I know that taking (and doing well on) the USMLE can only help, but at how much of a disadvantage (if any) would I be for ACGME programs if I were to just take the COMLEX and do very well on it?
I have heard that the COMLEX is changing so that it scores like the USMLE to do away with the confusion of comparing the #s, is this true?? I think it was with adding a 2 digit score to the comlex or something. 😕

My personal theory to whether or not to take both is this: If you are very certain that you will do well on the USMLE then go ahead and take it. If you think you will get a mediocre score or score at or below the mean, then I would not take it. Due to the increased number of osteopathic students applying to and being accepted at MD institutions the COMLEX scores are becoming easier to interpret by PD's.
At my school, it seemed like we had a lot of students take step I of the USMLE even though they were not the greatest of students and did not have the highest chances of scoring well on either test. Personally, I would rather have just one bad-to-average score instead of two and come back with a much better step II. That way hopefully the PD would think I just had a bad day instead of having two scores back each other up to confirm I just didn't study enough.
My personal experience- USMLE-247 COMLEX-670something (98%)
Hope this overanalyzing helps.
