It's still under determination when that'll happen. All the renovation work has been complete (as per the finishing f the admin building) but the breaking ground for new buildings hasn't had a set date to it just yet.

The gym in the academic center is hardly packed hahaha. Not a good sign.

Yeah, Texas! That's actually the issue. I don't know if I'll be able to make the trip due to costs, time off work, etc. If I was nearby, I'd definitely go. I'll most likely go alone if I do. My family seems more interested in attending the white coat ceremony. I read something about tickets for this, though. Where would I get them?

The building was open today even though they were making some finishing touches. It looks absolutely stunning!

Nice place to sit around and chat. Seems like it would get a little too busy for serious studying though.

Coffee shop, conference rooms, study rooms, quiet rooms, team based learning labs that I believe will be implemented the coming years. The balcony will have a lot of study furniture to study outside and have a great view downtown.

Don't quote me but I think around March based on last year's thread. And it didn't look like the school held hands but I could totally be wrong. @AlteredScale ?

You should fill out FAFSA if you have not already. I believe the Fin Aid department will contact you after and will continue communications with you following that, in the next few months fasho.

With around 60% of the class taking it and a 2% fail rate which is a lot better than national. KCU is doing good.
 
Dr. Celty or alteredscale is there any rules about who can take the usmle at KCU? And what about the comlex do you have to score over a certain amount on a practice comlex before you're allowed to take the real deal?

I don't know of any rules like that. However, you should prolly be passing the USMLE comfortably before taking it. If you fail, that's pretty much a death sentence for any competitive specialty.
 
Recently submitted my deposit and am SUPER EXCITED to be headed to Kansas City!

But being from Sunny San Diego, how are the winters and summers in Kansas City?

I like to think of KC as sightly schizophrenic in regards to weather. Temperatures fluctuate all over the place. Winter days can be near zero (or at least feel that way with wind chill) one day then jump to 50 or more the next. There are no major bodies of water to insulate like you have in SD. (My mom was a "Navy Brat" and lived in SD for years when she was younger).

Most years we don't get a great deal of snow, but this is not guaranteed and snow can happen. Ice tends to be more of an issue and, since KC can be on the "hilly" side, creates more problems for drivers.

I grew up near Chicago, so for me the winter is no big deal. I don't even own a heavy coat because it never gets below jacket weather for me.

Summers, also because of no water insulation, can get extremely hot and reach ~110 and there have been stretches where it's 90+ for days on end. There have been more mild summers, though, where the temp never really goes above 100 and only rarely above 90. So it's never easy to *know* what lies in store.

Does anyone know the commute time from Overland Park?

Do you like living there? It seems like a good place to be for families. Is the commute rough with the schedule for classes?

I love living here. It's really safe and everything is really close (except campus). The commute isn't bad, but this is all relative. Coming from San Diego where traffic is horrid and it took me almost an hour to get to work, the traffic and drives here are a joke. However, if you came from somewhere where you never had traffic, I guess you could say there is a tiny bit in the mornings.

I don't go to class, so commuting in the morning isn't a problem for me. I go to school around noon when traffic is nonexistent.
 
@SynapticDoctah, where in Overland Park do you live? Do you know families that live there and come to class everyday? I'm not sure how many lectures I'll need to attend, but Overland park looks really nice--i'm only worried about the distance.
 
Anybody have any opinions about the landings at River Market?

Overland Park is wonderful. Well worth the slight commute. I have lived here for over 7 years now and it's definitely a great place for anyone, but certainly for families. OP is quite large, but if you are worried about the commute I would choose an area close to I-35 so you can hop right on.

I live on 135th Street (south OP). I don't really know of any families around this area from KCU, but I do know of at least two classmates that live right next to me that go to class everyday.

Honestly, it's not that far. Again, to me a 30 minute commute is short from what I am used to so I don't know what to tell you.

Guess I've been spoiled my entire life with short commutes.

Wehlp, I've definitely been spoiled by my 5 min walking commute to work.
 
Does anyone know how flexible CT is with the move in date that I write down on the request form?

I know that the previous posts said that orientation starts on 7/25, so would moving in on the 23rd be too late?

You can decide the date and they fill apartments based on moving in date. I moved in the Saturday night before orientation starting on Monday and it worked out well. I was able to put together my apt during that week 🙂

If you decide on a different date than what you put down, just contact CT, they're pretty flexible. I ended up setting a final date months after I submitted my application lol.
 
Current students: Is there a soccer club/group on campus that play (recreational or competitive) regularly?
 
So... we will be the 100th class to enter/graduate?
 
Is anyone aware of any possibility of deferred admission? I fully intend on matriculating, but wasn't sure if this was even an option.
