

Has anyone checked to see if the scores have been released yet? I don't really want to look.

Back in my days we had to wait TWO months for the scores to be released...not to mention that I had to walk 5 miles in the snow just to get to my test site. Barefoot.

[Sorry, I couldn't resist]

has anyone spoken to AAMC today...anyone get any idea when they may be released...i think im going to go insane before i actually set foot in med school.... argh

Hey... I think something may be happening, because I just got two secondary emails within 3 minutes. Still no scores though on the website though.

My MCAT was +3 from my ACT... I think most people would be happy if their MCAT was +/- 3 from ACT.

I took the ACT close to 15 years ago so I think that the scoring is different now so -3 ACT would be terrible for my MCAT score.

TM

I'd be happy if my actual score is within my practice exam scores range, ecstatic if it is higher, and disappointed if it was lower... pretty straight forward 😛

Pretty sure the ACT is still out of 36...

So I scored a 30 on my ACT so a 27 on my MCAT would be a huge disappointment for me personally as that was my very first MCAT score 10 years ago. But a 33 and I'm jumping as stated above. So the +/-3 ACT theory is not something that I would put too much store in.

TM

I am getting to the point where I just don't care anymore. I will be happy if I am within the range of my practice tests as well, bummed if its lower, and ecstatic if its higher. Everyone has their own personal goals on this matter, and I think out of respect for everyone involved, its probably best not to discuss individual scores and goals, because everyone is different. Yet I hope everyone makes a score within their target range - esp after we have endured this cr@p!

Does anyone even care anymore?

I am starting not to anymore, but I just want to find out as I can't focus on anything! I have the darn GRE next Saturday, and then classes start the following Monday, so it's impossible to try and get anything accomplished waiting for the MCAT to see how badly I did.

I've been trying to read a leisure book, but I can't manage to focus. 🙁

Yeah I wouldn't rely on the ACT too much. I know someone with a 30 ACT and 1300 SAT who got a 40 on the MCAT. I also know someone with a 36 ACT and 1600 SAT (took them in 10th grade) with a 40 on the MCAT... soo yeah.. haha.. don't rely on SAT/ACT much.

Being "smart" helps.. but it the end, hard work trumps pure intelligence

(also I don't know why the guy took the ACT after getting a 1600 SAT.. damn overachievers 😛)

I am quite convinced that the scores will be up by 5pm, in which case we have 25 mins until all is over

I hope so. I haven't been able to eat all day, I've been so nervous. I'm in-between being really hungry and throwing up...

haha i got a 30 ACT and 1300 SAT... maybe I'll get a 40...

:luck:

There was actually a poster from the June admin I think...

Got like a low 30 or something in May.. took it again in June and got a 41? I think.. improved their Verbal from 8 --> 14.. in a month

so are the scores really up? I don't want to check just yet b/c I want to wait til my gf comes home so I can look with her 😀 let me know!

Are they up for real?! I don't want to check either yet. I would hate to start weeping softly in the corner at work.

You're a prick. Some people won't get close to a 34 on this damn test and studied just as hard as you did. Have some sensitivity.

I am not trying to put other people down. I am just sincerely disappointed. Just like everybody else who didn't do as well as they expected. Have some sensitivity to that. I have to apply to MD/PhD programs, which needs a much higher MCAT score. And now I may have to retake it. I think I am entitled to cry about that.

no way.. don't retake. I know people who've gotten into top 20 MD/Phd with 32 MCATs

Waaaaaa I only scored a 34, waaaaaaa. Suck it up. There are better ways to put it than how you did.

And TM, there are better ways to reply than how you did.

I apologize if I upset anyone. Really, I do. Believe me, I am just as upset as anybody who didn't get the score they wanted. Amid tears and confusion, certain things may not have come out correctly the way I meant it. And I am sorry for that.

No, I am not whining. just upset, and a little confused about what I should do. That's all.
