I placed my $2K deposit down last week and unless I become completely blown away by COMP (unlikely).

I interviewed at COMP. It was the only school that was comparable to KCUMB in facilities, curriculum and student enthusiasm about the program.
Pomona is a total dump. I thought it wouldn't be...but I got out of the car and (maybe it was the day) but the whoel place smelled like manure.

Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your assessment and wishing me good luck. I know a little about Pomona; I've been around the area before. I used to live in SoCal, but a little further north relative to the Pomona area. And you are correct...a lot of places around that area seem to smell like manure. I always wondered why that was. 😕

Oh well, truthfully, I'm really wanting to attend KCUMB; they completely blew me away at the interview. I liked everything I saw on paper before the interview, but never expected to love it as much as I did when I was actually there. I just filed my FAFSA and listed only KCUMB.

However, since everything is already set up for me to goto my interview at COMP, I thought I might as well go and check it out, to ameliorate any remaining doubts and to reaffirm my choice. It's hard to compare without actually checking out the school. 🙂

In interviewed at 7 schools, and felt-- by far-- the best at this one.

I have to agree, I have had 6 interviews so far and KCUMB was by far in its own league. DMU was the only school that I felt was comparable. We are really fortunate to have this opportunity.

We are really fortunate to have this opportunity.

I agree Harvey! I first visited KCUMB a couple of years ago for an open house. I have been hooked ever since!

Sounds like we're going to have a great class! I was reading back through the previous posts - I love to ski (on water and snow), run, bike - pretty much anything outdoors - too! In case anyone is going to be in the KC area this summer....Table Rock Lake is about 3-4 hours away, and is the best in the area for water skiing/camping in my opinion! Most people around here (KC that is) prefer Lake of the Ozarks. Its a great party lake but Table Rock is better for skiing since its not as crowded. If you have any questions or need other suggestions, feel free to PM me!

Counting down the days already..... 🙂

Does anyone know about the flyfishing opportunities near KC or are the rivers just too flat? Maybe I should take up catfish fishing instead.

With each of the places I interviewed at, they just kept getting better than the previous. First was COMP, nice but too laid back for me. Next was DMU and Touro-NV. I could see myself at any of these schools; it's just the little things that make the difference.

I have to agree. I just got back from my CCOM interview today, and I feel that KCUMB is a stronger program. I really wasn't that impressed with CCOM. Maybe I am a little to confident, but I would put KCUMB's Genesis curriculum up with any program in the country, MD or DO. I think that KCUMB runs a great program. CCOM doesn't even record their lectures or give copies of the power point slides. I felt that was a little unusual. I think someone has this in their avatar, but it would be great if we made t-shirts with, "KC here we KCUMB!" 👍

Edit: Found it, spicedmanna is the one that has it.

Great Idea; I second that! (see preliminary design below) 😀

Those look great.👍 Anyway to get rid of that red on the sleeve and around the collar? How much would it cost to print a shirt like that if we got 25-30 people who were interested?

I'll see if I can make it a plain white tee. I'll price it and write back. 😀

Sweet. Instead of the red, could you try like an orange color to match the front school symbol. The red clashes too much for my eyes.

So, I chose a 100% cotton jersey tee, althletic fit; at 30 pieces, it will be $22.30 per shirt. The shirt is supposed to be white with orange trim; I can also make it plain white, without trim. It is attached below. PM me with any suggestions and/or changes. If you are interested in ordering it, let me know a count of size. 😀

Spicedmanna those are great!! 👍

Yeah the orange version looks much better.👍 👍 If it isn't too much of a hassle I would like to see what it would look like with just white trim?

Just copy and paste the listed names and add the size and quantity that you want:

spicedmanna another recommendation, could you just look and see what it would look like with a black tee and white lettering? If it looks decent maybe that is something we should consider as well? And then finally below the "KC here we KCUMB" could you add Class of 2011 in small print. Maybe something like

KC here we KCUMB
- Class of 2011

 I feel like I'm running a shirt design factory! It's fun, though. If nothing, it's really making feel like I'm really going to be part of this awesome class. 😎

Anyway, here it is, in black, with two alternative shirt backs, as requested. I'm also attaching a white shirt version for contrast. Which one do you guys like the best, the black or white shirt? And which back design?

EDIT: I had to use a beige background for the front logo on the black shirt because the ghosting was too significant; it looks a little blocky, but it's the best that I can do given the graphics file that I had to work with. The white shirt with orange trim should look okay with the beige background removed from the graphic. I don't know; let me know what you think. 😉

EDIT2: I just discovered that we cannot use the school's logo without permission. If we have sufficient interest, we can contact the school to see if it will be okay to make the shirt and for the necessary procedures.

Your awesome. It is gonna be a hard decision between the white and black, but I really like the "Class of 2011" addition. I guess wait and see what the others have to say. Spice, which design do you prefer?

Oh, and the white tee with orange trim also has "class of 2011" it's just in the front underneath the logo.

Yeah I saw that. For some reason I prefer it under the saying in the back. Just looks a little better IMO.

I prefer the back design 1. As to which color? I'm not sure. I'm partial to black tee shirts. I changed the design of the black tee shirt due to the complexity of the front logo, so it's somewhat less appealing than before, however. At the end of the day, I think the white tee shirt with orange trim looks cooler. Let's see what others think. Too bad we can't place a poll inside a thread.

don't want to bust your bubble...but you need to get the school's permission b/f you use their logo...you can get in some big trouble if you don't...i think the shirt is great, just don't want to get anyone started off at school on the wrong foot.

Absolutely; thank you. My colleagues and I don't want to get into any kind of legal trouble and would certainly want to go through the proper channels. It was not my intention (nor that of my colleagues) to violate any provisions set forth, nor did I have any knowledge that I would. Please accept my humble apology. If we do decide to actually produce the shirt, and it is okay to do so, we will make absolutely sure to contact LeeAnn Carlton to ensure that the proper steps are taken and that our steps are in complete alignment with that of the school. We will follow the recommendations of the school. Thank you, again, for your kind and good advice. 🙂 👍

No worries...No apologies needed...just wanted to give you a heads up...i am not here to turn anyone in..just to be helpful and answer questions 🙂...i am actually quite impressed by the clever little shirt 😀

Thanks for the heads up and appreciation. 🙂 Someone mentioned the theme, and I was just sort of messing around. 😳 Things spiraled from there. Anyway, I'm very glad you told us about the legal implications. We could have made a misstep without it!

Yeah, I was going to mention that, lol. And quite frankly I cant imagine them giving us permission to use their prestigious logo for such a scandalous endeavour, lol.

HOWEVER, if they are in an especially good mood that day and grant us permission, I really like the white with orange trim and Back #2. But if we do go with Back #1, can we at least change the word line up to

KC
Here we
KCUMB

Picky, I know, but I figured it was worth a shot.

 Yeah, I'm essentially on the same wavelength. Right now, it's just fun to stay with messing around. I don't think we should pursue it unless we can get around 25 orders minimum. Then there's the problem of how we are going to collect the money...

FWIW, if this turns out to be more than just an imaginary endeavor; here's how I figure it:

Black shirt
15 pieces @ $27.23 each
20 pieces @ $22.90 each
25 pieces @ $16.62 each

White shirt with orange trim
15 pieces @ $33.35 each
20 pieces @ $29.85 each
25 pieces @ $22.58 each

The black shirt costs less to produce.

If we do decide on back 1, I think your request can be arranged, if everyone else agrees, too.

So you guys really don't think they will grant us the use of the school's logo?

I'm willing to pursue it if we can get a good amount of interest. Wouldn't hurt, to ask, I wouldn't think.

Personally I don't see a problem. We aren't selling the shirts to make a profit. If we were doing that I would see an issue. I remember in undergrad for our pre-med club we used our university's logo without anyone ever brining up an issue. I don't see a huge issue with this since we have matriculated (will be students) at KCUMB.

Hmm... You are right, this a strictly not-for-profit venture, but one of class spirit (we are going to have an awesome class). Good to know that you've witnessed a successful venture previously. That does inspire confidence in me. I propose that we try to get a minimum of 25 orders (20 for the black shirt, because it's cheaper), to make sure the cost is reasonable per person, and then proceed to LeeAnn Carlton with our plan. It's not that much money, though, so I'm willing to pay a little more for this shirt. I thought about it and would be willing, if everyone who wants a shirt is, too, to go forward at whatever number of orders we end up having, if we fall a little short.

spice, do you have a paypal account? If we get approval and reach the minimum number, we could just paypal you the amount for our shirts.

Here is a proposal of a letter requesting permission to use the school's logo for our t-shirt. PM your real name if you want to co-sign it with me. Suggestions, comments, and corrections welcome.

Dear Ms. Carlton,

A few incoming students of the class of 2011 have been tossing around the idea around of making a t-shirt commemorating and celebrating our matriculation to KCUMB prior to the start of classes. We are very excited to attend KCUMB and feel very fortunate to be part of this great tradition.

We are writing to seek your approval to use the school's logo on our t-shirt and to seek your recommendations, if any, on how to proceed. You have our assurance that the shirts will be for our own use and not sold for any profit. Please find attached pictures of the proposed t-shirts.

Thank you for your consideration of our creative endeavor.

Sincerely,

<me and whomever wants to co-sign with me>

I LOVE FISHING. I'm new to the site, but I plan on attending KCUMB this fall, for the class of 2011. I'll be moving to Kansas City from Michigan, and look forward to fishing for some of the local favorites.

I would imagine there would be flyfishing opportunities in the area for bluegill (bream), largemouth and smallmouth bass, and possibly carp all within a short drive of Kansas City. These opportunities would present themselves on the Missouri River, and also on the lakes/reservoirs in the region. Bluesprings Lake, Lake Jacomo, and Longview Lake are all within 20 miles of KCUMB. I'm sure that an afternoon of scouting would provide you with more than a few areas to wet a fly.

Hello Everyone!
I will also be attending KCUMB in the Fall! I am very much looking forward to it! I was wondering where everyone was planning on living....I will be living in the River Market area, and will be moving at the end of June beginning of July. I look forward to meeting all of you! And I think the shirt idea is great! I personally like the black shirt the best....See you all soon.....

It's awesome that you guys are so excited. I definitely think you should be. I love it here, and if you have any questions, please let me know.

As far as choosing a school, the campus visit solidified my decision. The faculty and staff were super nice (and they are awesome when you're a student--it's not a show), and the students had nothing but good things to say about it when we were there.

As I'm halfway through my first year, I will tell you that they take care of you at KCUMB and make sure you have every resource you need to succeed. Make no mistake, you have to work for everything you get, but even with the long nights and the exhausting exam weeks, there's nowhere else I'd rather be trained as a doc.

As far as rotations and all that go, it just depends on what you want to do. There's a lot of family practice and internal med around here, but from the 2nd and 3rd year students I've talked to, they are either here for their families or sig. others or in the MA program here. I don't know if that helps or not.
