What would really happen, in real life, if a resident or intern blatantly disobeyed his/her attending? I was watching ER last night, and believe me I'm not one of those idiots that think watching ER is an acceptable subsitute for medical school, it just made me think of this, and it seems like the residents and even the interns disregard what their attendings tell them to actually do quite a bit. Just from my observations of the ER I work in, I would guess it would not go over so well and be resolved over a cup of coffee after the shift ended. So....what would really happen?

Depending on the degree and frequency of disobedience, they'd likely get a warning at first, and then fired if it recurred.
